Hey, You Should Watch Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger
Well hello friends, non-friends and future friends! It’s your good pal Rad here to go on another run on about how you should probably watch a show I like a lot.
Now, before, I’ve gone on about how you should kinda just broadly watch Kamen Rider. Like in general you should watch Kamen Rider that’s still a thing you should do. TODAY, on the other hand, I’m tellin you that you should watch a Super Sentai series! A particular one! Not just in general but also yes in general.
Anyways, I’m tellin you to watch…
…Say, person I may or may not know… Do you like pirates? Maybe super heroes? Do you possibly like One Piece at all? Did you say yes to all those things or at least the first two? WELL THEN YOU’RE IN LUCK!
Gokaiger happens to be about both those things! (and the crew, at least to me, reminds me a ton of the straw hats but we’ll leave that aside for now.)
So what is it actually about? What’s the story here Rad? Well, it’s a group of space pirates, the titular Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger, coming to earth to gather the 34 “Great Powers”, the powers of all the Super Sentai teams that came before them, which is said to unlock a certain thing when gathered together.
The team, at the very start, is made up of these 5 people!
Captain Marvelous/Gokai Red
The captain of the Gokaiger, almost always smugly smiling and cocky guy in general! He sometimes acts first before thinking, and will do whatever he pleases, regardless of what would ACTUALLY be the best idea, but still does the right thing through his bullheadedness. Also his name is fucking CAPTAIN MARVELOUS. He doesn’t have any other name! HE’S JUST FUCKIN MARVELOUS.
Like seriously in most fights, even when he’s losing he’s smiling and throwing himself around and he’s just a fucking big badass.
HE’S GREAT.
Best captain.
Joe, the serious, mostly quiet swordsman, and first mate of the crew. With a past where he did some bad shit for some bad peeps, he’s not a person to mess with for sure! His main fighting style is dual wielding swords.
Myself, I was always waiting for him to use three swords… oh well
This guy’s pretty serious but some of the best parts were when he was getting goofed on or joined in on the goofiness, usually against his will.
Luka, the master thief of the crew, who’s #1 interest is getting more money! She, like Joe, is the best at using two swords, but she strongest power comes combining them to become a weird sword…blade…thing like the thing klingons use to duel with or somethin? Either way it’s fuckin cool.
I want to believe she had money signs in her eyes at some point but that just might be memory bias.
Don Dogoier/Hakase/Gokai Green

Okay so Hakase is my second favorite character in Gokaiger. He’s such an interesting character and so fun to watch just do anything. He’s the crews mechanic and cook and a huge weirdo who usually fights indirectly, using a bizarre fighting style of just kinda flailing about and hoping it works. It usually does. He also uses two pistols to do rapid shots on the poor saps fighting him. He may be a goof but he’s a goof that’ll kick your ass.
Also when he transforms he does that weird hand whip thing meanwhile everyone else is doing cool poses and shit.
He’s a soft boy please don’t be mean to him.
Ahim de Famille/Gokai Pink
Prim proper, Ahim, former princess of a far off planet is now the crews gunner, loyal to Marvelous who took her in after her kingdom was destroyed, she does the same thing as Luka and is able to combine their weapons (at this point I should stress each one of them has a sword and a gun but they swap them out all the time in the middle of fights) into a double barreled pistol…thing? It’s a bit weird looking because it’s kinda in a V shape?
After a bit, we get my favorite character of the team –!!
This fuckin nerd. This guy joins the team as an inexplicable Super Sentai fan, nerding out whenever they meet a member of the older teams, being a complete buff on everything there is to know about them and their teams! He uses a long staff, axe… gun thing… as his weapon. trust me it’s cool. He’s just a joy and a really loving portrayal of older toku fans! He’s fun!
she’s a robot parrot and the crew’s navigator! She causes a lot of trouble for such a small robot tho.
the main gimmick of the series is that they transform into every other Super Sentai team at will! They (minus Gai who does it using his staff) do it by using the Mobirate/Mobilate and the Sentai/Ranger Keys
The form changes come in the form of the Ranger Keys, and there’s one for every member of each Sentai, and they were so popular that they are STILL making new ones. They… don’t really work anymore cuz they only programed in the ones from when it was airing but it’s still pretty cool!
The main villains of the series are the Space Empire Zangyack, a bunch of royal pains that are out to conquer the universe, and Earth and the Great Powers just so happen to be the things they need to make it happen.

You should watch it because THE CHARACTERS ARE A++++++++ AND ALSO ITS FUCKIN FUN AS HELL
