So, back around 2022-2023, I had to explain to a BUNCH of friends what exactly is/was the Undertale/UTMV fandom. It was hard to explain AUs of AUs… of multiverses… to people which weren’t there to personally experience the transition?
A lot of these stories and ideas just stems from people getting inspired off of other people, and kind of building up from there. However, if you weren’t really there for the natural progression of that… the fandom will kind of seem like… a lot (even though it kind of is ^^ the rabbit hole runs deep…).
So, I tried my hand at semi-making a “comprehensive” guide to how I see the layers of the fandom ^^” (in a silly, not-so-serious way).
The deeper you go into this fandom, the harder it sometimes gets to even leave 💀
Anyways, tag yourself, I’m stuck in Hell 7 🕺
(note: please don’t take this entirely too seriously! I just used this as a way to make the entirety of the fandom slightly more digestible, instead of me yapping for hours in a pseudo lecture about the history of the fandom).
Short answer: Depends on the characters.
I can work on a longer answer at a different time, but yeah- it depends on who the original characters are regarding both ship children and fusions.
If the characters are from the base game? (Undertale)? Hell 2-3. Sixbones (created by Zarla) could be interpreted as either an alternate timeline OR an alternate AU (the line surrounding Hells 2 and 3 are very fuzzy 💞). This goes for fusions with Undertale (base game) characters and OCs, as well as OC x Undertale character ship children.
Now, shipping AU characters, whom are in/from the same AU, but it's from Hell 3 onward? Hell 4.
Think of it as an AU of an AU where like... Idk, Outertale sans and your blorbo have a kid. That would be separate from the original work of Outertale- thus moving this story from Hell 3 to 4.
Anything that involves multiversal characters (Hell 5)? Definitely Hell 6. Paperjam, Gradient, Goth, Palette, Blueprint, etc. Since, typically, these children come about in a sort of "what if" AU. What if this character x this character has kids?
Any ship children or fusions that are pulled from characters of the Hell 7 ring need to be burned /lh /j
In regards of AUs of those characters (fusions and ship children), it's as simple as just moving one hell layer down 🤗
