“The Good and the Bad: How Social Media Affected Me as a Gen Z Individual”
People, especially those in Generation Z, can't seem to exist without social media these days. It was as though their existence was dependent on the existence of social. The majority of people we encounter in every corner of the city are glued to their phones. And they don't seem to be able to take their gaze away from it. And I must admit that social media has been a tremendous assistance to us as individuals. However, things will always have a beneficial and negative impact on people's lives.
One of the benefits of social media is that it allows you to keep in touch with friends, peers, and colleagues who you might not otherwise see. In addition, there is a wealth of information in social media, and one of the most pleasant ways to learn is through the creative content shared on social media sites like as YouTube and TikTok. Internal messaging platforms, social networks, and group conversations make it simple to share funny videos and memes. Gen Z would rather spend two hours scrolling through social media sites, which offer hundreds of interesting videos, photographs, and mediated human interactions, than sit in front of a cable television program, since they believe the latter adds more value to their lives. Despite all of the benefits of social media in our lives, it also has drawbacks. One of the bad effects of social media is that it is a time waster, since Generation Z prefers to stay connected on their phones rather than do the things that's needed to be done. Furthermore, social media comparison exists, a trap set by the visual nature of social media that can lead to unreasonable expectations for one's life, work, friend group, or attractiveness. It's also difficult to ever compare. My acquaintances frequently complain about how social media makes individuals unlovable by encouraging disagreement, provoking harsh answers, and rewarding unpleasant behavior. Gen Z is concerned about the propagation of hate and misinformation, which many regard as the most damaging side effect of social media platforms.1
