Someone asked me on Twitter if I, as a non-union actor, would be joining in the strike, should SAG/AFTRA initiate one. The answer is yes. I will vet any union jobs I’m offered to make sure I’m not scabbing. I will not cross the picket lines.
This article on Backstage (link in comments) gives a great overview of the situation, the effects it can have on non-union actors, and the need to avoid underhanded behavior (like scabbing) that can get you in a lot of trouble down the road.
The decision to strike is the decision to put livelihoods on the line, risking future work and immediate income. It’s not a decision the unions make lightly. In this case especially, the unions are fighting for the heart and soul of movies and television against the threat of AI, and the ongoing livelihoods of their members in the form of residuals and fair compensation, especially against the streaming services.
I support the WGA and I will support a SAG/AFTRA strike.

Union card or not, your career will be influenced by the actions of actors’ unions.
