Laura took a deep breath, and exhaled slowly. She stroked Gabby’s hair, feeling the humidity of her body as the fever made her sweat. Sweat was good, her body was trying to cool itself.

There was a knock at the door. “That’ll be Bobby,” she murmured, “I’ll send him away when we have you cooling down if you want. But the man can produce a whole ice palace to keep you cool, it seemed like the most expedient option.”

Gabby looked up at Laura and eventually nodded, choosing once again to trust her. Laura was older, she understood the world better than she did. Or at least, this world... A world of having friends you could rely on, trust.

She shifted out from under Laura’s arm and lay back on her bed, allowing her sister to go an answer the door.
