You may be looking for my side blog, @thegentlesurvive , which is the bouba to this blog’s kiki (not that different, except there’s a lot more swiftie shit, non-fandom art, and the mediocre jokes are in cursive).
What I post: • text posts to the void • the occasional edit, gif, or gifset (usually x-men related) • comic reread & series rewatch liveblogs • lukewarm fandom takes
What I reblog: • x-men (especially new mutants) • anything that makes me laugh • miscellaneous marvel, star wars, other media interests • posts pertaining to chronic illness (including mental illness), disability, neurodivergence, and disability rights • posts about queer art, history, and culture • the odd bit of history and trivia • lukewarm fandom takes
What I don’t post or reblog: • humorless rage-bait • despair-inducing posts • unironic “REBLOG THIS OR ELSE” “DON’T SCROLL OR YOU’RE A HEARTLESS MONSTER” type posts
What I tag: • flashing or strobing gifs or videos (i.e., anything that seems likely to be problematic for people with photosensitivities) • any common triggers I can think of in the format “[trigger] cw” (you’re welcome to let me know if I’ve missed one) including phobias and forms of discrimination, bigotry, and targeted violence • fandom content & liveblogs, so I can find posts later and you can blacklist stuff you’re not interested in seeing • U.S. politics & elections • SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19 related posts • medical stuff & chronic illness related posts
I tag politics/current events, elections, covid-related posts, civil rights issues, and chronic illness related posts not for people who want to stick their heads in the sand for as long as they can convince themselves it doesn’t affect them, but because those who are affected and allies deserve to have a little bit of their day not be dominated by it. It’s a marathon, not a sprint, and if you need to rest, I want you to be able to do that on your tumblr dash.
Sometimes I also tag “image id needed” on reblogs of screenshots of text that don’t have alt text or an image id. It’s just a note to self to help me find it again when I have the time/energy to add an image id, because I think it’s a good post! Please don’t take it as any kind of judgment.
I am retired!!! I retired in October of 2017 and have kept my promise not to exchange my labor for money.
Since 2017, I have only done stuff that I thought was interesting or useful regardless of whether it pays, because we have more than enough money, and despite what billionaires might tell you, there is literally no difference between "more than enough" and "much more than enough."
So I no longer work for money. But in retirement one must keep busy, which is why I have taken on an unpaid gig as the social media intern for a coffee and tea business that donates 100% of its profit to charity.
I also sometimes travel to universities and other places to speak in support of Partners in Health and global access to tuberculosis care, and sometimes I write books because writing makes me happy, and every Tuesday I make a video on vlogbrothers, and I make a podcast about the world cup with my friends from high school, and so on, but none of these things constitutes work. These are just Retirement Projects, which are essential to a happy retirement.
Every 'normal' adult is fussing around Pugsley and Wednesday because "poor children that must be so hard for you to see mom and dad break up like this"
But the kid are absolutely unfazed, arguing that "it's alright they will be together again soon". The normie are so sad for the "children clinging to vain hopes" until Morticia and Gomez get married again two weeks after the divorce.
In the meantime Mama and Uncle Fester fight about which one of them will go to whose custody.
They pretend to argue in court and at meeting with lawyers over the splitting of the properties but that's mostly Gomez insisting to leave more and more thing to his wife in an angry voice.
At home they decided not to talk to each other so Lurch has to (begrudgingly) transmit messages from one to the other, even when they are sat on either side of the table.
That works (more or less) then Morticia says one word in french and Gomez run to cover her with kisses until Morticia remind him that they are spliting (that's the only moment he seems to regret the whole thing)
I feel like I need to share this because idk if Europeans are familiar with the presence of Aldi in the US, but at least especially in my area they’ve been growing a lot recently. Like Aldi bought out some local failing grocery chains where I live (Louisiana) and have opened Aldis in all these somewhat rural communities and small towns, which for the record I’m fine with
But as a result of this they are advertising a lot more in my area and also in many cases, the people in these areas have never been confronted with Aldi or any European grocery store. So the ads that Aldi is pushing out to its new US customer base feature a cowboy shopping at Aldi who is explaining to new Aldi customers how Aldi works. Like this cowboy is explaining you gotta put a quarter in the shopping cart and why there are very little name brands. A cowboy is how they want to reach their American customer base. They gave us a cowboy
i think we should be ridiculing them more for this. you don't get to try and go all "queer website" when your staff likes to go on nuking sprees targeting the trans fem users
would be remiss not to mention that the rainbow notably straight up just removed the trans flag colors from it. like they’re gone. it’s the progress flag minus the trans flag colors.
I think I just identified one of the issues I’m having with learning a new language. All the apps I’ve used and videos I’ve watched are assuming the learner isn’t just fluent in their first language, but were educated in it through, idk, the middle or high school level? But although I’m fluent in English, I didn’t consistently attend classes or follow a curriculum past elementary school, and I dropped out completely after middle school. I know what nouns, pronouns, verbs, and adverbs are. I vaguely remember learning about the subject of a sentence. These apps start talking about ‘definite-’ and ‘indefinite articles,’ though, and they’re speaking a foreign language…except if it were actually in a foreign language, they would probably explain it! Most of the time, I can still figure out what the app means by context, but it trips me up just enough to be discouraging.
A fun thing about the kind of person who sees a post about how it's actually really fucked up that the default way for imperial core internet artists to produce merch is "outsource to services that pay pennies to workers somewhere in southeast asia to produce cheap trinkets with your designs on them" and decides to leave this kind of comment
Is that if you go to their blog it'll usually be full of posts talking about how generative AI users are irredeemably evil for using a service that exploits the intellectual work of widdle indie artists and pollutes the environment. Very fun kind of cognitive dissonance.
Using the evil slop machine to produce any kind of picture is a deeply morally reprehensible and exploitative act. Using the system of global imperialism to get acrylic charms with your drawings encased inside them made in a sweatshop somewhere in indonesia without having to pay anything close to a living wage for the people making them is the god-given right of any Artist and Creator™, and don't you dare criticize them for it, why are you pressuring small, independent creators?
There is something sooo deeply American going on with Seattle Children’s Hospital that I think would brick the minds of everyone outside of the United States.
The CHILDRENS hospital has to restrict helipad landings because of noise complaints from the wealthy home owners living next to it. Only the most urgent patients can land directly at the hospital. While the other kids have to land a mile away and are taken to the hospital via ambulance. Which is an unnecessary risk to the child’s life and also makes the families pay for the helicopter AND ambulance.
#every time I read this phrase the same thing happens#I read it as shittable and go wait that can't be right#oh right they were talking about public benches that makes more sense#but public bathrooms available without fees should also be a thing tho#cities should definitely be shittable#it happens EVERY SINGLE TIME
Part of getting older is realizing how absolutely insane it is that basically every form of media is constantly trying to convince us that the most interesting moments of the lived human experience are happening in HIGH SCHOOL…… girl who gives a flying fuck what 16 year olds are doing.
