"You know-- Christmas is a time for family."
Eve stood up with a long sigh clasping her hands together. She was both excited and nervous with having Gabriel under her roof. She had no idea if Michael would invade and decide to punish Eve. She had been trying to hide from that angel for thousands and thousands of years, but she felt an odd sense of security. All she wanted to do was let her guard down just once. “Well then, feathers, let’s show you to that room of yours!” Eve said grabbing his hand and leading him down the large hallway. On either side there were old paintings and greek inspired pillars- the marble floor was a nice touch also.
Taking a right at the end of the hallway she swung the door open. The room before them was somewhat bare compared to the rest of them, and a few cobwebs hung from every corner. The bedding was still completely covered, along with some other pieces of furnishing. “It hasn’t been used yet, but I thought this would be the perfect occasion. It just needs a woman’s touch.” Eve stated walking to the middle of the room extending her arms and twirling a bit. The room was filled with a warm glow as the sheet-coverings disappeared and everything was set in place. “Is this sufficient?” she asked almost craving his approval.
Eve stood up and went to him, seemingly cheery at his decision to stay as she asked. She took his hand and he obediently stood, his tea still in his free hand. He felt worry spread in him as she lead him down the halls. If what Eve told him was true about herself then it was obvious she had made herself as and enemy of heaven. He'd come to realize that his fondness of her never went unnoticed by others which was most likely why he was lied to that she was dead. If the others were to know that he was aware of her being alive and well they'd probably snatch him off the earth. If they knew that he also agreed to stay with her he probably wouldn't be allowed back to earth until she was dead and even then he would lose so much trust.
...But the touch of her hand in his. The feel of her presence.... Gabriel was greedy when it came to her. He wanted to stay. He wanted to be close to her.
He was shown to a room which, in size, didn't seem too inconvenient. Eve cleaned the room and he looked around quietly. It wouldn't be large enough to stretch out his wings fully but, truly, he'd never found many bedrooms that large. "Yes." he answered. "Just--" he held out a hand and the bits of furniture rearranged themselves so that the bed was pushed into the furthest corner of the room. "There." He smiled at her. "Perfect."
"Oh, pish posh, Gabe. It won’t be that hard to clear out a room in order to let you expand those plush wongs of yours. Tell me, have they grown any?" she chuckled jokingly. There was an uneasy feeling still in her stomach looking at the angel. "Listen, you’re always welcome to stay here. It’s not like I’d completely shun you- you’re probably the only one of the angels who I dont want to set ablaze.", with those words she brought the tea up to her soft lips again.
Gabe shrugged up his shoulders, feeling insecure about his wings for once. The appendages that he was normally greatly proud of but in the eyes of this woman in particular he felt nervousness in taking them out, even if she had seen them plenty of times before. He relaxed his shoulders and looked behind him, imagining the expanse of the golden wings that sometimes stuck out behind him. He looked around again and thought about it. "You know it is possible that they have grown. I haven't thought much on it."
He sipped his tea again and then nodded as he swallowed. "If you insist, Eve, I will stay. Just show me to my room."
This was exactly why she had to internalize everything, because if she didn’t, the truth would come out and it would ruin everything. She had been working her entire life to control her emotions, and basically learn what vampires could do in a second flat. She had to turn everything off, but somehow this one being could bring all of those back to the surface. It actually kind of pissed her off.
”Yes, I’ve found the company of friends to be exceptionally more entertaining than the company of a lover.” she said taking a sip of her tea. “I know this might be awkward, but would you like to stay tonight? It gets lonely around here, and it would be fun to have a pair of wings knocking things around.” Eve said crossing her legs and leaning back into the couch. Motioning towards the fireplace a fire lit itself.
He nodded in agreement. He pulled his tea up to his lip and took a sip quietly. He raised an eyebrow when she asked him to stay the night. He pulled the cup away and smacked his lips. "Stay the night?" Well that wouldn't really help him burry his newly discovered feelings. However, he chuckled. "I think you've forgotten how large my wings are, Eve." He glanced at the fireplace as it let at Eve's command. "I'm afraid I would end up breaking things."
”Gabriel, we can’t be together. In fact, there may have been a time I wanted to fuck you senseless, but it can never happen now.” she said walking over to the couch and sitting down. “That doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy your company, but there will be no canoodling.” Eve stating having to hold back the thing that was creeping up her throat. She motioned to the chair hoping he would still stay. That way she could at least be close to him in some form- in her own little way. “Maybe you’re not a bad angel, but there are bad angels. Would you even imagine what they would think?” she said with a small chuckle. She was hoping he would somewhat agree with her.
Eve's presence left to the couch and Gabriel was left standing a bit dumbstruck. Together? He wasn't... that wasn't what he was wanting from this visit. Or at least he was pretty sure it wasn't. Eve belonged, or used to belong, to Adam, and Adam belonged to her, therefore he never thought of her in that way. He had never explored the desire. But now the thought was put in his mind... He looked over his shoulder at her on the couch and, after thinking for a moment, nodded in response. "Yes... Yes they-- Michael would be most upset." His words were directed to her but he was almost more speaking to himself. He slowly turned and made his way to the chair she had motioned to earlier. "My apologizes." He said as he sat down in the chair. "I...didn't mean to come off that way." He smiled at her gently. "I would love to stay and be in your company as a friend, though."
Yes, friendship was nice. If it was what he was allowed, he would accept it. Though... some thoughts truly couldn't leave him.
Had she truly wanted him at some point? It surprised him to think that, had she had come to him with Adam gone... he probably would have gone along with what was happening.
Eve lightly pressed up against him imagining his wings keeping her safe. As much as she despised angels- they were the only things that would make her feel completely save- how ironic. She turned around and looked up at Gabriel. They were so close and the urge to kiss him might have been there for an instant, but she couldn’t ever do that. “Now why would having an angel of the Lord in my home upset me?How do I know you aren’t here to stab me in the back the moment you get the chance, huh?” she said reaching behind her putting the cup of tea against his chest waiting for him to take it.
Gabriel blinked as a cup of tea was shoved to his chest. He processed the moment for a second then reached up, hands wrapping around the warm mug. He stepped back from her, giving her the space she seemed to want. She seemed so angry about him being an angel. She used to love angels once upon a time but now... well, Gabriel supposed he could see where her distaste for heaven came from. Still, he was hurt that she would think he was there to lull her into false security and harm her. "I would never do such things to you, Eve." He answered honestly, shoulders dropping. "I'm not a soldier and, more so, I am not an assassin. I am not here to kill you. ...I only came to see you. Because I care about you." He paused and sighed. "And perhaps you did kill Adam and, as an angel, I should be upset with you about that... but I'm not. Because, truly, deep down I do still care about you."
Feeling his hand clasp her shoulder a chill shot through her body. “No, it’s okay, Gabriel. I shouldn’t have snapped like that. It’s just a sore topic- even after all this time.” Eve said turning around calming herself and putting a smile on her face. Reaching up she moved a stray strand of his hair back in place- just like she used to. “I promise I’ll brighten up for the time being. For old times sake.”, she promised turning around and taking out the tea. Looking down at the two cups she noticed her hands were shaking slightly. This entire conversation was bringing up all of these feelings Eve had locked away in her mind.
Gabriel pulled his hand back and let it fall by his side again when Eve turned around. He nodded. "I understand. Still, I apologize for bringing up such sensitive topics. I should have thought before speaking." He smiled at her as she tucked one of his hairs back into place. It took him back to old memories where she would tuck his hair back and fix his crooked feathers. He missed those days dearly.
She turned and he stepped closer to look over her shoulder at the cups of tea. They shook just slightly and he reached around her, placing steady hands over her shaking ones. "Are you alright?" he questioned quietly. "My presence isn't... upsetting to you, is it?"
Eve stopped everything she was doing. “Well, that honestly doesn’t surprise me in the slightest. First of all, I killed Adam. Not sure how much they liked that, but I couldn’t handle being there with him twenty-four seven. They wanted me too, but I realized I just wasn’t in love, and my son died… and I lost it.”, she said ripping the box in half and throwing the bags of tea into the cups- she didn’t have home made tea. “Well, as you can see, I am very much alive.” Eve hissed putting the tea cups into the microwave.
Gabriel flinched when Eve ripped the box in half and swallowed hard. "Yes...you are. And I'm very glad about that." He hesitantly took a step forward towards Eve. "I-- missed you, Eve. I used to enjoy visiting you in the garden, even though Adam was never quite fond of me..." He picked up his hand and let it hover before placing it gently over Eve's shoulder in a comforting way. "I apologize. I did not mean to upset you, Eve."
Eve looked down glancing at her shoes before being able to meet his eyes again. “What do you mean, Gabriel? We just had a conversation the other day. It was-what- maybe a few days?” Even said pulling down some cups and plates. She turned completely around and began preparing the tea.
Gabriel sighed. "I meant," he explained, "It has been a long time since we have met before Mayfield. Our last conversation here was... I will admit I was slightly shocked. I kept things very business related...not truly knowing how to respond to seeing you again." He paused and straightened up, putting his hands behind his back then looking at the back of Eve's head as she worked with the tea. "They-- I thought you dead, Eve. Raphael told me you had died along with Adam."
Flashes from the Garden went through Eve’s mind. Every time the archangels would visit, Eve would meet them at the gates. She used to love watching them come down with their beautiful wings, but her favorite set of wings were Gabriel’s. “I have peppermint, green, and herbal tea.”, she said turning around meeting his gaze.
Gabriel looked up in thought for a moment before meeting Eve's gaze. "Peppermint." He decided. He liked the fresh taste of mint. He paused for a moment after his answer then rocked on his heels as he spoke. "You know... it has been a long time since our last meeting, Eve." he mentioned, trying to keep the calm tone of the conversation.
"Yes, I suppose I did. What kind of tea would you like, Gabe?" she said before punching her lips together and walking over to the cabinet.
He walked behind her, looking around at the inside of the home she had settled herself into. Nice. Lavish. Very fitting to Eve's taste. He looked back to her at the cabinet and took a few more steps in. He felt awkward and, perhaps, not wanted? He could remember a time when his presence aws welcomed with by Eve with open arms. He glanced in the cabinet and then back to Eve. "What do you have?"
”What are you doing here?”
"I came for a visit. I thought you said once that you'd like to have tea, Eve."
You do know that I was the daughter of Lilith when I was a human, right? I’ve dealt with them the list two years of my life. I honestly think I will be fine, Gabriel.
Sure they are my family, but I have to get used to them. I went from being an only child, kinda, to an angel with thousands of brothers and sisters- give a girl a break.
Don’t worry about me and let’s just do some sibling bonding or whatever. You’re my favorite, of course! So let’s just not worry about Michael for this moment in time. Have you met Andy?
Just because you've dealt with them as a child as Lilith does not make it the same as now, Darcy. You're an angel now. Though... Lilith is more peaceful towards family which you still are as an angel. Your a sister in law to her now... which is slightly strange but I've witnessed stranger things.
Alright, alright... It just might not hurt to get to know the others well, that is all I'm saying.
Of course I am! I'm everyone's favorite.
Right, right, sibling bonding, fine. Mmm... Andy? Yes--well... briefly. I looked for him, as you asked, and found that he'd been taken by Midas who was using Andy as something to take his anger out on. Midas, however, had already done damage to the boy. He's filled him with demon blood. "Hyde", as I hear he calls it, is no longer a figuring haunting his thoughts. He can come out again. And, before you ask, no... I cannot fix what has happened Andrew Burns. I cannot removed "Hyde" from him... not even the the Archangels have that power. [sighs] After I saved him he was too weak as Andrew to remain that way...so Hyde took over. That was the last I saw him, though I'm sure he's taken back control by now.
Oh, don’t try and convince me to go back. I honestly don’t think Michael is going to notice as long as he’s on his “we need to purge this town of evil” rampage. You know, I never guessed he would have been this hot-headed. At least you make up for all the hot-headed butt faces up there. I’m just a new angel… they won’t notice… and I wanted to come back to Mayfield-oh and visit you.
Please don’t be grumpy over this. I thought you might need a stress reliever or something, and I’m here to help!
...[sighs] He knows you're close to me. He might check up to see if you're staying put. Hot-headed butt faces?
And now she's resorted to name calling! [laughs] Darcy, they are your siblings. Even if they can be a little temperamental. You hardly talk to anyone in heaven besides me. Most of them, yes, are quite hot-headed soldiers but you should perhaps try to get along with more of our siblings? Especially if you're going to follow me down to Earth! I told my brother it was only me who came down! So, forget Michael, you may have to deal with Lucifer too!
[sighs] I'm not-- mad. Or grumpy, however you want to put it. I'm just nervous for you. That's all.
Well hey, nobody saw me coming down here. At least, that’s what I’m hoping. I’m still getting the hang of my landing, but I would have given myself a good seven points.
You've never been the best at landing, you nearly fell on your face the first time you tried! And you would have and then you would have flipped over and landed right on your wing and sprained it if I wasn't the-- hang on.
Darcy? Darcy what are you doing here!? I told you not to leave! I-- did you come down here without asking? What am I saying? Of course you did! Michael would have never let you down here. Darcy. If he finds out you're down here he'll be furious!
It's been a while since I've stretched my wings... though I do wish it were more cloudy. I've found an angel flying can be quite a shock to humans...
No, they won’t miss that so-called King. Actually I make make him mine for a while and have some fun with him- he’s kinda of sexy in a weird demonic way, don’t you think? Oh wait, that’s right, you can’t be gay.I keep forgetting how much of prudes you winged jesus-freaks can be. Actually, your ignorance is kind of… attractive.
I don’t want this town to live in peace, exactly, but I don’t need your brother coming down and ruining all of the fun I have planned for this place. Actually, it’s be nice to have a little chat with him about all of this. Maybe I can catch him via angel f.m.
Would you like to go get some tea, Gabriel?
Wh-- Eve, while I do not find Midas, er...sexually appealing, it is human imagination that believes that God and heaven dislikes homosexuals. Heaven is completely indifferent when it comes to sexual orientation. As for myself, however, I...I have no sexual orientation. At least none thats known, at least. I've never thought of anyone in a sexual way. I've never had the need or want.
Do what you will with Midas, just keep him out of trouble.
Well I... I don't approve of that. I really hope your peace doesn't involove harming several people thought I have a feeling it does. No, no we can do without talking to Michael. I'd rather him not be involved with anyone down here besides myself.
Tea? Right now? I wouldn't mind.
