What are the problems of old greenhouse soil？
01. High mineral nutrient content, relatively little organic matter.
There will be excessive mineral nutrients and deficient organic matter, when the soil in the greenhouse has been grown for many years. Soil granular structure which doesn’t always exist is being formed and consumed. The soil hardening and salinization make the soil environment more severe while putting into more fertilizer.
02. Low absorption and utilization rate of nutrients.
The excess of mineral nutrients in old greenhouse is not formed in a short time, but because of the accumulation and fixation of large amounts of mineral elements in the soil. Those nutrients that can’t be absorbed affect the absorption of other elements, which makes soil’s function of supplying fertilizer exist in name only.
03. Soil organism and microorganism become less and less.
With the decrease of soil organic matter, the organisms and beneficial microorganisms in soil which depend on organic matter are in decline for lack of food. The decline of beneficial organisms makes the soil harden. While the decline of beneficial microorganisms will reduce the ability to inhibit harmful bacteria and convert nutrients. So there are more soil-borne diseases in old greenhouse. Â
How to improve the old greenhouse soil?
01. Scientific fertilization, reduce compound fertilizer, increase organic fertilizer and bactericide etc.
At present, there is no lack of fertilizer in greenhouse soil. In the old greenhouse, the content of N P K exceeds standard seriously. The greenhouse which has soil hardening should reduce compound fertilizer, or even do not use it. It needs to increase the amount of organic fertilizer and bactericide. Increasing soil organic matter can effectively reduce soil hardening, salinization and other problems.
02. Improve the way of plastic film mulching.
A few years ago, many vegetable growers choose full coverage mulching film to reduce the humidity in the greenhouse, and the occurrence of diseases. While with practice, this method does not make sense. It affects the contact between soil and air, which increases the difficulty of soil gas exchange. It is suggested that vegetable growers should adopt such methods as planting arch, mulching film and spreading crop straw, etc.
03. Improve the way of watering.
Adopting micro irrigation facilities can reduce the damage of soil by watering, and avoid soil surface hardening. Water consumption for micro irrigation should be controlled. Many vegetable growers who have newly installed micro irrigation facilities think that they didn’t pour enough water when they can’t see water on the ground. As a result, excessive water consumption affects the growth of vegetables. It is suggested that vegetable growers control precipitation according to the watering time to ensure that water permeates to 25cm underground.
04. Use functional fertilizer to improve soil environment.
There are many fertilizer products that can improve gas permeability of soil and condition the pH of soil, such as Cocoly--- the granular water-soluble fertilizer.
