Cameron wandered around the banquet hall, hands shoved deep in the pockets of his robes. A thin sheen of sweat glistened on his forehead, from the dancing, the lights, or the excitement of being named champion, he didn’t know. Still, he had a strange feeling in the pit of his stomach. “Hey, I know this is random, but do you maybe want to get out of here?”

Gage had been a bystander to most of the affair, trying his hand at Shaksouka. The food in Dubai was working with his tastebuds ( he tried not to think of how long it’d be before he properly needed to feed ). When one of the champions had approached him, he looked behind him before scrunching his eyebrow. “Uh, depends? You know I’m not the competition, right? So no need to do something shady to try and get rid of me.”

albus spluttered for a few moments at the question he got from the student ( a stranger at that ), wondering if they were actually serious or if this was simply a prank they decided to play on him because he had been chosen as champion. he hadn’t even been selected that long ago, surely a rumour about him having a daddy kink couldn’t actually have spread throughout the schools. “do i have a          what??” 

“I’d try to not let it get to you,” Gage interrupted, casting a glance at the girl who had asked the question before turning back to the Hogwarts champion. “Students from other schools are going to be determined to try and trip you up.” Not that Gage would’ve reacted much better if someone had asked him that question. Another reason he was glad he didn’t enter. Though he could only imagine what they would try to throw at Riley, if they were already getting under the Potter boy’s skin.

He couldn’t believe that Riley had never told him that she had entered her name into the competition, yet hers had been one of the four named. Among the four was also, unfortunately, Nate Tuft, and while Gage wanted his school to win, at what cost did he want that to happen? “The tournament is meant to be more about global cooperation. Not conflict.”

Though she expected the kindness from Gage, people were being overall REALLY kind to her, which she didn’t expect. “Listen, if you want to start a powerpoint, go ahead, but I’ll be out of commission on it until this goes away, lord,” she groaned, “this,” pointing between her and Gage, “feels like therapy, I’ll have you know.”

"What am I know, the Messiah? I’m only half-vampire, and I’ve never actually died, you know?” Glancing around the secluded area they were in, Gage assumed the information was safe to divulge. It wasn’t that he was secretive, but he’d prefer it not be the first thing someone learned about him. He knocked his shoulder against Riley’s. “Lucky for you, I left my laptop in my room. And I’m not so sure you need therapy so much as an intervention. I’ll make a huge banner and everything for the occasion.”

“Remind me why I drink alcohol?? It’s the devil’s poison,” Riley groaned, her cheek finding the nearest cool surface, “I dunno what you guys put in your alcohol here but it’s not ALCOHOL.”

The chilled, sweating side of a water bottle touched Riley’s temple as an offering as Gage crossed his arms. "We could compile a list, if you wanted? Not for reasons why you drink. Reasons why, perhaps, next time, you should reconsider the amount you consume.”
