downworlder-shadowhunter alliance
facilisdescensoaverni said:
Can you tell us something more about the Downworlder-Shadowhunter Alliance? I would like to know how exactly does it work, how does it grew up since Alec-Lily-Maiaâs (I know Magnus is on it too) reunions, how does the Clave see it and all those kind of things if it isnât too much to ask. Please? Love all your books btw, thank you so much for the shadowhunter world.
The Alliance rose out of the ashes of the Dark War, as we learn in Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy:
After the war with Sebastian, the Shadowhunters had been left dealing with the betrayal of the faeries and the crisis of how many Institutes had fallen and how many Nephilim had been Endarkened and lost in the war, their second war in a year. They were in no shape to keep a close eye on the Downworlders, but the Downworlders had lost a great deal as well. Old structures that had held their society in place for centuries, like the Praetor Lupus, had been destroyed in the war. The faeries were waiting to revolt. And the werewolf and vampire clans of New York both had brand-new leaders. Both Lily and Maia were young to be leaders, and had succeeded entirely unexpectedly to leadership. Both of them had found themselves, due to inexperience and not lack of trying, in trouble. Maia had called Magnus and asked if she could come and visit him, to ask his advice on a few things. When she showed up, sheâd dragged Lily along with her. Lily, Maia, and Magnus then sat around Magnusâs coffee table shouting at each other for hours.
âŚ
Magnus had not expected the meetings to happen more than a few times, let alone to see a rapport spring up between Alec and Lily. Alec had not been entirely comfortable with vampires, once. But Alec always responded to being relied on, being turned to. Whenever Lily came to him with a problem, at first haughtily and with an air of reluctance and later with demanding confidence, Alec did not rest until he had solved it.
One Thursday evening Magnus had heard the doorbell and walked in from the bedroom to find Alec laying out glasses, and realized that the occasional emergency gatherings had become regular meetings. That Maia and Lily and Alec would unroll a map of New York to pinpoint problem areas and have heated debates in which Lily made very nasty werewolf jokes, and each of them would call the other when they had a problem they did not know how to solve. That Downworlders and Shadowhunters alike would come to New York knowing there was a group with Downworlders and Shadowhunters who had power and would cooperate to solve problems. They would come to consult and find out if the group could help them, too. Magnus realized that this was his life now, and he would not have it different.
The Shadowhunter-Downworlder Alliance is an adaptable entity. They try to meet regularly, but Maia, Lily, Alec, and Magnus each have a lot of irons in the fire, so they keep their schedule flexible. There are times when they seek help or advice from others, and they have no small number of allies, but the core group of the Alliance remains its four founders. (Due to the Cold Peace, they do not have a faerie member at the moment.)
When the Alliance gathers, they discuss any Shadowhunter/Downworlder safety issues that have arisen since their last meeting, and check in on ongoing problems. Thereâs a lot of brainstorming of how to handle territory disputes, and mediate between individuals and groups who mistrust each other.
Over time, the Alliance has gained a reputation for being able to solve problems without a lot of bureaucracy or red tape slowing them down. They are respected by Downworlders of all kinds, and that in itself is a huge achievement.
The Clave doesnât have an official position on the Alliance. Individuals within the Clave have varying opinions. Some think it is a travesty (cough-thecohort-cough), others are fairly neutral on the subject, and many are deeply grateful for the work the Alliance does. The Dark War left everyone weaker. The work of the Alliance has alleviated some of the strain on the depleted numbers of the Nephilim. Members of the Clave who have close relationships to Downworlders value the Alliance as a model for a path forward in which Shadowhunters and Downworlders work together.
Will the work that Lily, Maia, Alec, and Magnus are doing inspire others to form Shadowhunter/Downworlder collectives? That would be nice, wouldnât it? : ) Youâll get to learn more about the Alliance in upcoming books.

chiron, the wounded healer
The Chiron in Aries wound relates to your identity. Feeling like you are not worthy, that your qualities are not acknowledged and a fear that you have no value at all- all of these are indicators of an Aries Chiron. This is your silent wound: feeling unworthy and self-neglect, impotence of the self. This results in hypersensitivity to criticism, offended dignity and difficulty in asserting yourself. It also suggests physical abuse, wound, deformity and other issues.
The Chiron in Taurus wound relates to neglect. Feeling like you didnât get enough of something (emotional, physical, material, mental, spiritual, etc), also expecting to receive more attention than you did, feeling unfulfilled and undernourished in some way- all of these are indicators of a Taurus Chiron. It all comes down to your sense of worth; a kind of void that wonât go away, and even if you try to fill it, you canât as it seems like a dark hole. This is your silent wound: feeling neglected, in some way or another. Either because people donât value you as much as you deserve to be; or because youâre expecting too much from them.
The Chiron in Gemini wound relates to a pain of doubting yourself, your ability to communicate clearly and feeling misunderstood. Feeling like you are not capable of speaking effectively, or that no one will listen to you or believe what you have to say- all of these are indicators of a Gemini Chiron. This is your silent wound. Even if you try to cover it up by emphasizing your mental capacities, you are very sensitive (psychologically) to what other people say.
The Chiron in Cancer wound relates to lack of nurture/ love. Feeling like youâve been abandoned, or like you canât form strong ties, personal protection and belonging issues, fearing challenges and seeking safety above all- these are indicators of a Cancer Chiron. Itâs also very common for people with this placement to feel unworthy of love to some extent, and thus, always give more than what they get.
The Chiron in Leo wound relates to not being able to fully express the things that are within you. Feeling like people donât give you the chance to shine, having a life that doesnât stimulate your essence, not being able to feel joy at its fullest, not believing in your abilities, and not being recognized for your gifts and talents - all of these are indicators of a Leo Chiron. It all comes down to your self-expression; and this is your silent wound: lack of self-expression and hurting ego, in some way or another. Either because people donât let you be yourself; they overlook your talents; or because you for some reason feel like you shouldnât express yourself.
The Chiron in Virgo wound relates to compulsive behaviors fueled by perfectionism. Feeling like you can never do something perfectly, or that you are not good enough are indicators of this placement. It suggests anxiety, pressure and stress issues, uncontrollable urge to control everything around you/yourself as much as possible. Self-doubt is very common- youâre too critical at times. Your silent wound is the need to fix in order to make thing perfect.
The Chiron in Libra wound relates to hurtful relationships. Feeling like you trust the wrong people, getting hurt over and over, getting caught in a co-dependent relationship, unrequited love- all of these are indicators of a Libra Chiron. You may feel like people in general keep disappointing you, or maybe you feel like itâs you who are disappointing them. This is your silent wound: hurt when it comes to relationships. Either because theyâre abusive or play with your feelings, or because theyâve made you cold and you donât know how to trust anymore.
The Chiron in Scorpio wound relates to fear. It can have many manifestations, depending on which house it is placed: fear of loss, of the unknown, of persecution, confrontation, death or ever change. As Scorpio is also the sign of âpowerâ, this position brings about many power issues, such as you being drawn to dangerous situations to feel empowered, or constant feeling like youâre out of control.
The Chiron in Sagittarius wound relates to feeling confined in a mundane existence. Wanting to break traditions or spiritual teachings, feeling like they have no deep wisdom, feeling like they canât achieve glory, searching for the truth desperately - all of these are indicators of a Sagittarius Chiron. This is your silent wound: Â a desperate need to find meaning, in some way or another. Itâs common for people with Chiron in Sagittarius to feel like they are an eagle inside, but are tied and cannot fly. Thereâs a lingering fear that you can never be glorious or live life like an adventure.
The Chiron in Capricorn wound relates to not being recognized. Feeling like you are not heard, that your efforts are not acknowledged and a fear that no one will listen to you and recognize your value- all of these are indicators of a Capricorn Chiron. It all comes down to how youâre seen regarding your potential. This is your silent wound: feeling underappreciated, in some way or another. Even if people recognize what you have to offer, in your own mind thereâs always a deep-rooted fear of failing people, not doing your best at something or not succeeding, which would imply an identity crisis.
The Chiron in Aquarius wound relates to feeling different. Social rejection, fear of large groups of people, a need to withdraw from the public- all of these are indicators of an Aquarius Chiron. You may feel like you donât belong, or you donât share the same interests with the people around you, so you feel alone, isolated. This is your silent wound: not fitting in, somehow. Either because youâre disconnected from the world, or because you feel like the world disappoints you.
The Chiron in Pisces wound relates to the pain of disconnection. Feeling like youâre not âwholeâ, youâre not who youâre supposed to be, or that you canât come to terms with higher forces or even with humanity in general- all of these are indicators of a Pisces Chiron. You can lack faith in yourself, in others and in the universe. You may feel like you canât quite understand how the world works, like you know God works in mysterious ways but you canât fully accept this. You donât trust your ability to survive.

I still find the whole concept of Bojack Horseman to be so weird. Like, itâs a show thatâs trying to be three different shows at once and somehow succeeding.
âOkay, itâs a satire on the entertainment industry, but also itâs a show where animals act like people, and also itâs a gritty exploration of living with depression.â
âThe World has abandoned me.â
Our party is fighting a nuclear family of Royal Sea People, where the Dad (King) is basically a Fighter, the Mom (Queen) is a spellcaster, and the boy (Prince) is a rogue. The Prince immediately rolls a nat 20 to hide from the party (supposedly to prepare a sneak attack) and by the time anyone rolls high enough to see him, heâs definitely out of the room. Our Sorcerer uses Charm Person successfully on the King, who then, despite the Queenâs protests, sprints to the kitchen to get him Hot Dogs. Bard (Ooc): Ok, since itâs just the Queen Iâm gonna use Disguise Self to change into the son. Sorcerer (Ooc): OhâŚ. Bard (Ooc): What? Sorcerer (Ooc): Sorry I thought you meant you were going to disguise yourself as like the literal Sun.
Later the Son (Dave) did return and had eaten both of his parentâs hearts and transformed into an eldritch monstrosity; complete with eye-stalks, a side-ways shark mouth, and eight scuttling limbs. Our Bard had history with this kid and was more enraged than intimidated. Bard (still disguised as the sonâs human form): Hey Davey! Dave: *looks* Bard (disguised): You should kill me first. I want you to see what youâre gonna look like after my friends kick your ass!
Potential Plays-of-the-Game included: The Rangerâs Wolf criting on a Bite attack, our Fighter stabbing this thing with a found trident and succeeding a strength contest with it, and our Sorcererâs Wild Magic randomly turing everyone invisible (including the Monster itself).
After our party collectively knocking nearly 300hp off this boss, he was just about down for the count. Bard: HEY, DAVEY! *Picks up the crown off the Kingâs head* Dave: *looks* Bard:  *Puts on Crown* *Casts Vicious Mockery* KING ME. He lands the final blow. The monster is obliterated. Everyone is screaming. Including the DM. A great time is had.
When you realise all the âold Taylorsâ were trying to save their âreputationâ and theyâre crawling to the top and keep falling down because they never felt like they succeeded and kept getting knocked over again and again. But then you see the ânew Taylorâ standing over them in a calm and collected stance. Basically Taylor saying sheâs risen and she wonât take anybodyâs unnecessary bullshit anymore.Â
