Have you heard of the Gilded Age? (End of the Nineteenth Century, America) Only now are we in sight of achieving the level of wealth inequality that arose then, with squalid working conditions in unregulated factories, child labor employed routinely, and little hope of even basic education. Satirists of the time depicted bloated millionaires trampling on the bodies of the pitiful masses. There is some kind of flaw in Naked Ape males that some will glory in the degradation of others, as if this elevates their own delusional wonderfulness. They attract from the the stupidest around them ranks of gullible syncophants to puff up their delusions further. The only remedy for this congenital condition is to close ranks to puncture their narcissistic ambitions. Specifically we must rally to protect the institutions that were created then to thwart their ravenous machinations: strict labor protections, consumer rights initiatives, widespread public education, access to affirmative health care, public funding of progressive projects, recurrent financial reforms. It used to be said, "The cost of freedom is eternal vigilance." We badly need to remember that now.
