A Coders Struggle
There are times in a coders life when they ask themselves “Am I doing my best?” and sometimes they can answer that wholeheartedly and say “yes, I am” but for myself, the question has been asked far too many times in the last few weeks as I’ve gotten to coding and trying to finish the theme for Galaxias.
I found myself asking this very question, and my answer was not “yes, I am” but “no, I’m not”.
It’s not a matter of me not putting my best foot forward, because lord knows I’m working as hard as I can to create something great for Galaxias. No, my issue is my lack of knowledge of things outside CSS and HTML (aka JQuery and Javascript).
Though I’ve been coding for almost ten years, I’ve realized just how little I know outside of the CSS and HTML realms.
As I’ve been pondering and seeing all the new works being released by fellow coders, I can’t help but feel inferior. Though I’m happy and proud of them for continuing to grow and release new things, I find myself feeling lesser than them. My ability to learn things like Javascript and JQuery has grown immensely difficult. Being self taught (as many other coders here are) my issues lie within my ability to take in information (with JQuery and Javascript) without someone physically helping me with it.
I can understand the basics of JQuery and Javascript, but most of what I learned has been through minimal tutorials that give you most of the information you need without actually teaching you how to do it.
You may wonder, “why not ask for help?” and I wish I could simply do so, but unlike others here, I’m not close to anyone with knowledge of those elements, and as much as I want to grow close to the other coders in this community, I can’t help but bite back my pride and continue fighting that inner battle telling me to ask for help and just simply being unable to do so.
I want to bring you guys something fresh, new and exciting. Something you’ll be proud of, but my current lack of confidence in my coding has me struggling. I feel ashamed for not having Galaxias up and running, and with it’s two year anniversary coming up soon, I feel obligated to work as hard as I can to finally get Galaxias back to it’s once vibrant liveliness.
I’m sorry to those who have been here with us at Galaxias for not bringing you the work you wish us to. It’s a struggle to run this place alone, but I’m working my hardest to try and bring you something genuine and great. I’m sorry to those I’ve let down, to those who have waited so patiently and either remained with us or gave up on us. I apologize to you all for the long absence, but I swear to you I am doing all I can to work to my goal of getting Galaxias back to you guys.
You all mean so much to me, to Galaxias, and without you we wouldn’t have gotten as far as we have. I hope that I can learn more sooner rather than later, because lord have I been struggling to figure out how to do certain things within JQuery and Javascript that I’ve been trying to implement into themes (including the Galaxias main theme).
I apologize for this very long post, which most people more than likely won’t read, but if you do, thank you for taking the time out of your day to listen.
I love you all, and I hope you’re all having a wonderful week(end).
