Janna personally knew many of Shurima’s spirit-gods before they were felled by the Ascended. Its part of why she has such a grudge against the Ascended as well as the Darkin.

He blinked a few times before reaching up and touching the spot on his head. Then he gave a sneeze, shaking his head.
“What was that for?”
Mischievous laughter bubbled up from the spirit. A moment later she booped him again.
“You just seemed very boopable!” She explained, laughing once more.

Though it had been ages since worship of those considered “false gods” by the Shuriman Empire had been prohibited the effects of that action were still felt to this day. It was likely a different story on other continents were spirits were more of a regular and accepted occurrence.

“If ever you require my aid once more, Ekko, all you need do is think of me. Call out my name in your mind and I will know. I will come to you.” She heard all the prayers and thoughts the Zaunites intended for her. As a spirit god she was empowered by these thoughts, but it was more than just that. She knew who spoke each one and would come to their side if they required her.
Many spirits preferred to keep to themselves, to stay hidden, but not Janna. Janna cared deeply for all the Zaunites and wouldn’t sit idly by if they were being hurt and she could put a stop to it.

Janna wiggled her fingers. “Just a little magic upon the winds. Those humans will think twice about disturbing the peace of this grove again.” There was a hint of mischief in the spirit’s gaze as if she had delighted in causing those ne'er-do-wellsome trouble.
The gust of wind had pushed the humans right off the nearby cliff, though Janna had been kind enough to make sure they hadn’t died from the fall of course. Just a little something to scare them into leaving.
