A few photos from my liminal collection.
A foggy mind, the fog of war, the use of fog as a tool in the best survival horror games, a foggy future. Despite the fact that it's summer, everything seems foggy to me, and probably to many people.
Here's another batch of summer photos from my collection. By the way, some of the places in these photos are now occupied territories. So, no more holidays at the sea. Work, work, work. I made the game for a year and a half, 10 hours a day. It's great, so I've warmed up well enough to continue working, there's still a lot of work to be done. The sea is still occupied.
RELEASE
After 1 year 5 months and 19 days, my game has finally been released. It's been an incredibly difficult time. My suffering has now been converted into a good game design, so I recommend you give my game a try, I'm sure you'll like it.
Also my principle is that I will only sell games that I would buy for that price. And I'm not very rich yet.

Living in an old post-Soviet area all the time can be quite depressing, but as an aesthetic to represent in video games or films, it works very well. I'm confident that I was able to convey this aesthetic even in a two-dimensional game.

Before making the tilesets and creating the game level, I made a paper model of the level. This helped to facilitate the process of creating it a lot. In addition, it allows you to make a second iteration and improve something while creating the first version in the game, which saves a lot of time later.

The last time I went for a walk further than two kilometres from home was almost two years ago. I would like to go for a walk somewhere outside the city again. Such walks really inspire me, but the time hasn't come yet. I prefer the atmosphere of late autumn or early spring, but summer can also be very inspiring in certain circumstances.
How do you make the player empathise with the characters in the storyline?
How do you make the player empathise with the characters in the storyline? There are situations in games with moral choices, but they are not always worked out in the right way, in my opinion. For the player to feel the situation better, it is necessary to mark it somehow on a subconscious level, for example, with a certain answer, not only will certain events happen to the characters, but they will also affect the player. For example, he will lose some resources. The problem is that I have rarely seen a good implementation of this principle. The player either loses too much and restarts, or nothing happens. In my opinion, the best option is when every important moment associated with the player's moral choice is accompanied by a small loss if the character is injured during the story episode and vice versa.

Some pictures with animations for my game. In the process, you need to learn to understand the amount of work that will have to be done for each idea. If you want another character, be prepared to make a bunch of animations, if you want an extra line of dialogue, be prepared to translate it. Especially you have to think twice when you make clothes for a character in a cage or with ribbons. Then it becomes much more difficult to draw motion animation.

The survival horror genre has proven itself well. Recently, Resident evil 4 remake was released, and many people like it. It is interesting that the formula of survival horror games has not changed much since 1996, when Resident evil 1 was released. I decided to make my survival horror game on the Rpg maker engine. There aren't many games of this genre on it, and there are very few quality ones. Of course, this means making not just a walking simulator, but a game with full-fledged game design elements of this genre, such as free-to-explore locations, a combat system, resource management, etc. And, of course, add something original, so it doesn't slip into self-replication of other existing Rpg maker games. If you are interested then...

I tried to convey the atmosphere of hopelessness, abandonment and liminal spaces in the game. I like to go for a walk in cloudy weather. It allows me to find very good inspiration for different ideas and relax. It was quite difficult to capture the atmosphere of these photos in a two-dimensional game, but I think I did it, especially since most of the tilesets were based on default assets from RPG maker mv, I just modified them a lot in Photoshop. In the future I will show even more photos, I have a large collection.

Materialization of memories
I am an indie developer from Ukraine. My game will be released in May. I decided to make the strangest game on the rpg maker. The one that could enter the top ten. I started developing the game shortly before the war, and 2022 was the most difficult year for many, and I'm surprised that I was able to finish my work. Of course, current events also affected my game. There are many satirical elements in it... but that would be spoilers. In general, I recommend that you check it out, and I can almost guarantee that my game will leave an unforgettable experience.
