MODNOTE: I know that it’s been a few years, but I’m getting back into the swing of things.  Since more people follow this blog than any of my side-blogs, please allow me to direct your attention to @severed-prophecy.  As always, you can direct any questions or comments to @toxic-spill.

MODNOTE: Sorry guys, but I just don’t have the free time or motivation to run this blog at present.  I’ve spent the past few weeks sick with A) a stomach bug and B) pneumonia, and now class is starting back up.  What free time I would have this semester is going to be taken up by practicum work, so...yeah.

I’ll be graduating after this semester, and I’m going to wind up taking a lengthy break afterwards before I go forward towards my bachelors degree.  I’ll be sure to revisit the prospects of running the blog at that point.

My apologies to everyone.  If you wish to speak with me, please direct an ask to @toxic-spill so that we can work out some alternative means of communication.

So why are you pink? Is that a lady thing? Because Phrysians are color-coded. You can't see it, but my shell isn't actually that boney white everyone says it is.

“Y’know, I think I’m closer to purple than pink,” she says, crossing her arms and looking thoughtful for a moment.  “To answer your question, though, nah.  Jovians come in all sorts of colors, and there’s no correlation between coloration and gender.”

“…so what color is your shell?”

“Uh.  Have you ever seen me out of my armor?  How many colors can you see?  I know of six primary colors.”

Gandrayda shrugs.  “I can see a lot further into the short end of the spectrum than a human can, and if I’ve ever seen you out of your armor I’ve forgotten about it.”

The energy burns deep into it’s armored hide, scouring it with seething steaming marks along it’s back. The thing loses it’s footing among the horde of it’s masters, tangling them up in it’s awkward dance. 

Gandrayda’s given the thing an Achilles heel, at least by Samus’s reckoning. All the better to take it down with. 

“Where the HELL did you e-You know what, I’m not gonna question it.”

And Samus didn’t have time. It shook itself off and prepared for another go. This time she’d be ready. It was more vulnerable in the cauterized zones now.  

“The pirates never build just one of anything, Samus -- you should know this by now!” she says, charging up the dark cannon for another shot.  As effective as it is, it certainly gobbles up a lot of her power with each shot.  “Now if you’d be so kind as to shoot the damned thing, that would be really awesome of you!”

It’s spines bristled when it caught their scent. It leaped forward onto it’s twin sets of arms and charged like an armored silver-back gorilla, screeching an ear-bleeding screech. Samus took a defensive stance and let her free arm rest on her cannon. It’s armor was thick and stony, but still made of flesh and bone. It would burn and melt all the same. But it would take assistance.

“We’re gonna have to get creative here. How well do you think you can replicate that?”

Gandrayda was suddenly in a position where she didn’t particularly want to reveal some of the limitations of her shapeshifting, but she honestly didn’t have a choice.  “It’s too big!” she says, through clenched teeth.  Well, whatever plan Samus has, it’s not likely to work now -- she’ll have to take some initiative.

She activates the dark beam module inside her weapon, and the assault rifle promptly reconfigures itself into a cannon-type weapon of some sort.  It looks fairly heavy, yet Gandrayda swings it to bear with ease and discharges something that Samus likely hasn’t seen in years: a coruscating glob of dark energy intended to tangle that bastard up.

“Cucumbers, Dray. Cucumbers…”

“Forget cucumbers, Samus.  That way madness lies.  Stick with metal, it’s more honest about its intentions.”

Before Samus had time to unleash the usual obscene tirade, something large bellowed. The Pirates had sent in one of their pets, a big unwieldy thing no doubt spliced together from the genetic material of several large predator animal. The thing shook with bloodlust, knocking back and even consuming some of it’s creators in a ravenous hunger. 

Then it sniffed the air and took one look at them. 

Well, that’s a thing that happened.  Gandrayda sighs as she watches the creature’s introductory rampage, realizing now that the idea of a quick escape has been more or less snuffed out.  “I don’t suppose you’re packing anything thermonuclear in that arm cannon, are you?” she asks, knowing that Samus isn’t exactly armed with that much firepower. Probably.

Put the drink down, Samus. Clearly you’ve had enough.
