You know what? I'm going to make vampires whimper even more now!
the foundation of loustat is inequal and screwy from the start bc louis doesnt trust anyone to love him unconditionally except lestat, his mom rejected him. Society rejected him. He lost his brother, his sister. But lestat, for all his shenanigans, wont leave him. Not emotionally, he loves him truly and completely and louis craves that. And thats why when lestat drops Louis its the ultimate betrayal bc no matter how much they hurt one another louis still trusts lestat to love him unconditionally. Not reject any part of him. But when louis rejects lestat over and over and then threatens to leave him lestat reaches his limit. And rejects him back. And their relationship is forever altered. But louis still doesnt trust anyone else to love him like that, not claudia i.e "L: "I loved her!" A: "But she didnt love you! Not like he did not like i do" and definitely not armand armand expects louis to be good and therefore makes louis feel like he cant be bad, which he believes he is deep down and resents armand for it. Lestat doesnt push louis to behave better, or love him more, sometimes he wants him to behave worse. It's part of why louis doesnt want armand to know he loves him at the beginning of their relationship i.e madeleine at the restaurant, because he thinks it will only result in armand expecting more from him. - the reason he doesnt say I love you to lestat is bc he doesnt really want to love him, not bc he doesnt and not bc he thinks lestat will use it against him.

jk I probably won't remember to come back tomorrow (today? it's 330 am) so you get the unpolished version
ok so I was gone a lil bit longer than intended ..got sick Again in Jan for 3 weeks, getting a little tired of this ..practiced sobriety for 2 months. wish I could say I felt better / slept better / felt renewed & refreshed, etc etc but the truth is I did not particularly enjoy it. was an interesting experiment though ..QUINNESOTAAAAAAAAAAA ..have bought a truly horrifying amount of books in the last couple months. I am excited about so many of them. hopefully I will eventually read them. at the rate I've been reading it'll only take me likeâŚâŚâŚ. 75 years. going to create a 2026 reading list with assigned weekly books, see if having a rigid list solves anything. ..I wish I could talk more about TBC, there are so many parts I want to share. .."how long is wretchedly long???" well last time I checked we were at 135K and there's probably 50k left to go unless I trim it down any. (unlikely. joy of being self-published is no one can tell me to stfu.) so far we've been pretty even-stevens on POV breakdowns. picking POVs is sometimes the hardest part of writing this set. example a: the chapter I've spent the last four weeks on has changed POVs 6 times. I've rewritten it so many times it has its own "cuts" file separate from the main one. ..the news is horrific! evil people keep winning! keeping faith in humanity is getting a bit difficult these days, but if we give up on ourselves & each other then what else do we have to carry us through
Lestat and Louis through the years
I wanted to forget him, and yet it seemed I thought of him always. It was as if the empty nights were made for thinking of him. And sometimes I found myself so vividly aware of him it was as if he had only just left the room and the ring of his voice were still there. And somehow there was a disturbing comfort in that, and, despite myself, Iâd envision his face - not as it had been the last night in the fire, but on other nights, that last evening he spent with us at home, his hand playing idly with the keys of the spinet, his head tilted to one side. A sickness rose in me more wretched than anguish when I saw what my dreams were doing. I wanted him alive! In the dark nights of eastern Europe, Lestat was the only vampire Iâd found.Â
Interview With The Vampire (1976)
"But why, Lestat? â he asked a little suspiciously. "Why the danger, the risk? After all, you have done it. You have come back. Youâre stronger than ever. You have the old fire as if it had never been lost, and you know how precious this is, this will simply to go on. Why risk it immediately? Have you forgotten what it was like when we had the world all around us, and no one could hurt us except ourselves? â  Â
âIs this an offer, Louis? Have you come back to me, as lovers say?â His eyes darkened and he looked away from me. Â Â
âIâm not mocking you, Louis,â I said.
âYouâve come back to me, Lestat,â he said evenly, looking at me again. âWhen I heard the first whispers of you at Draculaâs Daughter, I felt something that I thought was gone forever- â He paused. But I knew what he was talking about. He had already said it.
The Vampire Lestat (1985)
I smiled. I kissed him suddenly, thrilled by the warmth of him, the soft pliant feel of his  near  human  skin.  God,  how  I  hated  the  whiteness  of  my  fingers  touching  him,  fingers that could have crushed him now effortlessly. I wondered if he even guessed.
There was so much I wanted to say to him, to ask him. Yet I couldnât find the words really, or a way to begin. He had always had so many questions; and now he had his answers,  more  answers  perhaps  than  he  could  ever  have  wanted;  and  what  had  this  done to his soul? Stupidly I stared at him. How perfect he seemed to me as he stood there waiting with such kindness and such patience. And then, like a fool, I came out with it.
âDo you love me now?â I asked.
He smiled; oh, it was excruciating to see his face soften and brighten simultaneously when he smiled. âYes,â he said.
The Queen of the Damned (1988)
He grew reflective again and very sad. It almost hurt me to look at him. I wanted to grab him by the shoulders and shake him, but that would only have made him furious.
âI love you,â he said softly.
I was amazed.
âYouâre always looking for a way to triumph,â he continued. âYou never give in. But there is no way to triumph. This is purgatory weâre in, you and I. All we can be is thankful that it isnât actually hell."Â
The Tale of The Body Thief (1992)
"Come home with me,â he said. Such a human voice. So kind. âThereâs time to come here and reflect. Wouldnât you rather be home, in the Quarter, amongst our things?â
If anything in the world could have truly comforted me, he would have been the thingâwith just the beguiling tilt of his narrow head or the way that he kept looking at me, protecting me obviously with a confidential calm from what he must have feared for me, and for him, and perhaps for all of us.
My old familiar gentleman friend, my tender enduring pupil, educated  as truly by Victorian ways of courtesy as ever by me in the ways of being a monster.
Memnoch the Devil (1995)
âIâll spend the next few evenings with Lestat,â Louis said quietly. âI want to read to him. He doesnât respond but he doesnât stop me. Youâll know where to find me when Merrick returns.â
âDoes he never say anything to you?â I asked, regarding Lestat.
âSometimes he speaks, just a little. Heâll ask for Mozart perhaps, or that I read him some old poetry. But in the main, heâs as you see him yourself, unchanged.â He paused, then looked directly at the sky. âI want to be alone with him for a few nights, I suppose, before Merrick comes back.â
His tone had a finality to it, and a sadness that touched me to the quick. He was saying farewell to Lestat, thatâs what he was doing, and I knew that Lestatâs slumber was so deep and so troubled, that even such a dreadful message from Louis might not rouse him at all.
Merrick (2000)
I stopped. I put my arm around him. I held him close to me.
âIâm Lestat,â I said in a low voice. âYour Lestat. Iâm the same Lestat youâve always known, and no matter how Iâm changed, Iâm still that same being.â
âI know,â he said warmly.
I kissed him. I pressed my lips to his and I held this kiss for a long silent moment. And then I gave in to a silent wave of feeling, and I took him in my arms. I held him tight against me. I felt his unmistakable silken skin, his soft shining black hair. I heard the blood throbbing in him, and time dissolved, and it seemed I was in some old and secret place, some warm tropical grotto weâd once shared, ours alone in some way, with the scent of sweet olive blossoms and the whisper of moist breeze.
âI love you,â I whispered.
In a low intimate voice, he answered: âMy heart is yours.â
Prince Lestat (2014)
âVery well,â Louis said.
âWhat do you mean?â
He shrugged and smiled.
âIâll come if you want me. Iâll come and Iâll stay and Iâll be your companion if you want. I donât know why you want this or how long youâll want it, or what itâs going to be like, being with you and watching all your antics up close, and trying to be of help and not knowing how to be of help, but Iâll come. Iâm tired of fighting it; I give up; Iâll come.â
I couldnât believe Iâd heard right. I stared at him as helplessly as I had in the hallway of the townhouse when Iâd first seen him, trying to grasp what he had said.
He leaned close to me, and he put his hand on my arm. âââWither thou goest, I will go, and where thou lodgest, I will lodge; thy people shall be my peopleâ; and because I have no other god and never will, you shall be my god.â
Prince Lestat and The Realms of Atlantis (2016)
âWhen I was finally led down the stairs, Louis came with me. In the darkened passage before my resting place, he embraced me and held tight to me, his lips pressed to my ear. I was aware of my hands moving over his hair, embracing his neck, drawing him ever closer, in a way I had never done in our long years in New Orleans. We joined in the posture of lovers, brothers, fathers with sons.
âI love you with my whole soul, and I will always love youâ, he confided to me. âYou are my life. I have hated you for that and love you now so much that youâve been my instructor in loving. And believe me when I say you will survive because you always have and you always will.â
I couldnât answer. I knew I loved him more than words could say, but I couldnât respond.â

I hope that someday society will let go of the "it's horrible what psychiatry put this person through, cause they weren't ACTUALLY insane" trope/storyline and actually recognize that psychiatric abuse is just as horrible, wrong and traumatizing when it happens to really mentally ill people.
