Bio
The king of missed connections or Gavin as he likes to be called was born in Los Angeles to unknown parents who had abandoned him when he was a baby. He was then raised in foster care up until he was 10 before the Carrigans had adopted him. While foster living had been rough to the point of abusive; being adopted in a loving family had been exactly what he needed. Growing up in Aurora Bay on top of that made everything seem like the dream life. At a young age Gavin showed an aptitude for music. His father had been a lead singer of a famous band at one point but also tried to balance it in order to raise a family and live the quiet life. That history though allowed Gavin to be surrounded with music. He would sit in his dads office with the floor covered in classic vinyl records, instruments, and sheet music. From there a love of music had been born and cultivated into a genuine skill. The young man lived and breathed music. He could tell you the session musicians on albums from nearly forty years ago, what year a song charted, and get into a serious debate about how the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame was just a popularity contest and half the people being shut out had deserved a place years ago. The guy knew his music. While he was decent at a number of instruments, his real skill lied in singing and he figured the minute he turned 18 he was going to run off and become a huge star.
As Gavin grew older he became more social, flirtatious, but also kind of slutty. He had a way of being the most charming guy in a room when he wanted to be and he often did. He also had a habit of running his mouth too when something frustrated him or he had the urge to argue. Gavin’s teen angst was manifesting with issue’s about where he had come from and why he had been abandoned for so long only to have been harmed in foster care. He may have a happy perfect family now, but there were still wounds that needed to heal and he never found the right channels to get the help he needed.
Meanwhile his promiscuous behavior got him into a lot of trouble in town, since he was caught more than once sneaking out of bedroom windows after a hookup. The reason why he was acting a bit reckless was because he was (in his own words ) a coward. He was in love with his best friend for as long as he could remember. There was just one problem; she didn’t know he was in love with her. Every time he built up the nerve to say something, other factors would prevent him from doing so. Whether it was one of them having a boyfriend /girlfriend or a family issues that didn’t need declarations of love but genuine friendship, Gavin sat back and did nothing. He assumed she was never going to find out because his own promiscuous behavior didn’t really give much of an indication that he had wanted to settle down with anyone. By the time they turned 18 however, he asked her to come to LA with him, but was denied. She had agreed to marry her longtime boyfriend instead, but she wished him well and promised to visit.
His life in LA was the perfect distraction and he successfully auditioned to be the lead singer of a band called Black Lodge ; who quickly found success. They got lucky in bypassing a lot of the usual rounds of playing the strip that a lot of other local bands would do. The band was just that good and Gavin’s singing and the bands songwriting were a lethal combination. However there was always a problem when you got famous; more people wanted to pull threads and destroy the good things in your life and Gavin got into a bit of controversy, when they heard his last name. He was called a nepotism baby, because his father had been a big name in the music industry. The man had a Grammy sitting in his office from his producing days. It made it seem like Gavin’s success hadn’t actually been earned but rather given to him. Nevermind the fact that he never told anyone who his dad had been in the industry. It already made people start to question the legitimacy of his success. But as the money started to roll in Gavin started to care less. The only thing that could shake him was when his best friend would visit and she would talk about her husband and how their marriage was going. He was not the type move in on his best friend when still in a relationship, so he buried his feelings again and started to sleep around again.
He would work hard and play hard and when he wasn’t on stage or recording an album he was partying and living in excess. His promiscuous behavior getting him in trouble again. Knowing he had to get over his best friend, Gavin began dating a model that had been a mutual connection from Aurora Bay and their relationship became just as fascinating as his career. He had been the type to sleep around but when he was official with someone; he stayed loyal to a fault. However as soon as things started to get serious with him and his girlfriend his personal life got more complicated. Black Lodge were about to release a third album;one they believed was the best work to the point where critical and commercial success seemed imminent. Then two things happened at once. First his best friend revealed they were getting a divorce. Gavin was supportive and did his best to stick by her side when she needed him, but when the second news hit and his girlfriend revealed they were pregnant; Gavin realized his window of opportunity closed, especially after hearing of his best friends own crush on him.
He had to step up and do the right thing. He thought about how his father gave up fame for family. He thought about how hard it would be to be away from his child and he decided to move out of LA and back to Aurora Bay. He wanted to be around family again, but wasn’t sure if he could give up music entirely. As his girlfriend gave birth he had a number one rock album and his life seemed more confusing than ever. He was unsure what to do next. Gavin went to his father for advice and ultimately came to a decision; he was leaving the band and taking a job in town. He never knew his birth parents, but he knew his father was one of the most honorable and best people he knew. He always wanted to be like him, because he wasn’t sure of his identity before he had been adopted. He proposed to his girlfriend and soon they were married and the following things occurred in succession. He went back to school as the young family lived off of his previous wealth from the band. Eventually he became a music teacher at the local university and all seemed like a normal and happy existence. He missed singing but he was happy to be a dad, husband, and to be able to share his love of music with others.
But Gavin was never good at timing right?
One evening he came home from work and found his wife waiting for him. He felt like he was in the middle of an intervention, but when the truth was revealed, Gavin kind of wished i had been one. His wife revealed that she had an affair when they were dating and that his son wasn't biologically his own. Deep down the paternity of his son didn’t matter because after eight years his son was his son. What did hurt was the lie. That he had been left out of the conversation and abandoned. That somehow his own childhood had cycled back into feeling like he’d been abandoned again. He knew that wasn’t really the story, but the emotional wounds he had as a child reopened. His fathers words echoed in his ears and regardless if they shared the same blood or not, family would always be family, his son would always see him as his father and he was never going to shake that foundation in his sons life.
The truth of the matter was that he couldn’t make it work with his wife anymore though. The duo parted and shared custody. Gavin could have lost parental rights due to the fact that his son wasn’t his biologically, but due to the good faith his past fame had given him, the idea of it getting out how he’d been screwed over, was too big of a scandal to let out. Gavin had gotten a bit of an attitude now that his entire life had been revealed to be a lie and it revealed a more abrasive aspect to his personality. Things weren’t going great for Gavin but he always tried to make the best of it. He still loved his son and loved teaching, but something seemed missing, something that will pull him out of his misplaced anger. With his divorce going public in the media, it’s put him back on the radar and venues are curious on whether or not he wants to sing once again. The call of the music stage called back and he wanted to answer the call. He isn’t planning on giving up teaching but it’s nice to be able to perform again. There was still one last thing missing. Was now the right time to open up to his best friend? Or were they doomed to circle around one another for the rest of time?
