my 2 cents on this discourse as someone who has as good as left this community

several months ago i prefaced one of my posts with “i really don’t wanna bring discourse to this community”. i still don’t, but seeing all the posts surrounding this topic has really tickled my Discourse Bone™ and i can’t bring myself to keep quiet about this any longer.

this community is, to be quite frankly, absolutely horrible towards anyone who doesn’t have straight cis ships.

some time ago, i created a post with the urls of selfshippers who’ve made blatantly homophobic remarks and who believe being gay is a sin. for weeks that post circulated around, most people took note, stopped following them, blocked them, etc. and now? now all their posts are gaining traction again. there were exactly 0 consequences for their bigoted behavior.

i’ve gotten countless hate anons simply for being a guy who selfships with other guys. i’ve been called a fag. i’ve been told my kind should just die. i’ve been told that i don’t belong in this community, i’ve been told that i’m a whiny bitch for speaking up about this, i’ve been told that i don’t deserve to speak up about this as ‘my kind’ already has plenty of communities for itself. i’ve seen gay guys get bullied out of this community simply for being a guy, simply for being gay, simply for speaking up about this issue and venting about it on their own blog, in their own safe space, which is for them.

and now i see people complaining that lgbt selfshippers ‘complain’ about straight, cis selfshippers.

let me ask you something.

have you ever been bullied out of the community for having a straight ship? have you ever been called slurs for shipping with someone of the opposite gender? have you ever stopped to think about the fact that somehow, for some reason, it is so much easier to gain followers, asks, interactions, people who care about your ships, for you, as a straight cis selfshipper, than it is for the rest of us?

and that’s just speaking of this community, let alone the world outside of it. let alone the society catered only to The Norm™, catered only to you. the place where you can get murdered for being gay, trans, anything other than straight and cis. where literally every single piece of media we have portrays cishet people, cishet relationships. where you don’t have to stop and plan out your every move, live in fear of having your identity exposed, of being yourself. where in the year of our lord twenty fucking nineteen there are still people calling my whole existence a sin, only to claim that they are not homophobic, that they love me despite my sins, all the while perpetuating a mindset that has gotten and will, in the future, get so many of my peers harrassed, tortured, murdered.

please think about that the next time you complain about lgbt selfshippers venting about cishet people. please think about that the next time you turn your back on lgbt selfshippers rightfully pointing out all the issues in this community. please think about that, and if you can still bitch about it with a healthy conscience, then congratulations, you are exactly the type of people we complain about.

if you see a post, just a general vent, and you feel as if that post is addressing you, as if that post is a personal attack on your being, then maybe, just maybe, you are one of those people being vented about. and maybe, just maybe, you can look at yourself, reflect on yourself, and do your part to make this community a happier, healthier place for us all.

or, you know, you can continue bitching about it in a tumblr post and drive god knows how many other people out of this community.
