It's so small that you barely see it. But the look on Agatha's face in the last gif says so much more than any words ever could.
She looks so incredulous. And then this. When Rio actually leaves.
You can see that she never expected that. All these centuries of this run and hide, Rio never really left. Even when she wasn't Agatha knew she was still by her side. So Rio really leaving her totally got her off guard and you can clearly see it.
Because the first person she ever really had, the only one who never turned on her, the one real constant she's always had in her life left her. Only because she asked her to but Agatha still never thought she would really do that.
She's a few steps away from getting what she always thought she wanted and realized that she never did.
#it’s this paralleled with Agatha’s ‘If you do this I will hate you forever’ and Rio’s almost#timid and fearful nod of resignation#Agatha’s words sharp with extra acidity because don’t we always know the weakest spots to strike#of those who have dared to love us and make themselves most#vulnerable to us?#it says a lot about what Agatha knows of Rio when Rio agrees here; Rio doesn’t adorn herself#with lies the way Agatha does#Agatha knows Rio will follow through on this and give her what she is asking for#and it’s only at this moment - the moment when Agatha knows she’ll get what she’s asking for - that she’s absolutely terrified to get it#oh to be Agatha and to ask things of Death and get things nobody else in history has gotten#oh to be Agatha and to ask for something out of spite and with the intent of hurting and knowing full-well that Death can follow through on#promises - only for Agatha to realize this is in fact not what she wanted#Agatha is so smart and she gets in the way of her most brilliant schemes bc the variables she always fails to factor in#are her enormous unaddressed feelings that will very much factor into even the best laid plans (via @gleerant)
