One issue with long term franchises that you can't explain well to annoying nerds is, they're a known market share. You are, like it or not, presumed to be buying anything that comes out from a certain franchise you like. They presume that, no matter how much you'll complain, you'll still buy into this. When I was older I was a premed student and tutored physiology, I loved that, because I loved how the systems work together and figuring out how things could go wrong with them

My absolute favorite podcast is The Clinical Problem Solvers, which is basically if House were real, and medically sound, and if the people doing it were genuinely good people with a passion for helping learners and a humility about always learning even though sometimes you listen to them reason out their thoughts and it’s just absolutely brilliant

I gave up on going to med school because the culture of medical training and even the career itself is so toxic and exploitative and so geared towards burnout that I decided as fascinated as I was by it, that’s not how I wanted to spend my life

But sometimes I still listen to the podcast, and get giddy with how interesting it is, and how impressive and clean the logic is.

And sometimes I’m listening to a case and I think, wow, it’s a good thing I didn’t become a doctor, because I would be the kind of person who would walk into an exam room and see some unique presentation of rectal bleeding or something and go WOW, THAT’S SO COOL
