Passions of the Mind (1991) A.S. Byatt
autistic monk finds god trapped in a tortoise gotta be my new fav genre of book, i think
Anyway happy pride and happy Darling Bud release day to Ivy Silverton sorry about the serial killer bio mum, the dead adopted mum, the dead bio dad, the groomer step dad, the useless solicitor godmother, the absent american uncle, the closeted girlfriend, the gold digging australian aunt and step uncle and step cousin, the serial killer mexican step dad, the violent ten year old half brother, and traitor house rabbit.
some hyper famous artists like Van Gogh transcend overratedness and become underrated because they're so normalized. Like I'll look at a van Gogh and I'm like wait this really is amazing you guys don't get it
Shakespeare is like this
Every time I see a Van Gogh that’s not one of his better known pieces it absolutely blows me away
Have you seen this shit my liege? smh unreal
modern media in a nutshell
Darling Bud by C.J. Skuse arrived this morning on my Waterstones pre-order, three full days ahead of release, and I read it in less than four hours 😊😊😊 it was both great and horrible and I will never feel the same about "Totally Devoted to You"
Also I need a parallel between Ava and and Deborah (Hacks S5E10) wandering round the Louvre and Louis and Armand (IWTV S2E04) wandering round the Louvre
You know I swear I learnt what Dignitas was way too early in life probably from like Have I Got News For You in the 2000s bc as soon as Deborah said "Europe" I knew what exactly what the a-plot of the finale was going to be. Ava should have gone back to buy that Meissen cruet tho. Genuinely so glad they didn't give it the downer ending and I know the shippers will be pleased with stuff like the club scene etc. Wish we had seen more of the Who's Cooking Dinner? reboot tho. DJ loudly yelling "THAT'S MY MOM!" with pride that's amazing aww, and Marcus getting full credit for being a visionary for Deborah as a brand. And good for Jimmy. He finally found a way to ethically blackmail 😊 Kayla should run Bob Lipka over with a pink Lambo and Randi can help her dispose of the body
Le Figaro have a newly published photograph from inside Notre Dame shortly before the roof collapsed, as molten lead fell into the nave. (+)
If you don't get off the phone with someone a load of timezones away with a goofy exchange like "goodnight!" "Have a good afternoon at work!" You lack whimsy
William Cowper, a Revaluation (2015), Neil Curry
Curry is determined to make William Cowper look like a dick for saying this, but honestly, nah. If your mother dies at eighty-fucking-seven during the 18th century and you have the nerve to go crying to the guy who very famously lost his mother when he wasn't even in long trousers, and the resulting trauma was a huge factor in his highly publicised lifelong debilitating mental health problems, I think he has every right to call you lucky and offer you no fucking sympathy actually, read the fucking room and don't trigger your traumatised friend actually.
Curry even goes on to say "wow what an exaggeration to say you think of your dead mum at least weekly if not daily for decades that's such an exaggeration".... both of his (Curry's) parents were definitely alive when he wrote that, and if they weren't they were either shitty or died peacefully and old. Like. You have no fucking clue what early parent loss is like, do you? And Cowper didn't even have IFS or CBT or EMDR to help get over it he literally just had prayer, no wonder he had to go to an asylum twice and for years at a time.
Me: do you think you could make an SPF which doesn't feel sticky and greasy all day?
Sunscreen manufacturers: nah, sorry, best we can do is make it permanently stain fabrics of any colour and give it a completely different chemical make up to sweat so you can't remove one without setting the other

it's weird that so few people seem to know that mormons largely run the troubled teen industry. ppl will imply that I'm religiously intolerant when I badmouth mormonism and it's like well. they child trafficked me. so. lol
