So, here is the list of activities that I did throughout the summer in 2019:

The activities in bold represents the one that is related to my graphic design practice which I can include in my cv/portfolio. Overall, I think I did quite a lot of productive stuff during the summer but of course, I wished I did more especially related to my career path. Adding to the list, I met some new people that share the same interest as me and I learnt from them through their stories.
My experience being a course rep
During my first year, I have decided to become a course rep. The tasks I am responsible for doing are getting feedback from my peers about their experience in university and how to improve the facilities for the students. This is great opportunity for me to know the staffs and other students from my year or the year above.
Brief: To design a podcast cover for a peer
How I approach the brief: I designed a podcast cover with the guidance of my peer. She wanted the illustration to look realistic and 3d and this is what I’ve come up with.
Brief: Design a book publication based on Coventry
My theme: Flowers around Coventry
How I approach this brief: The book publication is divided into drawing/mark-making, color/pattern, sculpture, data visualization, photography, and cinematography. I put this book together by bookbinding. This project was very fun to create as it was very open and free about creativity, in the sense where we can pick what kind of material we want use and how we want to create it.
Brief: Design a poster for Coventry Refugee & Migrant Centre (CRMC) festival
How I approach this brief: Based on my group concept, I designed this poster for the festival. I wanted it to show unity thus the picture and colour spreads behind it.
Group brief: Brand a festival for Coventry Refugee & Migrant Centre (CRMC)
My task: Design a website for Coventry Refugee & Migrant Centre (CRMC)
How I approach this brief: I ask the clients questions about what they want to see on the website. They gave some websites for reference that is related to what they are doing/want is to look like. Since the target audience is very open, I try to keep it as simple to read and navigate.
Brief: Design an annual report for Coventry Refugee & Migrant Centre (CRMC)
How I approach this brief: Since this was a group project, we discussed and divided the tasks. I contributed with this part of the project (annual report) by doing research about interesting annual report covers that is suitable for our concept which is using different colors and shapes to represent different ethnic groups of people to show unity.
I went for this Pop Art showcase a few days ago and I just keep on forgetting to write a post about it. I thought it was interesting and some pieces were very inspirational especially the research they did about their own work which was just fascinating. I would recommend anyone, if they have the opportunity to visit any art gallery/show, to go for it because it’s really interesting to understand someones point of view about a piece and the story behind it.
How does the presence of flowers affect its surroundings
These are some pages from my book/journal that we have to do for semester 1. These pictures were taken around the area in Coventry while I was taking a walk. My theme for this project was flowers.
This is my final paper folding outcome. I just went for a simple yet effective fold and it shows the drama salon text just like how I wanted it to.
This is my paper folding progress for my poster and catalogue. I wanted the main title to be shown in the front so I didn’t think this fold would let me achieve that.
This marks my last week for semester 2. Hand in submission is today and I will just have to wait for me to do my presentation which is on 2nd May at 12:00pm. Compared to the previous semester, I think I was a bit more laid back because there was only 2 modules this time. I have put my effort for this submission but I wish I have put more effort about the research but overall I am satisfied with my submission. After my submission I would like to start finding online competitions that I could join to challenge myself.
This is my final website frames for my individual website assignment that I created using html and css. Learning coding for semester 2 has gotten me interested in coding. I just wish I put more thought about my pages but I am very happy with the outcome as it was my first time creating an actual website from scratch.
During the last week of semester 2, we had a talk about placements and Global Engagement. Graphic design to me is life because it has give me purpose or at least a goal in life to what I want to do in the future. I want to work in a branding company in either Japan, South Korea or UK in the future. At this moment, doing coding has pique my interest and I would love to try design album covers in the future. I hope to be at a more confident place compared to where I am now regarding my work and skills for next year and the other years to come. I think after accumulating enough experiences studying and working abroad, I hope to return back to my home country to open my own company to contribute to the creative industry in my country, along providing opportunities for other designers.
During semester 1, we had the opportunity to go for a musuem trip to Oxford. From this trip, I got to strenghten my friendship with my coursemates and explore Oxford during my free time.
