Code Geass Genesic Record
There has been a new Code Geass related trademark application submitted in Japan as of June 1st, 2020.
“Code Geass Genesic Record” is the first Code Geass trademark submitted since 2006; ahead of the series' debut.
However, the submission itself isn’t an indication of anything beyond the fact it was something that was submitted.
Where is the Proof?
The trademark was submitted to https://www.j-platpat.inpit.go.jp.
You can see the submission itself here: https://www.j-platpat.inpit.go.jp/t0201
(edit: somehow a direct link does not bring it up but that is the URL that pops up when you look at コードギアス trademarks)
You can see what this site is for below, along with screenshots of what is listed under Code Geass trademarks (search コードギアス). There is also an English side to this site.
Note that the last trademark submission was June 7, 2006. This latest submission was June 1st, 2020.
What Does This Mean Then?
We don't know What This Means other than the trademark application has been submitted.
This does NOT mean its an actual project (note that R2, Re;surrection, Akito, or any other media spinoffs don't show up). Could be an overall name for Something, a separate series, or nothing. It doesn't mean anything until it means something. It also might be nothing in the end.
As of July 17, 2020, the application submission is waiting for approval. I will edit this post if and when the status changes.
Trademarks are submitted for any number of reasons and it is not uncommon for them to be submitted far in advance before any project/product/meaning is attributed to it.
When Will There Be An Announcement Then?
No clue!
Our best bet for any announcement is on Lelouch's birthday (December 5th) because they love to drop huge announcements or releases on that date. They’ve selected this date in past years for the sale of the Illustrations Relation art book, announcing Akito the Exiled, and the sale of the Re;surrection home release)
What Could/Would “Code Geass Genesic Record” be about?
Genesic = Genesis = Origin/ Creation / Beginning
It might be a trademark for media relating to an origin story but the subject is still a mystery.
C.C.? L.L.? The origin of Geass? A retelling of the series with their original planned storyline separate from R2? Something else?
Or perhaps it is an umbrella term for future released anthology-style Geass stories/storylines separate from the original series.
Time will tell. The only thing I know for sure is that there is a 10 year plan for future Code Geass projects helmed by Taniguchi and Ōkouchi that includes Lelouch (see source list below for info).
I don’t have enough info to make any educated projections but I do like the idea of this being a way to make a clear cut between the original Code Geass story and this new alternate continuing timeline.
This is my personal speculation based on only the name at this time (July 17, 2020)
