For the people who so enjoyed my last Colbert Report taping anecdote, the “Memories” function on Facebook just dug up another gem: June 18th, 2014 (aka around the time that Stephen’s departure/the show’s end date had already been widely announced but was still months away, allowing for peak silliness): Before the show during the Q&A, a member of the audience asked Stephen for one of his ties. Stephen immediately had someone on staff grab him one from wardrobe, signed it on his desk, shook the man’s hand and said, “Nine years and no one has asked me for a material possession. Your selfishness is refreshing.”

Stephen has zero empathy for “online writers”/hmph-you-mean-bloggers ;) who can’t get people to read their posts:
