 Ethos:

Homepage: I will also talk about my experience in this course by being completely honest to create more credibility. When talking about me, I will explain that I am a student from the University of Texas at El Paso and clearly state the purpose of the website.

Reflections: For this section, I will strive to have no grammatical/punctuation errors when writing the reflection for each assignment.

Logos:

Homepage: The content and structure of the homepage will represent the logo appeal. I will make sure all of my writing is clear and understandable.

Reflections: For this section, I will use graphics as examples/reflections of my writing to show how my assignment looked.

Pathos: 

Homepage: I will talk about me some of my interests and expectations for the class. I will talk about what that I enjoyed about the class assignments and some of the times that I struggled with the material. 

Reflections: Since reflections are talking about my feelings towards the class and assignments, I will use emotional language when writing them. I will implement the emotions I felt throughout the class: proud, joyful, overwhelmed, confused, etc.

Section C: As a designer!

Ethos: 

I will set ethos by adding some of my contact information, social media, and a picture of myself. I am also, thinking about adding some screenshots, or quotes from the RWS e-book to have more credibility. 

Logos: 

 I will also make sure that my website is easy to navigate and proportional by creating several tabs and divisions to separate each section. I will focus on the structure of my website to make It look organized.

Pathos:  

To appeal by emotion, I will use a professional style to design my website. I will include visuals both academic and personal to make it more personalized and to help the audience know me a little better. Of course, I will use emotional language when writing each section.

Your website seems to be going good. The colors you use can also show pathos since colors also symbolize emotions. You have a very good idea of where you want everything and how you will incorporate ethos, pathos and logos when it comes to writing and designing the website.

Section A: My website

I started my website but once I tried to save it and publish it Wix did not let me

Section B: As a writer

Ethos is providing credibility, as a writer I will establish my credibility in the home page by describing myself. Mentioning the school I am attending and for how long I have been attending will give the viewer a better idea of how credible I am. Having all the required information and no grammatical errors will also help build my ethos.

Pathos is providing emotion or as I like to remember it the pathway to your heart. I will be using pathos in my reflection because that is my personal experience and I will explain what i have learned throughout the course.

Logos I will be using logos in my writing of I have any facts or to keep my writing consistent. This will help me make sure my writing makes sense and has some kind of sequence.

Section C: As a designer

I will be using ethos in my design by providing a picture of myself and a contact tab so people can see that the website is real.

I will be providing pathos in my design by the colors and pictures. The colors of my website will not be distracting and the pictures depending on what I decide to put should show some type of emotion.

The alignment and grouping of my website will provide the logos appeal. This will help my paragraphs stay consistent. This will also help me make sure that the design relations to the text in some way.

Week 15 Website Analyzation

SECTION A:

1. In this particular website there is a sense of balance within website, but there is also a lot of information to obtain and comprehend all at once. The website is not really organized, and not appealing to the reader to continue to read the entire content. With it being disorganized it looks as if the creator of the website through all of the information together in a rush. 

2. Contrast is employed on this site by the use of it’s images on the website itself. The images are all different meaning by size, and color. Since the images are all the same shape making the images bigger, and readable is a good idea to make sure that the readers know about the point that is trying to get across, and to provide substantial evidence for any claim made on the website itself. 

3. The website does not really have a lot of consistency from the scale size of the images, to the sizing of the print on the website that is describing what the website is about. The size of the text is similar throughout most of the website until it gets to the end of it, becoming smaller and harder to read; causing a break in consistency for the whole website. 

4. The use of alignment and grouping in this website is decent, but can still be fixed with a little bit of adjustment, and condensing the images to make it look somewhat like an “electronic newspaper”. It would look more appealing to the eye and create a better understanding of the content. It would also help with the alignment on the website, and make everything flow better.

5. The effectiveness of the website would be better if the creator would have made the website more interactive, using links, or subheadings that you can click on to get more information. It excelled in getting to the point and providing examples and substantial evidence to back it up.

1. The balance of the website is much better than the first one in the sense that the creator made the website more interactive, and used white space to make it look spacious and appealing to the eye. 

2. Contrast is shown in the website with the use of images, and text also with the subheadings that are on the left of the website to help you navigate through the website more effectively. 

3. The use of consistency in this website is more effective and more noticeable than the other website. Each subheading and section of the website has it’s own title, and different information that flows with each topic that it is talking about at hand. 

4. The alignment and grouping on this website makes it look more professional, and spaced out; unlike the other website you can tell that this creator was more calm and relaxed than being rushed to finish the website.

5. The effectiveness of this site is more appealing, understandable, professional, and likely to catch more readers attention. It is helpful for the readers to be able to navigate through the website more freely instead of being limited.

SECTION B: 

1. To make sure that my website has enough balance, I will make sure that I use the proper amount of images all the same shape, size, and color. The text also needs to be the same size and font. 

2. Using contrast in my website would require for the images and the text to coincide with each other to look more professional, appealing to the eye, and to make it flow more easily.

3. I will focus on the consistency of my website by making sure that the images are all relatable to the topic that is at hand, the text is flowing throughout the website, and that the use of white space is equal.

4. Alignment and grouping is key to help my website look professional, have the readers intrigued to read my website, and what i have to offer them. It also helps with the website all flowing and coming together nicely. 

5. I will more a likely use black and white colors, due to the fact that i want my website to look professional, especially since it is going to be read and analyzed by a scholar (professor), and my fellow peers. 

6. By using these examples of websites, i will utilize them in the sense that i will know what to do correctly and what not to do in my own website.

Using the same colors throughout the website will also help the website look professional. Bright colors will be distracting and might make the website look messy or unprofessional. The size and style of the font will also help the website look neat if it is consistent throughout the website.

Week 15

Section A: Website A

1.) The website has balance between the pictures and text which makes the information easy to read. The colors are a bit distracting and not appealing to the eye.

2.) There is too much going on in the website that is is difficult to focus on one particular thing.

3.) The website uses the same font for the information but the colors differ. The colors used throughout the website are not the same shade of blue which makes it inconsistent.

4.) The alignment of the website does not change the headings are all centered while the information is adjusted to the right. The website uses bullet points to group the information.

5.) This website is organized and consistent when it comes to the information but the colors do not remain the same.

1.) The website has a good balance, the colors used are not bright so they do not distract the viewer.

2.) The body text is not the same size as the subheadings but it is the same style.

3.) The website is consistent when it comes to color and style. The colors stay the same throughout  the website and the style of the text stay the same as well.

4.) The alignment of the website is to the right and is read from top to bottom.

5.) This website is organized and consistent throughout.

Section B

1.) In order to ensure that my website is balanced I will make sure that the colors I use are not too bright so they can be appealing to the eye.

2.) I will contrast my website by making the headings and subheadings different sizes.

3.) I will keep my website consistent by using the same colors for the background and using the same style for the fonts.

4.) I will not use any weird alignments and align the text from top to bottom.

5.) For my website I will use dull colors so that the website is not too bright and distracting.

6.) I will make sure that my website is well designed by making sure that the information is no too small so it is legible. I will also make sure that there is a good ratio of pictures and text.

Creating a Plan of Action

A. Based on my schedule and what we have completed on my project, I will commit my work time to Thursdays and Fridays. But also this time will vary if I need to do more extensive work.

B. We will be meeting up as a group Wednesday after class and Thursdays from 10:30-2:50. As a group we might not take up that whole time but it depends on how much work we have and are able to complete on Wednesday.

C. Hopefully during our visits this week we will complete the poster. So by next Wednesday we can have our presentation done and begin practicing.

D. We all have the responsibility to bring the perspective from our Literature Reviews. The rest of the group members focused more diversity of the medical field. While my perspective was more on the results of not having a diverse field on the accessibility to healthcare. Which is why being able to connect all of our data we can finish both our poster and presentation in a timely manner.

E. The end of the semester is coming fast and with comes finals, term papers and such. Everybody is ready for it to be over and we just want to sleep. That is why I am concerned about time and scheduling but all will be well.

F. All my group members are obviously very passionate about their topic, so we are not lacking information or energy. I am sure we can work efficiently and be able to do a great job with our project.

Hopefully we do finish by this week so we can focus on the presentation. I think we are in a good spot right now considering the amount of work we have done. We need to put all our ideas together and we can do that this Wednesday when we get together.

Week 14: Creating a plan of action

I will commit to this project as much as I can. I will use my free time to work on this assignment and those days include the weekend and Mondays.

I will be meeting up with my group on Wednesdays after RWS and Thursdays from 10:30 to 2:50. I will be working alone when I do not finish my part of the assignment when we were in a group.

My part of the assignment is to write about the diversity of Hispanics in the nursing field, that is what I will be focusing on when I meet up with my group members on those days

In order complete my part of the project I will use the research from the research paper and apply it to the poster. If further research is needed to complete the project I will undergo the necessary steps in order to supplement my writing.

An aspect of this assignment that I am concerned about is time because we all manage our time differently. The project will get done on time but hopefully it will be done a few days before the due date so we have time to revise and edit the poster.

I am most comfortable with my group members and how the work is divided because it is evident that they have a very good work ethic and will get their part done on time.

week 13: research poster process

1. Analysis of DDT toxicity on Alzheimer’s Beta-amyloid Overexpression in Drosophila 

2. The requirements for this research poster and our research poster are similar in the sense that they needed a Intro (Abstract), Results, Methods and Materials a Conclusion, and the Sources as well. It differs by adding some other subtopics to their paper to give us more information on what we are trying to comprehend from this poster. 

3. The purpose of the research poster above is providing readers with information about DDT toxicity in Alzheimer’s Beta-amyloid overexpression in Drosophilia. They want to provide this information to make readers aware of this toxicity that is present in this certain topic to put spread general awareness. Yes this purpose is clearly shown because they provide an abstract and a background to inform us about the topic beforehand. 

4. This poster is intended for researches interested in this topic, patients that are going through this research proposal, or doctors that are trying to help the leading issue proposed in this research poster. Yes, it appeals to the audience, because it gives information needed in order to resolve this issue and help people learn about it as well. 

5. The research poster appeals to ethos by stating and including where the author or authors got their information from. In this case it is a credible source because it came from an actual research center, to where it is credible information coming from scholars that know what they are talking about.

6. It appeals to pathos in the sense that it grabs the attention of any family members or actual patients that are going through this issue, and are trying to find the solution to help end it. 

7. Finally it appeals to logos by knowing what they are talking about and making them sound professional, and educational. If something is written wrong people are less likely to read the information given, or will not have a clear understanding of the point that is trying to get across. 

SECTION B 

1. I will use this research poster as a guide of the layout of the actual research poster as far as white space, spacing, and content in each section. It will also influence me to makes sure that I get my point across in a professional and educational manner in order for other scholars, or readers to understand what the situation is. 

2. This will help me change my outline by rephrasing the information to make it more scholarly, provide background information on my topic, prove my topic with substantial evidence, and the way that this research poster looks; it stands out, has color, and just enough text to white space.

You compared and contrasted the requirements very well. When explaining who the audience was you did not just say researchers you gave examples of exactly who the audience would be. The examples you gave for ethos, pathos and logos were specific as well. I never thought abut using the example to make my poster sound professional and that would be very helpful.

Week 13

Section A:

1. Internet Inequality: The Impact of Home Internet Access on School Success

2. The poster has similar requirements to my research paper because it has information on the subject, results and a conclusion. The subheading titled “background” is the information need in order to explain the research poster which we will need in the poster we are creating. The layout of the poster is similar to the layout of the poster we are working on. There are a few differences between the posters such as the abstract and methodology.

3. The purpose of this poster is to persuade people to get internet at home because it will improve the success students have at school. The purpose is made clear in the title and then it is supported in the text.

4. The intended audience is adults who have children. The vocabulary used throughout the poster is not for children and they are trying to promote internet in households to improve the success a student has. They are targeting parents since parents want their children to succeed.

5. This poster does not display ethos because it does not have any citations that indicate where the information came from.

6. This poster displays pathos through the pictures of students leaning by using computers and by using words such as success.

7. This poster displays logos through the graph because it is showing statistics.

Section B:

1. I will use this sample to guide me while creating my poster by having balance between text and pictures. Making the font big enough so that it is legible from a good distance. Using the appropriate colors so that the text is easy to read and by making the poster flow and easy to follow.

2. My outline has not really changed after analyzing this poster because we included a place for citations and have a space for everything that was required. This has helped me keep colors and fonts in mind while I create my poster.

Week 12: Research Reflection

The Lit Review assignment has taught me a lot of information that I was not aware of when I chose this as my semester topic. Regarding my field I learned that there is a lack of diversity, because men are more known to obtain these jobs and stick to that job for more than 10 years. My semester topic is pretty self explanatory when it comes to the actual problem, there are not a lot of minority women as teachers, engineers, or coders (dealing with technology). I was not really intimidated creating this Lit Review since I had experienced one in high school taking AP English and also in RWS 1301. I felt that the primary research was easy since we went step by step every week to complete this assignment, so Prof. Cisneros made this simpler to complete (thank you!). I enjoyed conducting the academic research, because it helped me understand and her a personal experience from my professor that I interviewed since she is from Chihuahua, she is Hispanic, and teaches Mathematical Sciences here at UTEP! 

I feel that this topic was important to me so I knew what kind of judging I was going to put myself in. Not so much here in El Paso, but I do plan to become a teacher either in Calfornia or Arizona, who knows maybe even Washington, which all states have their own “majority race”. Granted there are a lot of Hispanic women that live or work in these states, but what statistics show they always tend to pick men for these jobs in the STEM field. 

As I stated above I do not want to become a statistic in this field, like some women have become. The statistic is that 100% of women do pursue a BA degree, but from that 100% only 3% of those women are majors in STEM, and work for more than 10 years in the field. I am inspired by this statistic to teach Mathematics for more than 10 years and get more than my BA degree, I am really reaching for my Doctorates in this field, and I am “muy excited” (Selena), to pursue this career and degree in the future!

Here in El Paso Hispanics are the majority but in other places Hispanics are the minority so it is good to be informed where we stand when it comes to diversity. Since they always tend to pick men you have to prove you are better than any of them.

Week 12: Reflection

The literature research paper was not difficult to write but it was time consuming.

This research helped me realize that the nursing field is not ethnically diverse. Minorities are increasing slowly and it is good to have diversity in the workforce because it can improve quality care of a patient. A lot of time had to be dedicated to this assignment in order to get the best possible grade. It was very stressful at times. Conducting the interview was not difficult for me since I was via email. I would of liked to conduct a face to face interview to get more information but my scholar answered all my questions. Since it was through email it was easy to to quote my scholar

What I learned is important in the future because here in El Paso Hispanics are the majority but in other places we are the minority. Hispanic people do not have many barriers here but once we move to other places barriers might be created. This is why it is good to be informed of how diverse the nursing field is, it helps us be prepared for the future.

This is my second research paper and writing this paper helped me fully understand the APA requirements. This will probably not be the last paper I write so I will use what I have learned from this experience and apply it to the papers I will write in the future. When i receive feedback on this paper I will also use it to see what I need to maintain and improve.

What are the assignment requirements for your sections?

-Graphic images:

• The graphic should be sized appropriately for ease of reading. 

• The graphic should fit on one page. Do not split a graphic over two pages. The graphic should fit on 1⁄2 of the page.

• If creating your own graphic, focus on the message more than the design.

• The graphic needs to be explained or referred to, in detail, in the text.

-Conclusion

• Remind your audience of the issue and its aspects.

Intro: Introductions can be easy, but they can also be tricky. The tip on introductions, is to wait until the end of the paper to write them, but here are the Requirements:

My Department: My department would be Teacher Education, because it has my declared major, and my semester topic conveniently (STEM).

TIME TO BE A CREEP, AND STALK SOME PEOPLE ;) 

My first choice was Dr. Olga M. Kosheleva. I chose her mainly because her research involves the STEM field, integrating STEM into the curriculum. She also focuses in Mathematics, and Applied Mathematics which is what I am really interested in as well. She also physically looks like she is a minority woman that has a degree in the STEM field, bonus! 

Next I chose Nicole Louie. She seemed very interesting to want to interview because her research involves how teachers define how to learn and do Mathematics in the classroom. She also is interested in the challenges, tensions, and other mishaps that teachers experience teaching in an hierarchical culture (i.e., race, class, gender, sexual orientation). 

I also found Dr. Daniel A. Tillman interesting. Not only because he is a man besides the girls I have found to interview, but also because he too is also interested in Interdisciplinary STEM education, which is the main focus of my own major. 

Last but not least I chose Dr. Joyce G Asing-Cashman. I chose Dr. Asing-Cashman because she focuses on technology in Mathematics Education. Which in turn brings me back to my Education class I am taking this year where we are trying to use technology to have a more effective way of teaching Mathematics.
