A letter arrives, sealed with a sage green wax stamp of a cherry tree.
'My dearest, Ceres.
'I write to you now to see how you're doing. I know we've lost contact these past few decades, so I wanted to catch up. I've fulfilled my dream of living in a lighthouse! I've been studying anthropology as well, for about two years, now.
'My apologies for not reaching out sooner—Greater Marrow, the town I've since settled in, requires service in their military. So, I suppose I should reintroduce myself: I am Captain Gemini of the Greater Marrow Navy! I can't believe how long it has been since I've written you. Unfortunately, I have no way of knowing if this letter will even reach you, with the postal service being what it is, and not knowing your address. Please write soon!
'XOXO, Gem.
'PS. I would love to come visit you soon!'

After putting of reading the letter for so long curiosity had finally put her in a choke hold, sitting down in their bed she slowly reached for the paper, hands shaking slightly. Taking in a deep breath she traced the seal with a sharp inhuman nail, draging it across the letter to open it, feeling it do so under her hands.
Oh... hah... hahah! Oh this is such a stupid thing to cry over... gods... it must have been 200 years now and im still not over her... good.
Moving fast she cleaned her house, thoughts finally coming back to her, they had been putting of reading it for over a week now. Her house wasn't a mess but it was far from perfect, album covers and posters lining each wall to create a similar feel to her previous tent. It was filled with trinkets and suchlike, creating a homely feeling in the cramped space...
Hopefully gem wouldn't find the forge, the weaponsmiths spare room had been turned into a messy workshop that was filled with guns and suchlike, all glinting with enchantments and made with pure detestation.
Gem waits, pacing, as she looks for Ceres' letter back. Did she even get it? They hope so, selfishly, desperate to know if her past love thinks of her just as much as she thinks of them.
She doesn't even know why she's so nervous. It's not like she reached out prior, so why should Ceres worry about them? Would they even want to hear from Gem again?
A small, black cat slowly paced towards her, holding a perfect letter, circling around her ankles fot attention. The letter wrote:
'Dear Gem,
I have been doing very well thank you! Recently I have gotten such wonderful news! In exchange for making weapons for a certain 'organisation' they will drop all my charges against me and allow me citizenship and Id! I now own an apartment in New York and would love for you to visit! I am overjoyed to hear you are doing well and hope to see you soon!
I cannot write for long as I have been busy with paperwork but I wish you the best of luck, whatever you choose to do and I sincerely apologise for not being able to write!
-XOXO, Ceres.'
Neptune was purring loudly, begging for attention from gem by pressing her nose and in turn the letter against her leg, scratching slightly to be noticed.
Gem could nearly weep, knowledge of her partner flooding her with relief. She's alive. And she wants to see me again, she chants in her mind. They quickly pack a bag, overjoyed.
With that, she rapidly writes another letter.
'Dearest, Ceres,
'Oh, my love, how I long to see you face to face again. New York isn't far from the Marrows, it's about a 6 hour flight. What days work for you, my love? I cannot wait to see you again!
'I'm so deeply happy to know that you're safe, and I know how much paperwork sucks. Please write soon! I miss you, and would absolutely adore if we could catch up properly!
'XOXO, Gemmy'
She deserves to use that nickname for me. They've loved me for centuries, it's all I can do to thank her. She thinks, smiling softly.
Smiling at the nickname she read the letter on their kitchen counter, overanalysing everything before writing a reply.
'My dearest Gemmy,
Any days work for me, I will make time for you whenever dear, this week will be calmer for me so J will try to stay at home in case you visit when I'm away running errands. There will be a key left with the letter for you at the bottom of the page so that you may let yourself in.
I am so overjoyed to be able to meet you again after all these years, I am ashamed to say I am beginning to forget your face my love but I do hope you still remeber me. The ammount of magic and weapons I am creating nowadays are taking a toll on my memory and I fear I am slowly forgetting you aswell. But as soon as I finish my work for the organisation I will be better! I just howe I will recognise you when you return.
XOXOXO, Ceres.'
Finishing the letter she set Neptune to deliver the letter before writing a final note on who gem was in case of the worst, crying softly in empty silence.
Gem smiles, hugging the key to their chest. She was finding love again, after two and a half centuries, in the same woman she left behind all that time ago.
That Thursday, a flight lands in New York. Gem wanders towards the address written on the envelope, and they knock.
Jolting at the sound of someone at the door she ran to see who it was, swinging it open to revial the woman of the hour. Feeling memories rising to the surface they powered through the headache and
Taking her time to look at the beautiful woman in front of them she wraps her arms around Gem, laughing as they brought her close, still in a state of half-shock she felt tears prick at the corners of her eyes as she clung to them like a vice with shaky arms, scared to let go.
"I am ever so happy to see you Gem... hic* I dont... God I missed you..." She sighed, fighting the sudden exhaustion that hit her legs standing awkwardly to avoid falling over.
"I missed you, too, so much more than you could have imagined… I won't… Won't leave again, if you don't want me to. I've got you, Baby, I'll protect you. You're not alone, I promise…" She rubs Ceres' back, their arms wrapped around her lover, steadying them. "Let's get inside, yeah? It's, uh, it's quite chilly. And snuggles are better indoors." She laughs softly.

Towards the middle of the night while people were still having fun Ceres had decided to go for a walk to catch a break from the partying and chatter towards the more dense forest, eventually sitting down at a lake and lying down to gaze at the endless stars that filled up the empty skye.
Slowly she bagan to drift off, feeling the world buzzing beneith her, and time, it would pass all the same despite whatever she would do...
Gem watches Ceres wander, quietly following after her lover. The stars are clear, no longer clouded by a blood moon, and they watch quietly. "It's beautiful, tonight, don't you agree?" She speaks softly, in case her darling is resting.
Waking up from the half asleep state she was in they looked up at Gem, a painfully warm smile adourning her face. "It is, but you my dear have made it infinitely more stunning." Their voice was hoarse from sleep, patting down on the ground next to her with a small smile, pleased to have such wonderful company.
Smirking at a wonderful job well done they shuffled closer, bringing an arm up to fit like a puzzle peice in her hair, being a personal heater was in their second nature after all! "And you are everything to me dear." There was something so sad about their voice, its time to let her go.
"I- hahh... I cant stay with you after we leave... there are many many men after me. You will be hurt and I am not willing to let you stay with me if I know you may die..."
"So I just have to sit idly by, while I know that there are people coming to kill you?" Gem whispers, the joy of the moment snuffed out like a candle. Her voice breaks, tears welling up in their eyes.
"Isn't there something we can do? Change your name, go off the grid, never be seen again, except by those closest to us? Go somewhere they'll never find us?" She begs, clinging to Ceres.
Sighing she wrapped her arms around her, pulling her love close, a silent prayer fell on deaf gods ears. "I wish that would be the case. I- Gem im- im so sorry... After this I will have to go into hiding but I promise you this, I will send neptune to visit whenever I can and I will never forget your beautiful soul." Part of her refused to believe this was real, and part of her knew this was the only way the pair would live.
"I don't… Know if I can learn to love again… I'm scared to lose you… But if it's the only way, then… Then okay. We have this week, right? Let's make it special." She vows, kissing Ceres then and there, with only the stars as witness.

Ceres was cleaning up the rooms of Gem's tavern when they felt a pair of eyes on them, they looked around, purple magic dancing around the room. "Dirty assasin. Fight me face to face." They pulled out a knife, standing tall over the feeling. Before they could fight a hole opened up beneith them, screaming and flailin they fell down for what felt like eternity.
The void. What a lovely place... Could've been alot better but sure they could fight here... yeah... "Ÿ̴̰e̵̩͛ả̴̬h̴̳̏ ̴̪́s̵̜̀ȏ̸̢ ̸͕͘w̶̳̽e̵͍̍ ̴̤̄k̶̨̓i̷̖̾n̶̮͒d̵̰̏a̶̝̓ ̸̖̚ẖ̷̐a̷̐ͅv̷͉̐e̷͈̅ ̵͚̓ẗ̴͎́ò̵̩ ̵̤̂t̸͕̑ȯ̵ͅr̵̝̓t̴̐ͅu̵̖̐r̴̮͂ě̸̡ ̵̠͘ý̶̺ô̶̹u̴̮͝ ̷̧̇ó̵̹r̴̪̒ ̷̮̿s̴͚̚o̸̘͋m̷͈̕ė̴̤t̶̥̓h̴̤͝ĭ̵̧n̴̲͑g̸̗͐ ̷̲̏s̷̩͑o̷͙̒ ̷͍̚u̶̠̎h̶̲͊ḧ̸̗́ ̴̂ͅt̴͇͛r̵͓͘y̷̫̐ ̴̫͝b̷̞͋ȩ̴͋ ̷͚͗c̵̞͠ō̴͉m̶͙̈́f̶̪͛ỷ̸̝?̵̤̆"
Great... Just great... They tried to shapeshift but all that did was create rifts of void all over their skin, ow... OW OH NOW THAT REALLY HURT- "AAAaaaªªª``` " Their voice faded into the void as they screamed and cried for help that never came...
Gem, having been downstairs, comes up to see a hole to the void. "CERES‽" She shouts, terrified. The purple glow cements their greatest fear. A voice worms its way into her mind.
Her heart jumps into her throat, giving a weak beat, unnecessary to the vampire. Their life on the line, she bares her soul to the Gods she had once forsaken.
They were screaming and crying like a child, feeling every seccond of being ripped apart by the void. God damn it crying won't help you Ceres lock in. They tried all their charms and spells, failing spectacularly each time. As a last resort they brought out Neptune from her heart, crying into her furr, they felt her shapeshift in their arms curling into the formless figure. No words were spoken as they were slowly ripped apart, peice by peice.
They saw a crack of light in the distance... was that a city? They were pulled slowly towards it by Neptune who was still held in a vice..
Gem knows that she's taking a risk, as they don the robes they swore they'd burn one day. Ceres needs them. The Society will haunt her, but at least she can do one last act of good, of defiance to the Gods. She, now in the purple, swears to avenge those who have fallen. Those she could have saved. They step into the Void's frigid embrace.
They were close to escaping towards the city when a purple hand came and brought them to what they could only explain as a castle. He looked up from where they were lying, tears staining the floors. There were masked figures looming over them, long robes cascading down like a waterfall, they were talking and mocking them like they didn't fear him. Time to fix that...
They lunged forward, nails scraping against ceramic floors, they ripped a chunk off one of the tallest one's cloak, drawing a bit of blood from the dark abyss underneith, there we go...
They looked around, eyes locking onto Gem destroying some other watchers in a different room before going back to the idoits. "Fight me fairly you bastards..." They threw their cloak away, biting down on one of the watchers leg earing a deafening scream from them.
They get to Ceres, sobbing, clinging to him, forgetting the disguise. "Hey, hey, it's—" She rips off the mask, revealing their face, "—it's just me. Just Gem. I know I look scary; I'll explain everything later. I know how to get you out. You just need to trust me," She caresses their lover's face, needing to be close to him.
They push back, falling back onto the floor. "HAH! YOU THINK ID FALL FOR THAT‽ Parhetic..." They barked, feeling a clawed hand wrap around their body, draging them upwards untill he could barely make out the tiles on the floor. As they slowly suffocated they clawed at the hand, managing to draw a bit of blood in the process, not enough though...
"U̶͎͙͉͐́̃g̵͚̯̖̗͍̣̻̋h̴̡̰̺̬̤̫̦̱̲́̈́̿̕.̴̢̡̨̭͉̥̰̺͔͖̀̏̊.̶̟̺̰̭̠̮̤͇̀̇̒̓͂͑̌̅̚.̶̧̱͔̳̒̅̈́̅͂͘͘ ̷̜̲̰̈́̂̽̐́̓̋̄̄ý̶̦̻͓̪̦͓̀͆̒̓͐͛͒̕͜͝ȍ̷̜̌̎ú̶͔͕̝̖̀́͘̚̕͝ ̸̝͂͑̄́̈̚p̴̬͗͆e̴͓̣̋̆͑s̷̯̠̬̺̣̀̑̒̈́̾̈̐̍́͜͜͝t̷̳͒̍̀̈́̀̕.̷̤̺̺̂̆.̷̱̋̈́̅̉̈́͛͘͜͠.̵̮̼̲̄̽͜ " The watcher holding them croaked, looking down to Gem with a dissapointed sigh.
Gem, shocked for a moment, kisses Ceres, still crying. "Pplease!! I want to help, and I-I can only help if you trust me," They beg, "ask me something only I know. Something not even the Watchers know about."
They shifted back, thinking over their words carefully. "What does my blood taste like?" They spat, writhing as the watchers grip grew tighter. The rifts of void began to eat into his skin again, they bit down screams but it was clear that he was in pain...
"Ġ̸̛̱͓̟̝̯̫̊̕̕ę̶̪̱̍̽͒́͠m̸͉̏̍,̸̞͊͛̊̀ ̴̗͔̞̟̚͜ẇ̷̼̫̯̲̗̈́͂̀̇͛͜ͅh̸̻̣̅̏a̶̡̠͍̠̟̣̹̐̚t̶̠̠̥̙̹̥͒͗͋͐̊̾̎ ̴̡̨̛͚̪̥̣̏̌̉̑̑̓a̸̛̛̠̰̼͓̱̪̙͌̒͌r̵̨̨͇͚̮̈́̅͊̐̈́è̵̠͚͔͙̼̭́͛̉̈̈́ ̷̛͖̱͓̩̫͉̗͐̏̋͂ẙ̶̘̺̀͝ö̸̩͖̝̮̳̤́̒̈́̊͗͜u̸̜̜̺̱͊̌͂͜ ̸͖͖͔̼̜̱̐ͅḍ̷̢̹̝̮̮͈̓͊͆̎̀̾͊ǫ̵̖̰̦̳̫̟̏̾̓̕ḭ̴̧̪͓́̿͑̿̕n̵̟̣̭͖̉̅̏̍̿ģ̷͕̫̜̊͆.̷͓͂̀̽̚.̵̢̝̩̤͑̇̄̃͋.̶̨̯̣̳͍̪̔?̶͓̯̪͍̩͖̰͐̐̕͝" The watcher sighed, moving back into their throne.
"Like starlight. It explodes on the tongue, bitter, but sweet in the sharpness. It then blooms into a floral note, almost as if I'm drinking the best tea imaginable. You taste like you, my dove, and that taste is, in itself, perfection."
She clings to their lover, silently begging them to recognize her. In a language Ceres doesn't unddrstand, Gem begins loudly—angrily—speaking to the Watcher.
"You dare use my lover against me. To make me crawl back to you. You deserve nothing, Xelqa. May those you call family, friends, and lovers, turn to ash when you hold them next. Jealousy doesn't suit you…"
Ceres was cleaning up the rooms of Gem's tavern when they felt a pair of eyes on them, they looked around, purple magic dancing around the room.
