Interview: Gemma Mylan, District 7
Caesar Flickerman: As well all know last year’s Victor Farren Lingard came from the lovely District of 7 let’s see what it has to offer this year with the beautiful Gemma Mylan! *audience claps*
Gemma: Hello Caesar, *smiles*
Caesar Flickerman: Hello Gemma! With the Victor of last year coming from your very own District, do you feel that it has had an effect on you?
Gemma: Not at all, I am my own person with my own strengths. And she has her's.
Caesar Flickerman: That's very true Gemma, we haven't heard much about you Gemma but the famous Kalmin Boone has definitely seen some potential in you how do you feel about that?
Gemma: *smiles* I was definitely surprised that I got a sponsor after my private training score. I guess there's more to people then a number.
Caesar Flickerman: There is more to a person than their score! Kalmin's a wise man, what kind of things are you expecting in the arena? Will we be seeing you in an alliance?
Gemma: I'm sure the arena will have specific challenges and secrets hidden in it as always, but exactly what is the question. Alliances will be formed to take down lone tributes, no doubt there. *Shakes head* Not that I plan on, no.
Caesar Flickerman: Ah, well you've definitely been pegged as one of the underdogs of the year! What do you think of the Capitol my dear?
Gemma: Its a nice place, a little too fancy and sketchy for my taste. There aren't many trees or anything of that nature that remind me of home.
Caesar Flickerman: *crowd mummers* Well Gemma, then there's an easy solution to that! You win the games and go home back to District 7 right everyone? *looks at the crowd encouraging them* any words for the people back home Gemma?
Gemma: I have no one back home for me, nothing to say or think about people, only Seven.

Possessions will posses you || Gemma & Damien
My fingers slowly dug at the couch cushion to release the rest of my aggravation from the scores. The screen flicked for a second before going completely black. Save it for the arena, save it for the arena, it will be worth it there. Not here. My breaths started to even out and I opened my eyes once again to face Damien.
“I don’t like to lose,” I motioned to the black screen where the scores were displayed. “And I consider that losing. What about you, Mr.Eight. Expect that?” I still had an edge to my voice, but that wouldn’t fade just yet.
I raised an eyebrow at her comment, that much was obvious. I was going to try to clean up the broken glass on the floor, but the pieces were so small that I wouldn’t be able to pick them all up. She didn’t like losing… that would come in handy in the arena wouldn’t it?
“The only people who look at those scores are sponsors, and they pick underdogs too,” I said simply. It was true. My score was mediocre, while Gemma’s left room for guessing as to what made her tick. When she asked the question, I could have said of course I saw it coming I had been training blah blah blah. “I wasn’t expecting an eight that’s for sure,” I said looking over at her.
I sighed at his answers. He was expecting a lower score, and I was hoping for a high or even average ranged scored. AN Avox slowly scooted into the room, probably terrified of me being in possession of another glass, with a broom and a spray bottle of who knows what. The smell of alcohol filled the room along with silence. I removed myself from the couch quickly.
"I'm going to bed, goodnight." My hand made a small wave before I took off and flopped into my bed from exhaustion.

When everyone scattered out of the living room, Caesar was rambling on about the tributes again and their scores. His voice and comments made my emotions become even more bottled up and explosive. The television seemed to become louder the more I tuned back into reality. My teeth clenched together when I turned to Damien once again.
“Can I see that real fast?” I pointed to his glass with a forced smile. He looked at me curiously, keeping the glass loosely in his hand. I snatched the glass out of his hand and smiled brighter before chucking it at the television. The screen didn’t crack but a few sparks came off along with my anger. “Thank you,”
I looked at her, and even though I had no idea what she had in mind, I held my hand out to give it to her. She took it with a smile and I thought she was going to take a swig of it or something, but she simply threw that glass at the television. An Avox began to scurry out of the kitchen, but I waved her away.
“Seems like you’ve got quite the temper,” I said, motioning to the broken glass and still functioning television.

My hands started to curl, my knuckles whitening and the television became a mumble in the background of my thoughts. Damien spoke calmly at my side, trying to calm me down about the score I got in private training while an Avox cleaned up my only sign of destruction. I silently begged for another glass, but inside of shattering it on the wall, I’d slam it on the Gamemakers. There was no way that a five is my logical score.
“Its not just a score, it can determine the difference between life and death.” I shot him a glare before closing my eyes and taking deep breathes.
She did have a point. The scores determined sponsors as well, something that could mean life or death in the arena. Not that I necessarily wanted to tell that to a girl who had just chucked her glass of alcohol at the nearest wall. “You still have the entire arena to prove them wrong, you know,” I said simply, noticing that she was squeezing her eyes shut.
Luana shooed the avox away and grabbed the bottle of champagne and walked towards her room. I guess she wanted to drink away the night, hoping that one of us would come out of the arena and make her the famous escort for the victor. Nikephorous slapped us each on the back and walked himself out of the room as well.

God dammit, he would get a eight. Meaning, I would have to match it or get above a nine to beat him to his bet. Time seemed to slow down in the small distance between Damien and I’s scores. My name was said slowly by Caesar, then a bold five circled around my picture before disappearing. Not only had a lost the bet by a long shot, a five was the worst score so far besides the zeros. Anger bubbled up inside of me, pushing for a way out. I tried to contain my aggravation, but soon the champagne glass flew out of my hand and smashed again the wall by the television. I blankly stared at the red spot as if it were a part in the painting job.
When we saw her score, I could see Luana shoot her a glare, but once the champagne glass shattered against the wall she looked away. I definitely didn’t expect glass to be broken, but I couldn’t blame her. Luana quickly ushered in an avox to clean up the glass, as Gemma just stood there as though she was in a daze.
“It’s just a score,” I started, making sure she didn’t turn around and start smacking me with her fists, “it doesn’t mean anything.” I couldn’t help but feel a little bad for the girl, she must have thought she had done better than a 5.

I’d heard that Damien befriended some careers, some more close then others. While he was out and about, partying, drinking, or being punished, I was working my ass off as much as I could in training. I wanted to be prepared since I would most likely go in by myself, no emotional attachments to any one here unlike others, unless someone I could trust asked me. District Six was about to pass when I looked at Damien.
My legs folded like a pretzel towards my district partner with narrowed eyes. The logic seemed to fit in. “Deal, I bet my score is higher than yours.”
“Deal,” I said, raising the champagne glass and taking a sip. District six had passed and by the time I had turned back to the television, Caesar was stacking papers getting ready to say our scores. I could see Luana’s knuckles were turning white with stress, we were her ticket to fame in the Capitol and if we let her down then all of this would be for a waste.
When my picture flashed on the television, followed by an 8 surprised wouldn’t cover my reaction. Of course I didn’t show any of it, but I didn’t think I would get much higher than a five, maybe a four. Apparently what I did made some sort of impression, even if it wasn’t a big one. I turned to Gemma with a knowing smile on my face, “Let’s see how you do.”

My shoulders shrugged to respond to him as I looked back to the program. I didn’t know how good I did. Certainly they don’t see things like this every year but some tributes bore the Gamemakers and sponsors. Maybe average? District Three whipped by quickly an continued with the higher numbered district. I recognized a few faces but I knew all of them as enemies. People standing in the way of a better fate in Seven. Some scores where better than others, up in double digits or near, while others plopped down to zero.
“What do you think those people with zeros did? Stand there?” I raised an eyebrow at Damien with my foot tapping against the tile floor. The scores determined our labels in the games; intelligent, strong, bloodthirsty, and the worthless.
When I saw Mika’s face flash with a zero next to it, Caesar and Claudius began to chatter on about how that had never happened to a District Four tribute. All the while, I was awestruck at how Mika could have gotten a zero. Most of the faces that flashed by were people I had never met, simple roadblocks. I had accepted the fact that if I wanted to get home, I would need to play by the Capitol’s rules.
“Or didn’t show,” I said, turning back to Gemma. District Five passed by with one unfamiliar face and then Brefina’s. She recieved a 5 and I wondered what she did to deserve it. “Make a bet, what score do you think you’ll get,” I said with a smirk. I had begun to lose myself and after what I remember from the private training I may have let go a little bit too much.

Caesar flickered on the television with papers resting in both of his hands while rambling about this year’s tributes and Hunger Games. I sighed and took a sip of the champagne when District One’s scores started to flash. The girl, Char, got a surprising seven while her fighting partner scored a nine. The scores were average for a career, but as I’ve heard by some of the citizens here; scores mean nothing, just a number to label tributes with.
“How do you think you did?” I turned my head to face Damien. Word around the Capitol was that he’s gotten into great trouble and was nearly beat to death in one of the punishments.
I wasn’t surprised by the scores for District One. I knew that Char and Axel had it in them to do well, I was surprised they didn’t do even better. The commentary turned to fuzz when I turned to Gemma as she spoke. We hadn’t had a real conversation since we ran into each other in the forest that one day, I was surprised I hadn’t seen her around the training center.
I knew that I had done all that I could, by the time I returned from private training my entire body felt like it was going to fall apart at the seams. I could tell by the way she looked at me that she knew what had happened. She looked at me like I was trouble, and maybe I am. “I have no idea, to be perfectly honest,” I said with a shrug. “What about you, Gemma?” I shot her question back at her, curious as to what she had done in training.
Just then, I realized I had missed the District Two scores and they were already onto District Three.

Luana yelled from the kitchen to get our asses in the living room since Private Training scores would be on the Capitol television soon. I honestly had no idea what I would get, I had strengths but they weren’t going to be shown till the arena. Nikephoros gave us looks that clearly said ‘lets hope you didn’t mess this up for your life’s sake’. I rolled my eyes at him and plopped down on the black couch with my arms crossed over my chest when Damien sat down.
I knew Luana would have dragged me out of my room if she needed to. This was ‘one of the most important nights for us’. It seemed like every night was an important night that had something to do with the Games. She had already thrown a tantrum when I didn’t go down to the annual ball. I really wasn’t in the mood to walk down there battered and bruised only to know that most everyone knew what happened.
I sat myself down on the couch next to Gemma and took the glass of champagne that Luanna offered to each of us. This was going to be a long night.
