Gem Skeletons Master Post
This is a collection of information about gem skeletons. A lot of the info points are merely guidelines, they aren’t mandatory.
General Info:
The gem skeleton concept (created by @wishingstarinajar) was heavily inspired by Land of the Lustrous | Houseki no Kuni.
Gem skeletons are a rare breed so not many of them exist. Please refrain from making too many. As Syndrome (Pixar’s Incredibles) kinda put it: "When everyone is rare, no one will be". You should own up to two gem skeletons max to make the rarity believable.
This species is best suitable for fantasy-themed AUs and settings.
Their rarity, magical qualities and beauty make gem skeletons highly desired by upper classes of society. Owning a gem skeleton truly elevates one’s status. They are therefore hunted down in most settings and kept as a pet/companion, therapeutic assistance, or as a servant.
Biology:
A gem skeleton can consist out of any type of mineral.
Their bones are dark because gem skeletons are a cave-dwelling species (a nod to minerals being mined and developing in rock and soil). Pale bones exist, though this is extremely rare.
A gem skeleton is born by letting a newborn monster soul connect to a mineral deposit. This is a very delicate progress with a high chance of failure. When a connection is established, the bonding between the soul and mineral deposit takes eleven months. During the first nine months, the bonding soul is vulnerable and must be protected. It will develop a skeletal infant-like body after eight months of bonding.
The age cycle of a gem skeleton is the same as that of a human until they reach adulthood. Their aging slows down remarkably between the age of eighteen to twenty-two. The development/growth of their mineral also stops upon reaching adulthood.
Gem skeletons are frail! Some worse than others. Chipping of the bone/mineral happens. If a limb breaks or gets detached, it's repairable/re-attachable with a special glue but the repaired fracture will be weak from then on.
Gem skeletons have different body types. They can be slender or big boned, short or very tall. They can be any gender.
Gem skeletons can’t bleed; they don’t possess blood or bone marrow.
Saliva and tears are made up from ecto.
They can form an ecto body and genitalia. The ecto is the same color as their soul and the mineral they consist out of.
Human and gem skeleton hybrids do not exist.
At this point in time, gem skeleton Bitties don’t exist.
Magic:
A lot of minerals are believed to have healing properties and the same goes for the gem skeletons. The healing and spiritual qualities of their mineral IS their magic, they hardly possess any other type.
They can't summon gaster blasters or manipulate bone. To clarify, they are not Sans or Papyrus in any way, just a skeletal monster type.
They can summon a crystalized weapon (of the same mineral they consist out of) if they have been trained for such.
