To all the young folks looking for jobs and going to interviews, based off what I have seen in the last few years at my job I have one tip for you.
DRESS PROFESSIONALLY. SLACKS, PRESSED SHIRT, NICE BLOUSE - FUCK THROW ON A BLAZER LADIES, HAIR NEAT, CLEAN CLOTHES, CLEAN UP YOUR FACIAL HAIR FELLAS, NO HATS/BEANIES, NO SNEAKERS, NO CASUAL CLOTHES.
I donāt care if itās a job at McDonaldās or Walmart, dress professionally. You have no idea the amount of people Iāve seen show up to my retail job looking sloppy as fuck. And guess what? My SM didnāt hire them based off that. You canāt show up looking like a hot mess, a job is a job nowadays, you gotta be professional.
That is all.
10 crucial changes you need to make to your rĆ©sumĆ© when youāre not entry-level anymore
Resume Basics
having a strong resume is crucial for job applications, scholarship applications, college, etc. it is a sales tool and, ultimately, the first impression an employer/application reviewer will have of you. therefore, you need to make it interesting and impressive. below, i have listed a few tips and need-to-knows to help you build your resume. keep in mind that this list is geared toward industry jobs. while the information is still useful, it may be less relevant for those applying to digital marketing/design jobs.Ā
General
make different versions of your resume. by this i mean, have a master resume that lists everything. then, from that master resume, make specific resumes for each opportunity you are applying for.Ā
in high school/university, it is usually best to keep your resume to one page. unless you have done substantial work and are capable of filling up two pages, it is best to keep it short and concise.
always review your resume before submitting !! it is crucial that your resume does not include any typosĀ
FormattingĀ
keep your formatting consistent throughout your entire resume
use 11-12 point font, your name/headers should be no bigger than 14 point font
have a 1 inch margin all around your resume
do not include decorations (unless you are applying to a digital marketing/design job where aesthetics matter !!)
keep your font selection professional. my personal favorites are times new roman, garamond, and helvetica.
do notĀ use caps unless it is for headers/titles (but even then, use caps at your own discretion)
Sections/Components to Include
name & contact info (phone number, email)
summary/3-5 second snapshot of your greatest accomplishments
job/internship/related experience
publications & speeches
awards & recognitions
memberships & affiliations
certifications
language skills
special/technical skills
extracurricular activities
Synonyms/Power Words
instead ofĀ ānew,ā useĀ āunusualā orĀ āinnovativeā
instead ofĀ āimproved,ā useĀ ābetterā orĀ āfasterā
assessed/measured/quantified
conducted/performed/undertook
created/designed/developed
optimized/maximized
increased/reduced
spearheaded/led/directed

please let me know if you found this helpful !! i would love to post more comprehensive tips on cover letters, interviews, networking, developing your linkedin, etc.
Being More Mindful:
Go to sleep earlier (Listen to ambient music to fall asleep faster(or things like the Calm app)
Wake up earlier (Put your alarm far away from the bed so you have to get up and turn it off)
Donāt go on your phone first thing in the morning
Tell yourself that itās going to be a good day
Stretch for 5 minutes
Make your bed
Drink a glass of water (Personally, I like to keep a litre of water in my room so i can have it as soon as I wake up)
Lay clothes out on the bed(Or, go one step further and set the clothes out at night)
Go shower or brush your teeth and wash your face if you shower at night
Put lotion on, put clothes on and apply makeup/do your hair as per normal
Watch a 5-10 minute motivational video (Youtube has Inspirational channels, Ted Talks etc)
Eat breakfast(Smaller bites, appreciate the taste), and drink more water and plan your day
Make your lunchĀ
Now, if you have extra time you can look at your phone and scroll through social media a bi before you leave the house
Look for beauty around you, in the smiles of people, their fashion, flowers, architecture, interior decorating. Try to take in as much as you can.
Look up from your phone(Delete the apps you donāt need. Be honest about what apps waste your time)
Make it a goal to make someoneās day better, whether itās by buying a homeless person a meal, or by smiling genuinely at someone. Brighten someoneās day.
If you have extra time, write a journal entry for the day. Write about what you noticed in the world, your goals, your feelings, what excites you etc. Write about your thoughts, let them flow through you.
Carry a book around with you and read it when you find yourself doing nothing.
Notice how much time you spend on your phone or laptop. Try to replace some time that you spend on silly things with educational things. (Read the news rather than scrolling through memes for an hour, read a motivational book rather than toxic tweets)
Learn.Learn.Learn. If you havenāt heard of something, ask what it is. Ask people to teach you how they do whatever it is they do. Donāt settle for no answer. Dig deeper. Learn.
When you learn something, try to see if you can explain it to someone else. If you canāt, try to learn a little more.
Be nicer to people. Ask them how they are, listen to their stories, learn who they are. Youād be surprised at all the interesting, educational stories that people all around you have.Ā
Go outside every day. Enjoy nature.
Appreciate who you are and where your life is at. Appreciate that not everything happens perfectly or as planned.Ā
Appreciate that you can learn anything if you put your mind to it,
Spread positive feelings.
Cut off anyone who threatens your positive vibes.
hereās to every girl working so so hard to reach her goal. i see you. you can do it.

Balancing work and study is tricky business
you can do this. stop sabotaging yourself and your dreams. there will be risks, there will be stress, but go on and actually pursue what you want to do. you will not regret having tried, all things considered. self-doubt can destroy so much of your life. donāt let it, please.Ā
20 things I learned in my first year post college
I finished my finals a year ago. WILD. Hereās what I learned this year in my career and my life outside of college:
1. Work is TOUGH:
You canāt get into a burnout-before-vacation system like you do in college because you barely get any vacation
You have to be engaged and concentrate for 8 hours a day (I used to drift off a bit when I studied or go for a walk). It is tiring.
You canāt skip work like you would a class. You lose that flexibility with your tiredness
You canāt just put in your headphones and concentrate on your work. You have to be engaged and friendly even if youāre exhausted
2. On the plus side, you wonāt feel guilty 24/7 about not studying. Hello weekends.
3. Managing money is toughhhhh. Graduate starting salaries are low and there are a ton of expenses that have cropped up (eg council tax).
4. Making smart choices with money is tough. I put Ā£90/$115 in my pension per month and when youāre on my salary that is a large amount of income. I have to remind myself that this is smart long term.Ā
5. Itās hard to keep in contact with all your college friends. Thatās ok.
6. Admit to your mistakes at work! Not only will it make you a. someone of integrity but also b. when something isnāt your fault people will believe you
7. Being proactive is a skill! Develop it! Put yourself out there! My best opportunities have arisen because I have asked for them
8. N E T W O R K. Networking makes me anxious - but is the best thing Iāve ever done. Email people where you like the sound of their job! Legit, just cold email. Go out for coffee. It can lead to amazing things!
9. If you have a problem, research all of the reasons whyĀ it could have happened before you go to someone to fix it.
10. Support your team as much as you can! Are they overwhelmed? Do their work and do not expect or go after credit for it. It will not go unnoticed
11. Fixed term contracts are tough. Fighting for a permanent contract against your friends and colleagues is tougher. Work at being the best person you can be for the role. Take on responsibility. If it costs more to replace you (because you do more than one personās work) theyāll keep you. This technique gets you a job but can lead to burnout
12. You do not build your reputation from one or two things a week like college - you build a reputation by working every day to the best of your abilities.
13. That being said, if you notice a big gap in revenue or another kpi and you can justify it and figure out a solution, do it. Raising your profile is important.Ā
14. I often work out what I want people to think of me professionally. My current motto isĀ ābe gracious, enthusiastic and ambitious.ā Think of what you want to stand for and work towards that.
15. Sign up for company healthcare. Even though I live in a country with free healthcare, private healthcare has given me such a fantastic backstop and such fast treatment.
16. Sign up to your public library.
17. Youāre an adult - find a good savings account. Interest is literally free money. I get Ā£90 in interest post tax a year.Ā
18. Find a work friend who is supportive of you and your achievements. Get them to sense check your decisions. Donāt pick someone who is bitter if you do well.
19. Donāt get drunk at work events.
20. Graduate life is fun. I have picnics and go for drinks and concerts and honestly, my career is fun. Donāt stress too much.
you can do this. stop sabotaging yourself and your dreams. there will be risks, there will be stress, but go on and actually pursue what you want to do. you will not regret having tried, all things considered. self-doubt can destroy so much of your life. donāt let it, please.Ā
