I’ve seen Kunikida getting some undeserved hate about his hairstyle, so I decided to make this post about why I love his hair so much.
Short answer: He is my son and he is beautiful and I love all of him with all my heart.
Long answer: I’ve always thought his hair was cool (including the sentient ponytail that the anime gave him, which looks really cute the way some people draw him, especially with it making a heart shape because really, that’s just adorable), even before I adopted him as my son and decided to love him with all my heart and soul, enough and more to make up for why he inexplicably isn’t very popular??? (I mean, he’s a main character, and very complex and human and relatable, I don’t understand???)
And I might complain about how, at times, his hair can be a real pain in the arse to draw, because dude, what even is your hair?? But I love it. It’s fun, and it’s been getting easier to draw, especially if I draw his ponytail lying flat like in the manga rather than as a sentient being like in the anime, though I still draw it that way when I draw him in his magician’s outfit because magic. (That, and when I just can’t. get it. to lie. flat.) [Unrelated side note - he looks hella good in stud earrings.] And his hair’s long, and I love playing with it and putting it in all different styles, even if I do usually just end up drawing him with his usual ponytail because I’m lazy and also I do love that ponytail.
I mean, there’s:
let down (and another)
shoulder-length
short
high ponytail
braid (courtesy of Dazai) (courtesy of Sakura) (courtesy of himself)
french braid (courtesy of Oda)
in a bun
put up with an octopus clip
loose braid and butterfly clip
half-ponytail
And these are just the ones I’ve drawn him with so far; there are still other styles I want to try drawing.
Conclusion: Kunikida Doppo’s hair is amazing and beautiful, not “sad” or “troubling” or a “godforsaken abortion” or anything like that, and I hope that everyone knows that any time someone talks shit about my son Kunikida, it only fuels my motivation to write/draw him even more, out of spite and even more love.
What about talking to that person instead of vague blogging about them?
I mean, only cowards that are too afraid of consequences would do that..
That’s a bit sad. I pity you.
