Tatooine Peasant Disguise: The Phantom Menace 

When the Queen ventures into Mos Espa with Qui-Gon, she disguises herself again as a handmaiden. Padmé dons the clothes typical of the Tatooine people, with bindings at the arms and legs to keep out the blowing sands. The materials used are far more earthy and basic than her usual regal attire, with a tunic made of a hemp and linen mixture. The only adornments are her elaborate braids and a red glass jewel at her belt.

Grace Hopper - the woman that coined the term “bug”

Grace Hopper did more than coin the term “bug”. She invented the first program linker in the early 1950s, for the UNIVAC I. A program linker translates instructions from one language to another (for example, numerical codes that represent instructions translated to machine code that computers can read), which is the very foundation of how computer’s operate independently. she also pulled a steve rogers and tried to enlist in the military a bunch of times and was denied. then, an exception was made for her when she joined the navy reserves, and she ended up serving for over 40 years (half of which was active duty). she retired from the navy Rear Admiral Grace Hopper. she was born in NYC in 1906. Grace Hopper was a fucking badass.

also computing was typically a job for women (many of whom were black women that made incredible contributions) back in the day, so it’s absolutely fucking wild that straight white men think they are the foundation of computer innovation. men PUSHED women out and took the credit.

Y'know, the Austrian-American starlet of the 1930’s and 40’s, and part-time (self-taught) inventor whose frequency-hopping spread spectrum (developed in the 1940s to help the Allied Forces jam enemy frequencies) laid the groundwork for modern Wi-Fi.

She also made modifications to Howard Hughes airplane designs. Howard Hughes: the man who built and raced airplanes, setting several world records in the 1930’s and 40’s. She made modifications to his designs.

Let’s give it up to all the women, queer, and POC folx who have been ignored, erased, or exploited by the history written by and for white men.

And if women’s influence in science (I’m sorry in not sure if any of these are LGBTQ or poc) is your thing, the Smithsonian institute is currently asking for volunteers to help transcribe a multitude of records including scientific notes and journals by women ranging from astrology to zoology, and of course, including computer scientists. Some of these projects may have been completed by the time this is posted or by the time you see it so I apologise if they are gone by the time you get there.
