Thank you for your interest in our first GenKill Bang! Aside from requiring that both fanworks you create for this event be your own work (no AI) and the relevant due dates, there are no other requirements for participation. There will be a sign-up form starting June 7th. Fill that out and I will know to check in with you.
This event has two stages.
In the first stage, you will have two months to create a fanwork for Generation Kill with the theme Halloween. There will be a check-in a week before the due date where, along with learning your progress, I will also need to know the basic details of your fanwork so I can begin matching for the second round.
Do not post your work or your full WIP! Same goes for the fanwork I will assign you - Do Not Post. Works will be posted all together during Halloween. However, you are allowed to share snippets of a work-in-progress for help and feedback and even mention @genkilltent when you do.
In the second stage, you will again have two months to create a fanwork for Generation Kill, but your second round fanwork must be somehow in response to a first round fanwork from another participant that I will assign you.
June 6th - we storm the beaches.
June 7th - sign-ups open.
June 28th - official sign-ups close.
August 16th - check-in and fanwork metadata collected.
August 23rd - deadline for first round fanworks.
September 6th & 13th - check-ins and possible re-assignments.
October 25th - deadline for second round fanworks.
Halloween - works posted in pairs to this blog.
Our intent with this event is for GenKill fans to create and engage with new fanworks! There are a few rules, but please especially keep in mind with your first fanwork that someone else will have to create something based off of it. We won't set a word count or make any other demands on quality/quantity, but please be respectful of others' time and energy.
Allowed fanworks in either stage could involve:
poetry, songs, compositions
*Explanations must be provided for at least 60% of the songs. If the playlist has five songs, I need you to state why three of them were picked; if your playlist has 20 songs, I need you to provide individual reasons for at least 12. This is only so we can understand your intent behind your song choices.
**With all art that is nonrepresentative, we will ask for an explanation. You can knit a scarf! But please tell us how the stitches/colors are GenKill. ...A scarf would be so cute and maybe you'd get a cute fic where one of the guys wears it... OR you could write a fic where someone gets a scarf and then whoever gets you might knit the scarf. Anything could happen!
Fanworks that involve the following are not allowed:
environmental destruction (digging your own grave may come back in future events!)
NSFW content is allowed, but we will need you to post it on AO3 to our GenKill Bang 2026 collection. If you must post elsewhere for any reason, you will need to provide us with a link and content warnings.
If you are assigned a fanwork made by a minor, please do not make your second fanwork NSFW. Reach out and we may be able to re-assign you.
If you are not 18+, do not submit NSFW fanwork.
