{ Ϟ } — “Art thou not the merchant within the capital?”
The one she’d gone to meet and never quite got answers from. While her father trained her in the art of manipulating the electricity, he never gave her the ability to create it herself. It made her only power a tad situational – and unfortunately, harder to harness in combat should she need it for self defense.
“Thou hast to be. Nay, I shan’t forget such an outfit!” Then came her determination. “If thou hath the time to speak with me upon the topic of magic, I wish for naught more, ser! Please, I beg of thee!”
Looking up slowly from his tome at the sound of a woman addressing him, his eyes wavered as if in a haze. Blinking rapidly, his vision cleared, and he turned with a smile to face her.
“Aye, I do be the merchant within the capital. And to whom do I owe such an honour to be in company of?”
As he finished his sentence, realization hit at who stood before him. Though much of her registered as familiar, ranging from the azure hair to curvy figure, the golden eyes shone like firelight in his mind. He would never forget such eyes of beauty and grace. He listened to her speak, his face showed a touch of surprise before regaining his composure from the realization.
“Do you imply my outfit be loud and outrageous? Eyes, as bright as lanterns in the night, do be hard to forget.” A light chuckle left his mouth before continuing. “If magic do be the topic of discussion you wish of me, I suppose I am in possession of spare time to indulge on the matter. Be glad such ask is granted, for time and attention is precious, and have received both from I.”
Solitude Of Books
▌[ ☽ ] ▌— “Animals are always interesting to me. I enjoy learning about them.”
She listened to him carefully, nodding along in agreement with a smile. “Oh, uh, I would just start with your favorite animal or just basic domestic creatures.” She spoke before taking another sip of tea, her grip tightening around the cup for warmth. “Perhaps I shall read those sometime…as far as other interests, what do you want to know?”
“I see. Animals are always an interesting topic. And learning about them is always a pleasurable experience.”
Darlon finishes off his tea and frowns slightly into his cup, surprised he had drank it so quickly. Looking up and smiling, he nods his head. “I suppose I shall begin my hunt for an intriguing animal book next time I am here.” Setting his teacup down, he continues. “Why, other interests as in what interests you. Hobbies, things that you find appealing. Favorite lunchtime meal.” He says, giving small hand gestures as he does so.
Just A Little Work
{ ➳ } — “Well, Darlon.” He’d repeat the name, as he did his best to remember it. The name would quickly be scribbled down in the Czech’s messy shorthand. “Pleasure doing business.” Someone who could find the smuggler’s number was always someone with enough cash to dole out. “Meet you in a week.” And with a single click, Vesely was off to call up his partner – filling her in on his new contract. Brief as the call was, it gave her enough information to say he’d be out in Germany for a bit. Better to do that than ditch her and have a pissed off merc on his ass for it later.
Silent to himself, he’d take the top sheet of the notepad and slip it into his journal – marking it with the date and time (which was obtained from his wristwatch. Sometimes the man forgot about alarm clocks) before slipping into clothing and beginning to plot his trip. Was only 6 hours most – including pit stops. Nothing to worry about. Now it was time to play the waiting game and see if the newest client would actually meet him. Sounded as though he would. It’d be one hell of a ride figuring out what a new acquaintance had up his sleeve for Milos.
After a long week of preparation, finalization, and assuring things are in order, Darlon departed the airport for his destination. Arriving sooner than expected, he took the available time to do a little exploration throughout the city. Frankfurt is a beautiful place. Sprawling with life and it’s own customs and beauty. Darlon made his way down a windy street in the busier core of the city, passing flower shops and little boutiques, Darlon took in the aroma and comfort of the city.
He had come with a bodyguard of sorts. A close friend who would look after the money until its needed. Sending him off to take care of money business, Darlon takes a seat outside at a small coffee shop. Placing an order, he sets his phone on the table, watching the surroundings absently as he waits for his order to arrive. He pats his left side chest gently, feeling the blueprints folded neatly and slid in behind his pocket watch.
“And so shall the next play happen in this game.” He said quietly to himself, thanking the woman for bringing his order and taking a sip of his tea.
Solitude Of Books
▌[ ☽ ] ▌— “I just read nature and animal books mostly.” Neffie pulled her legs up into the chair, sitting cross legged now.
“Sometimes I read other books so that way everything doesn’t seem so dull, but I’ve also read many, many books in my time. Way too many I’ll admit.” She nodded, focusing her attention on picking the cotton off the sleeves of her sweater. The more she thought about it the more she realized that she never really had much interest in other books. “I don’t think there’s any I would recommend unless you want to know more about animals…or plants.”
Her hand reached for the cup, holding it gently in her palms. “Perhaps I should be asking you what to read instead since you’re so adventurous with your selection.” A small smile formed just before she took a sip of her tea, eyeing him carefully.
“It’s always nice to learn about the world around us. Animals can be very interesting.” Darlon placed his tea down, and picked up a book, lazily reading the first page.
He nodded and laughed lightly, a small smile on his face as he listened to her. “Books are wonderful to indulge in. I’ve read many books over my time too. They are wonderful to get lost in.” Flipping to the next page of the book but looking up at Neffie, Darlon fixes his gloves absently as he considers what she’s said. “I don’t know too much about animals, so it wouldn’t hurt to expand a little. What do you recommend?” He asked, curiosity in his voice.
“As for what to read for you, I’m not quite sure. Perhaps a tragic romance? Or a fantasy book with a lot of humor in it for a lighter mood.” He added, taking a sip of his tea once more before placing it down again. “What other interests do you hold, Neffie?” He asks her, his eyebrow raised ever so slightly as his curiosity grew in her.
A Ring Of Steel
She’d turn around as soon as she felt the presence of another enter her workshop. Clanging stopped once a sufficient edge was reached, then placing the red hot rod of steel in cooling solution. Turning around, the almost tribally-dressed female looked over the other. Looked a noble. Odd to see in her little town. Funny accent on this one. “Welcome to my forge, stranger! My, you’re well dressed. Noble I take it? Odd seein’ your kind around here. Normally it’s the big burly types with scars and bruises.” Golden hues looked the other over. Didn’t seem like his spiritual essence was… Terribly convoluted. At least, she couldn’t see anything wrong for now. He didn’t really provide an eerie feel.
She’d walk over to her counter, leaning on it, rather well toned arms flexing in nature due to the heavy hammering that had preceded this meeting. “Yes, I am. Name’s Zyre Thunderhammer. Good to meet ya, fancyman. What’ll I call ya?” She’d ask, brushing her bangs from her left eye.
Hearing the sizzle of the metal slip into the solution made the hairs on Darlon’s arms stand. He wasn’t used the the environment of clanging steel and leatherworking, but he had come looking for Zyre. As she turned to face him he raised one eyebrow quickly before smiling and it settling back into place. her description definitely matched what the reports had said.
“My name do be Darlon Gath. ‘Tis a pleasure to meet you.” Bowing slightly, he continues to address her blunt curiosity. “I suppose you could say I’m well off, but no noble. Just a merchant with interest in your set of skills. And although I am not burly, I bear scars of my trade.” Taking off his jacket and tossing it aside, he rolls up the cuffs on his shirt. Scars crisscross one another, marks and symbols mixed in. “Nothing compared to that of what others have earned through swordplay and fighting, but pain all the same.”
Crossing his arms, he leans against the counter with his back to it in front of Zyre. Facing her he smiles slyly, though his expression changes to that of idle chit chat. “I do be receiving reports that you are somewhat of a natural given talent in your trade. Curiosity has granted me the time to travel to see you. Though my flattery you’ve probably heard before, I’d like to see what type of goods you produce.” He pulls his left glove on a little more, idly playing with the button on it.
“Between you and me? It helps with intimidation through height. And I think it looks rather nice on me, don’t you think?” He strikes a pose, looking off into the distance with his hands gripping the open front of his jacket, pulling it taunt.
Striking the same pose to mimic him, she nodded.
❝ It does make you look taller. But tall doesn’t mean intimidating, I can be intimidating! Just give me a top hat too and we can scare everyone. ❞
Laughing at the mimicked pose, he taps his chin. “I think I have just the thing.” Producing a circular piece of cloth, he quickly shakes it, a quick *pop* is heard as a top hat springs forth.
“There you go, my emergency top hat does the trick!” He says, laughing as he places it on her head.
❝ Your top hat makes you look funny. Why do you wear a top hat? ❞
“Between you and me? It helps with intimidation through height. And I think it looks rather nice on me, don’t you think?” He strikes a pose, looking off into the distance with his hands gripping the open front of his jacket, pulling it taunt.
Solitude Of Books
▌[ ☽ ] ▌— “Perhaps because I generally hide away from others.”Her eyes drew away from the book, peering at the male that stood before her. She gently shut the book and placed it in her lap as she shifted her body position. “But it appears I will not be doing that today, seeing that you found me.”
She moved her body forward and extended her hand out; firmly grasping around his and shaking it quickly. “My name is Neffie.” The girl slouched back into the chair, fixing her sweater as she did. A soft smile appeared, rubbing her thumb across the pages of the book as she eyed him carefully. Finally, interactions with others where she didn’t have to force herself to try!
“You grabbed quite a few books there, what are you reading about?”
“It seems you and I both venture to this alcove for solitude from the world around us.” He says politely before retracting his hand and grabbing hold of his books once more. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Neffie.” She seemed reserved but happy to Darlon, and he took this as a cue to sit down. Taking the small armchair across from her, he put his tea down as he checked out what he grabbed.
“It would seem a romance novel from an upcoming author and two fantasy books.” Darlon states, responding to her question. “Sometimes I just select books at random and see what I come up with.” He adds, laughing lightly at the end. Noticing her thumb running across her pages, he puts his books down for a sip of tea.
“What have you chosen to indulge in? I enjoy hearing about what others read. It gives me a book to look forward to.” Darlon asks her quietly, sipping on his tea some more with a small smile on his face. He studied her features for a moment, but adverted his eyes to the covers of his books, not wanting her to seem as though he was staring.
A Ring Of Steel
ferrumtaurus
Darlon swayed side to side in the front seat of the cart, holding the reins to the two horse team. Trotting along in the early morning after a brisk night always brought new life to his lungs. Angeline sat next to him, hood drawn up and hands within the woolen robe she wore so often.
“What are the errands you run today, Brother?” Angeline asks quietly, eyes focused on the shoppes around them.
“There do be a smith my interests lie in, and I hear the skills with hammer and anvil be tough to rival. She should be in a forge here, if my reports serve correct.” He responds, drawing a nod from Angeline and no more. Pulling up to a wagon docking building, Darlon nods to the caretaker, tips him a coin, and hops off. “You know how to find me, right?” Darlon asks Angeline as he helps her down, she nods and hugs him quickly before taking off to browse the stores.
Making his way through the streets, one sound stood out the most over the rest, and that was the ring of steel on steel in the air. Rounding a corner, Darlon laid eyes on the workshop he sought. Casually, he walked into the place. The sound rang in his ears as the smell of metals and curers and tanners filled his nostrils. “Ah, this do be where I seek.” Darlon said to himself, observing the workshop with curiosity.
His eyes finally crossed who he had been searching for. Shorter than he expected, but the description of her matched perfectly elsewhere. “Excuse me, are you the main hand at this shop?” He called over the ring of steel she was working.
Just A Little Work
{ ➳ } — Pausing from his routine to deal with work issues happened frequently. Inhaling slightly, Vesely say upon the side of the rock mattress to continue the conversation as his shower would have to wait. Grabbing a pen and the provided notepad off of the night stand, the smuggler rested the utensils on his knee as his opposite hand kept the phone to his ear. “You’d be right. A house is out of the question.” Not Darlon’s abode, anyway.
“Give me a week to finish up what I’m doing now. And based on your accent, you’re Dutch, correct? Meet me in Germany. Frankfurt. Next Wednesday. I’ll call again then to give directions & specifications.”
Darlon was impressed and couldn’t help but smile at the phone as he heard Milos reach for some things. It took a lot to convince Darlon to push outside his comfort zone and meet somewhere not on his terms. However he had already thought this a possibility, given Milos’ number was hard enough for him to track down, let alone where he is situated.
“A week is fine. It will give me time to finalize the blueprints and organize my departure for Frankfurt.” Turning his chair to face the large window behind his desk, overlooking the hills with spots of tree, Darlon closes his eyes as the sun lazily climbs in the sky. “I’ll be in at noon, sharp. Please contact me at this number and I’ll be more than happy to rendezvous with you. Take care, Milos. I shall see you soon.” Darlon says, giving Milos his phone number and hanging up after he listens to see if Milos says anything else. “I suppose the game is afoot.” Darlon mumbles after hanging up, slowly climbing to his chair and heading off to prepare for his flight.
Solitude Of Books
Neffie Taking the steps slowly up the stairs to the library, Darlon felt his hair blow freely in the light breeze. His top hat was recently damaged and needed repairs. Grumbling, he entered the sanctuary of silence he visited frequently. Bowing slightly and smiling to the women behind the desks for various jobs, he continued in as they waved.
“What section shall we indulge in today?” Darlon mumbles, smirking as he looks at the vast amount of books lining shelves arranged in such a way to make a unique and sprawling layout over the vast floorspace they had. Picking a section, he begins browsing, plucking a few books from the shelves and heading to his corner. He stops to grab a courtesy tea from the beverage bar along the way.
Rounding the corner of some bookshelves creating an alcove of a couch and a couple armchairs with a table, Darlon stops in surprise at the person lounging in an armchair, delved into a book with a small cup of tea cooling on the small table.
“This alcove isn’t very popular, I’m surprised to see someone else here.” Darlon said, speaking softly with a warm smile on his face as he looked at the brown haired woman. “I hope you don’t mind if I join you. The names Darlon.” He adds, tucking his books under the arm with the teacup in it. Bowing slightly, he holds his hand out to shake. “And who is it that I have the joy of speaking to today?”
Just A Little Work
Darlon sat in the office of his rural European house, staring over pages and paperwork overviewing his business. Numbers cover the pages, totaling the price of restocking and the amount he will gross per month with his business. Toying a piece of jerky, he looks over at some blueprints with a number written on them. Picking up his phone, Darlon dials the number and lifts it to his ear. “Hello? Who am I currently speaking to?” Darlon asks once the ringing is picked up and he hears a voice say hello. Looking over the blueprints, he toys with a small trinket attached to his phone. “I am Darlon Gath, and I have a project requiring some assistance.” He adds after a small pause if it was asked who he was.
{ ➳ } — Readying himself for the day in the early AM, Milos had just finished up his daily workout routine. Wiping the sweat from his forehead as he prepared for a shower, the smuggler was just about to start a shower before his cell phone rang on the night stand. Pausing, his torso twisted to notice the ringing and bare feet made their way along the carpet flooring to answer the call.
“Hello? —Who are you?” He’d pause, it wasn’t often anyone had his number. It was for work, after all. “—Ah. Milos.” He’d chime his name. If this guy knew the number and specifically made a call? He knew what he was doing. His occupation shouldn’t have been necessary for the call. “Project? I’m all ears — but half up front pay. Cash only. And I prefer an in-person meeting if possible.”
Shifting some papers aside on his desk, Darlon lays down the blueprints as he listens to Milos across the phone. Smiling, he stops playing with the trinket. “Cash is perfectly fine, saves me the time of writing out a cheque or two and the headache if it doesn’t go through.” Pausing a moment to reposition in his seat, he continues. “Is there a preferred spot you’d like to meet? I know sometimes people can be a tad... hesitant about coming to ones house.” Taking a sip of tea, Darlon looks over the blueprints once again. He has never seen Milos, nor know much about him, but Darlon has ventured to some of the jobs he has done and is impressed. “I’d like this project started soon. When can we meet?”
“I’m sure you can but I’m just lending some help.” Pulling down the item, he holds it out to the woman. “The names Darlon. Pleasure.” He adds, smiling slightly.
█ { ☠ } █ — “…Thank you for your assisstance.”
Hesistantly, she reached for the item and gently tossed the cereal box into the small basket she was carrying. “I uh, have some other places to be now…like over there.” Ahlee pointed off elsewhere, slowly stepping away from him.
Darlon’s mouth turns into a small frown as the woman turns to leave. “I suppose politeness scares the timid.” He says under his breath. Sighing, he looks at his list, following the woman from the corner of his eye. “I suppose until next time...”
"Need me to help you reach that?"
█ { ☠ } █ — “I can reach it just fine thank you.”
Disgruntled noises.
“I’m sure you can but I’m just lending some help.” Pulling down the item, he holds it out to the woman. “The names Darlon. Pleasure.” He adds, smiling slightly.
