Kamen Rider Gavv Episode 48 Production Blog Translation
been working on this between studying in school

Looking at the Next Episode
Bocca, the president, is defeatedâŠ! A rare 3-Rider kick!! The heated team battle was a great send-off by Director Nakazawa. The new form, AmazinGummy, was miraculous. Moments like the exchange between Rakia and a newly aware Sachika had a noteworthy and fun Nakazawa pace to them. Weâre very grateful to him!
The last two episodes will be directed by Satoshi Morota. Since his start with Hantoâs transformation in episodes 5 and 6, heâs filmed a crab musician, octopus ink, ice cream birth, Lizelâs first appearance, and Hantoâs fateful opponent⊠Plenty of memorable moments. What airs is (naturally) composed of the final approved shots, but filming takes many different processes to get there. Script meetings also have points of attention for directors. Director Morota has clear plans in his head, and he gives precise instructions for the cast membersâ performances to follow those plans. On the emotional side of things, Director Morota has supported us this year the most. Please look forward to the last two episodes.
Heâs also facing the final episodes alongside Masaru, the owner of the candy shop called âHidamariâ. Michiru and Masaru Inoue⊠Their names match one another. Komura named them like that intentionally.
Many people are also seeing the summer movie. Thank you for making this a genuinely big hit! Thereâs still a little bit of time left to see it on the big screen. âGavvâ is ending with the summer. Please enjoy it until the end.

The Episode in Short
Thank you for watching episode 48. Gavvâs story is getting closer and closer to its climax! Director Nakazawa has been part of the director rotation since he joined in the second half of the show. He was in charge of this essential stage that is the decisive battle with President Bocca.
How do you defeat an opponent as mighty as the president? This was a problem we worried about at first, but the answer came in the form of âLango helping with the fightâ and âGavvâs awakeningâ. I think the âThree Kamen Riders & Lango vs. Boccaâ battle was a moment with appropriately fierce turbulence for the final stage of the story!
Stop the Fake Gochizos!
All of us are working hard to save the people being controlled by the large number of fake Gochizos scattered around downtown. The game of chase between the Gochizos and Dummy Gochizos, and the characters using bug nets to catch the Dummies, were direction choices made by Director Nakazawa. Delightfully showing parts that are a little bit everyday in nature is a consistent aspect of Nakazawa directing.
Gochizo Catcher Hanty (Laugh)
Meanwhile, Rakia works on developing an antidote for his toxins with the notes Dente left behind. In contrast to the toxinâs red color (like the poison that Glotta used in episode 40), the antidote is a blue hue. Itâs an extremely specific detail, but this is to reflect how Rakiaâs tentacles in his Granute form change from blue to red.
Sachika is released from her Human Press. The Happy Paradeâs uneven space was used in a way so perfect that you might think it was designed for this bit (Laugh)
Shoma meets again with Lango, who heâd thought that he defeated. Lango, who lost to Shoma and had secretly operated in the human world for a little while, finally launches into full-blown rebellion.
Lango borrows the strength of Shoma, who is more powerful than him. Like Nyelv, heâs a person who isnât picky with the means with which he achieves his goal.
Defeating Bocca, a powerful figure in the Granute world, means he gets to expand the company. With that behavior of always fixating on the future, in a sense, this dilemma was a perfect chance for Lango. Langoâs quick wit lets him play by ear and adapt to things, which is excellent as a company president⊠though many of those things are harmful for optics.
An Amazing Kamen Rider
Lango aims for Lizel first and holds her hostage to lure in Bocca.
âFirst Daughter Kidnapped by Former President of Large Candy Companyâ
This headline would definitely sweep the Granute world news if it was released⊠(Laugh)
Iâm sure this papa is furious deep down at the abduction of his beloved daughter. He casually appears and says âSorry for keeping you waiting, Lizelâ, once again staying composed.
You might be thinking, âWouldnât he bring a bunch of bodyguards with him usually?â, but the reason that he came by himself will be explained in the next scene.
âItâs because Iâm just that strong.â
As you can see from Boccaâs appearance at full power, the President is ridiculously strong. The Granute world is a society with an ability-based hierarchy where the strong individuals are on top. When they donât know the full strength of Bocca, who stands at the very top, Bocca probably thinks that itâll be easy to settle himself if he goes for it. [?]
Boccaâs full Granute form has been designed since his first appearance. Since his motif animal is the gigantic âCthulhuâ, his body has a sense of volume. The golden limbs that look like armor carry a noble atmosphere while giving a feeling of strength, and really show the good taste of the designer, Tamotsu Kurihara.
The three Riders come running in and do a simultaneous transformation!
They face off against Bocca in a 4-v-1, including Lango, but they are still overwhelmed by his unmatched power. The filming for the action was done across two days in a location where explosions could be done. [?] Boccaâs suit actor, Masashi Takada, thinks it was considerably backbreaking work to fight four people at once in Boccaâs heavy suitâŠ!
A new Gochizo born in response to Shomaâs unwavering feelings. This special Gochizoâs name, âAmazinGummy Gochizoâ, also appears in the subtitle. (Itâs a healthy child, getting a blow to Boccaâs face while freshly bornâŠ)
Plot-wise, itâs a Gochizo born from Shomaâs unwavering determination, and one that can only be born in extreme situations like this one. The Gochizoâs red color is also tied to Shomaâs blood; more wound makeup was applied to Chinen than usual.
The official name of this newly awakened Gavv is âKamen Rider Gavv AmazinGummy Formâ. It can also be called âRed Gavv Formâ... The design reflects the color of Shomaâs Gavv across the whole body.
It wasnât originally planned to appear, but it was created to create a feeling of importance that Gavv is surpassing Boccaâs strength in this decisive battle with the President. The red color represents a âburning will to fightâ. Rather than a new snack used to transform, the appearance reflects Shomaâs own emotions. A wide variety of snacks have appeared, and there have been Gochizos that play with gimmicks like the Gochipod, but this time, the Gavv form is a simpler design that, in a way, returns to the starting point.
A burning will to fight has fire as its special ability. The heat bending the air around it and and nullifying Boccaâs ability was an idea from Action Director Fujita. It isnât âjust plain strongâ; the action is thought about very logically.
Incidentally, the explosion during the transformation is real and not CG. Moreover, it had to be done twice, both before and after the transformation! This explosive, commonly called ânapalmâ, makes for tense shoots, as preparation is difficult and thereâs no room for error, but this turned out wonderfully!
In the end, the three Riders successfully defeat Bocca with a team Rider kick! A theme of this episode was âshowing the strength of humansâ. This was an appropriately fierce battle that proved that strength (although one of the Riders is a Granute) and truly felt like all-out war.
Yasumoto completed his role as Bocca this time. Before now, heâs played Bocca with a lot of composure, but for his finale, he gave a passionate performance with almost ghastly acting that made for the greatest conclusion to the character!
And on that note, Gavv has only 2 episodes left! The final battle with Lango, the long-standing enemy, is waiting. Please look forward to it!

Animage July 2025 Issue ft. Chitose Machi x Takizawa Ryo Interview (translation below)
Publication: June 10, 2025
A Splendidly Evil Family
Planning to seize control of the Granute world by distributing dark sweets that use humans as ingredients is Stomach Inc. Among the Stomach family members who manage it, the eldest daughter Glotta and second son Nyelv have completely opposite personalities.
Glotta is one of the best armed fighters in the Stomach Family, proudly displaying combat strength that can overwhelm even a Kamen Rider. In contrast, she worried when the eldest son Lango received the order for an absurd amount of dark sweets from president Bocca, showing off her family oriented side.
Nyelv, who's in charge of technological developments, contributes to Stomach Inc's prosperity through a variety of inventions. Behind the scenes however, he repeatedly acts selfish, as he was sharing information with the human Suga Kenzo, and secretly developed and experimented with the Vrastumgear.
When the third son Jiip married into the Jaldak Family, they took over Stomach Inc, and when Lango lost to Shouma, Stomach Inc underwent a drastic change. With no one to turn to, Glotta was at a loss for what to do, all while Nyelv successfully won over BoccaâŠâŠthese two are clearly divided into the light and dark sides of the family. With Glotta and the Kamen Riders having a rematch, the battle situation will drastically change once again! _
Chitose Machi (Glotta) x Takizawa Ryo (Nyelv)
-Love for your family has its strengths and weaknesses-
"As the number of episodes increased, how did your impression of your own role change?
Chitose: She was initially "in charge" of violence, so I thought her character was similar to that of a warrior, but in the scripts for the second half of the show, I could see the love she has for her family, and that it was her weakness. She's not human, but she has a human like quality to her, and it was abit unexpected to see her turn into such a relatable character.
Takizawa: I felt that Nyelv, a Granute whose thoughts we can't comprehend, was the most fantasy like character. When I first got the role, we were at the stage where there was no definite conclusion, so every time I read the script, I'd think about what beliefs Nyelv had and come up with my own assumptions as I performed. I can't go into details just yet, but the part of him that isn't just hungry for knowledge will come out, and in a good way, it betrayed me.
Chitose: The impression I get from Nyelv in the script is that he's completely mysterious, but the Nyelv Takizawa-kun plays often looks surprisingly childish.
Takizawa: Do you feel that he's abit mischievous?
Chitose: Yeah, that's it. I think that's what makes it fun for the viewers to watch. While I play the eldest sister, he really comes across as the youngest brother.
Takizawa: That makes me happy!
Chitose: It was also nice seeing him become agitated when Lango-nii-san confronted him over something.
Takizawa: I believe that there's faces he'll only show amongst certain siblings.
Chitose: That's really great. It's an enjoyable point that's easy to perform.
"On the other end, what's Takizawa-san's impression of Glotta?"
Takizawa: The Nee-san (Glotta) that Nyelv sees and the Nee-san that I see are slightly different.
Chitose: Oh!
Takizawa: I think Nyelv puts priority over his own ambitions, and that he couldn't care less about what Nee-san thinks.
Chitose: She's not even interested (laughs).
Takizawa: From the very beginning of the show, I felt that out of all the family members, Nee-san was the one who thought about the Stomach Family the most. I've gradually come to see that she's not simply strong, but that she also possesses something resembling kindness.
"Nyelv sometimes shows off a sort of playful attitude."
Takizawa: Like when he punched the air (episode 33).
Chitose: That seriously made me laugh!
Takizawa: He wanted to make a fool of Magen-san as much as possible, but since my performance as Nyelv was from far away, it gave off an unusually distant feeling. I thought that if I just shouted, I'd look weak, and when I was wondering if there was anything I could do, I started punching the air. The staff were pretty unsure about it, but Director Shibasaki said, "Yeah, that's good," and gave me the OK after my first take.
Chitose: So that's how it happened (laughs).
Takizawa: Earlier you said that "he comes across as the youngest," but from the start, I was trying to convey his mischievous side without forcing it too much. By doing so, I also wanted to present him in a way that would make people wonder, "What is he thinking?"
Chitose: Having a desire for knowledge is connected to being childish, so it comes across as natural to me.
Takizawa: It'll be alright if some people laugh when they see how things end for him, and it'll be alright if some feel sorry for him. I feel that Nyelv became a character that people could have those complex feelings about. Although, looking back on it like this, I think that I should've been alot more mischievous (laughs).
Chitose: I feel that this was the best balance.
Takizawa: Yeah. When it comes to performing on film, even if you think that the "flavor" of your expressions is slightly off, the camera angle or the way the Director creates the scene can sometimes make it just right. This was my first time being a regular on a year long production, and I often noticed things after watching the broadcast and felt the power that the staff have.
"We could feel the love Glotta has for her family when she immediately recognized that Jiip was using Siita's Mimic Key in episode 34."
Chitose: Yeah. I guess she really does look after her family.
Takizawa: Did you talk with Ruito-kun about what would make her realize it was Jiip?
Chitose: We didn't talk about anything in particular, but there was probably some back and forth between Hono-chan and Ruito-kun, and likely due to the performance being done with Jiip in mind, the vibes were different from Siita's.
Takizawa: Heh~!
Chitose: I was able to act naturally with, "Ah, something's off here."
-Was there a bond between Nyelv and Suga?-
"What are your impressions of Siita, Jiip, and Lango?"
Chitose: From a family perspective, Siita and Jiip are cute, but if it weren't for that, they'd just be bad kids (laughs). I can understand the resentment they had after being fired from the company and separated, but they're also at fault for not being able to do their job without properly reporting, communicating, and consulting.
Takizawa: They were employees after all.
Chitose: I have a strong impression that the Stomach Family was too dependent on Lango-nii-san, so I always thought, "Thank goodness Onii-chan is so tolerant." (laughs). I could tell that Lango-nii-san was doing his best to stand in for their father, and could feel the tolerance and love he had for his family as he listened to anything they had to say. Everyone did tons of things without reporting it to him, and yet he never really got angry, did he?
Takizawa: He never got angry.
Chitose: It's a wonder as to why he was so forgiving.
Takizawa: It'd be nice to have a big brother like Lango-nii-san. He seems like he wouldn't get angry if we ate the sweets with his name on them that he was saving in the fridge.
Chitose: I could see that (laughs). He at the very least would ask, "Did you eat it?"
Takizawa: I feel like if I said, "What~?" and gave a proper apology, he'd probably forgive me (laughs). However, I think the fact that he rose to the top of a family run business was absolutely due to Lango-nii-san's skills.
Chitose: Even after being demoted, Lango-nii-san didn't "spoil" and continued to properly produce results. He was incredibly good at his job and very mature, so I'd want a big brother like him.
Takizawa: In spite of all the bad things he did, I feel that his good upbringing was apparent.
Chitose: I could see it, he did things properly. Our father was also his father, so in reality, that's probably not the case.
Takizawa: Still, I guess it was straightforward, undistorted evil.
Chitose: In a way, he was the most honest in the family. When the time came for Lango-nii-san to "go," it felt as if a pillar within Glotta had vanished, and I myself was also in shock.
Takizawa: The shape of Siita and Jiip is very cuteâŠâŠ
Chitose: I know! They're so small and cute that it's kinda unfair.
Takizawa: He'd completely forgive them after they'd say, "We don't care!" However, unlike how Nee-san never gives up on scolding them, I think Nyelv gave up on the two of them early on in the show.
Chitose: They took full advantage of that.
Takizawa: Exactly, the opposite of love is indifference.
Chitose: It really is. That's why on the opposite end of things, Nyelv would say kind words to them.
Takizawa: That's right. Like the "your guts" line in episode 9 (laughs).
Chitose: I loved that! He said it with such a suspicious looking smile on his face, but both Siita and Jiip looked so happy (laughs).
Takizawa: I couldn't resist saying it on the spot (laughs).
Chitose: You seemed to be having alot of fun in that scene.
"In episode 38, he remodified Jiip and installed a Bitter Gavv."
Chitose: Remodifying a family member is pretty intense, don't you think?
Takizawa: It's intense. He himself didn't get his own hands dirty. That's the crucial difference between him and Suga-san.
"What do you think Nyelv thought of Suga, who was like his research partner?"
Takizawa: I think Suga-san had tons of influence on Nyelv in many ways, and in the sense that he learned a variety of things other than just sharing information, I guess you could say that he had encountered a good person. However, I also feel that Nyelv already obtained all the information he wanted to know, and I get the feeling that he's thinking, "Suga-san rushed into danger ahead of me, huh?," or "I've come out on top."
Chitose: As Suga-san was about to pass away, Nyelv went to see him off (episode 28). Watching that scene, I felt that what they had was a unique bond that exists between intellects, and that it's different from affection. I thought that was kind of cool.
Takizawa: Still, I think he had more affection for his siblings than for Suga-san
Chitose: I'm glad. I feel kinda relieved (laughs).
Takizawa: It's not just us, but the Stomach Family has steadily become more appealing, don't you think? Furthermore, the course of action everyone takes is different.
Chitose: While facing ordeals on the hero's side is common, I feel that it's rare for the villain's side to face proper ordeals. That's why I feel attached to them when they appear to try their best to get through things.
"This is exactly the kind of adversity that Glotta's facing right now."
Chitose: That's right. Lizel's remarks are pretty harsh (laughs).
Takizawa: It's just verbal arguments you know (laughs).
Chitose: She can't win. She's weak if she can't go all out with violence (laughs). Still, the fact that Lizel told her she was "half heartedly floundering about the most" also struck a nerve (episode 34). Jiip wants to be with Siita, Nyelv has his research, and Lango-nii-san's belief in growing the company was firmly established, but Glotta doesn't have anything like that. I feel like she just wants to do something with her family.
"For Glotta, the interaction at that time was a big deal."
Chitose: Yes. So far, Glotta has clumsily cared for her family, especially for Siita and Jiip, but Jiip's explicit rejection of her made her realize that it was all meaningless. It left a strong impression on me, as the moment her family moved away from her was when Glotta started to crumble.
-These two are in charge of public relations?! An account of event activities-
"The two of you have also appeared at many events related to Gavv."
Takizawa: I feel that we're both like public relations for the Stomach Family, so when we're given the chance, we like to appear.
Chitose: We aggressively go to them (laughs). During our appearance at the "Super Hero Festival 2025," I was anxious that our presence at a heroes festival would be a nuisance, but when we finally entered the stage, I was relieved to hear people cheering us on.
Takizawa: There was a scene where you walked close to the audience, wasn't there?
Chitose: There was! I threw balls among other things.
Takizawa: They were overjoyed to see us and waved, and I was so excited that I ignored them.
Chitose: (laughs). A small child wanted a ball, and it made me so happy that I handed one over to them.
Takizawa: During the "Okashina Okashi na Tea Party," it had been awhile since I had appeared in a project outside of the main series, so I thought, "I wonder what the best way of going about this would be." Asanuma-san and I talked about how we'd "make things even more exciting!," so I'm glad that the visitors also enjoyed themselves, and even though we're enemies, I really felt like we were part of the "Gavv family."
Chitose: You two were really cool.
Takizawa: The pairing of Nyelv and Suga-san was also exquisite. Not only do they get along well, but they both know each other inside and out, which I think the visitors also enjoyed seeing. Especially for the mothers who were next to their children, it was obvious that they were leaning forward as they watched us.
Chitose: Nyelv's live performance scene was just wonderful. Takizawa-kun's coolness was also on display, and Hono-chan, who was watching the video with me said, "That's so unfair!" as we then rewatched him countless times (laughs).
Takizawa: (laughs). I came up with the choreography for the live performance dance myself.
Chitose: Since you were holding a mic at that time, I'd like to see it without the mic.
Takizawa: Nee-san's character song is also one that can be sung out loud, and seems to work well at live performances.
Chitose: It has an assertive feel to it. There are calls during the song, and I was alittle worried about what would happen if they didn't call back to me during the live, but I was glad that they properly shouted back.
"Despite being villains, we get the impression that both Glotta and Nyelv are loved."
Chitose: I'm grateful. Even though they're doing a decent amount of bad things.
Takizawa: I feel like they love their characterization. Even on other sets, the topic of Gavv will come up with, "Did you transform?" or "You appeared alot today." It seems that viewership from those in the same industry is high.
Chitose: That's for sure! After the "Super Hero Festival" ended, I received LINE messages from countless people with photos from the event, which made me think, "Kamen Rider is loved by tons of people, huh?"
"Finally, please give a few words to the fans."
Takizawa: Starting from episode 39, Nee-san will play a more active role. As for Nyelv, will his monster form appear? Or will it not? That's what I want you to look forward to.
Chitose: Glotta's starting to show that there's more to her than just being strong, but how will the story unfold from here? Make sure you see things through until the end.
Also, once again thinking about the beautiful anti AI message of Gozyuger
Thinking about the fact that the villains are called No Ones and they come from No One World, where everything is a shallow imitation copy of our world - literally implying that a copy (as in, a copy made from AI or an AI assistant that is pretending to be human) is literally no one. It can never be someone, it can never be a person - as much as your ChatGPT 'bestie' or your c.ai 'boyfriend' feel like real people, they do not have a soul, a personality - they do not have the thing that makes them Someone, so they will always be a No One.
Thinking about how all of the No Ones need to consume some form of human life in order to survive on our planet, unable to exist as a shadowy copy on their own without harvesting off of true humanity first.
Thinking about the fact that Rygui broke the Manners No One with kindness, because AI cannot truly grasp human kindness and love - it can only run down an established list of written etiquette rules and repeat them back, and truly doesn't know how to respond to the idea of true human kindness.
Thinking about how Kinjiro broke the Showa No One by demonstrating that he has a healthy love for modern technology while maintaining his personal nostalgia - because it genuinely is such an important message in an Anti AI show to go 'hey, times without technology weren't All That and having a healthy but not completely dependent relationship on technology is way better' - instead of just writing off all modern technology as evil.
(Excuse me while I go sob somewhere thinking about how good this show is.)

Looking at the Next Episode
Weâve now entered June. Information on the summer movie, which premieres on July 25th (Sunday), has also been revealed. Itâs a work on the scale of a summer break movie. Co-starring with the FANTASTICS members appearing as guests was a very wonderful experience for both cast and staff members. Please go and see it!
Well then, episode 38 is next. Itâs the latter part of the writer Nobuhiro Mouri and Director Satoshi Morotaâs arc.
Hanto has constantly chased after the Granute who took his mother for eighteen years. Jiip continues to think about Siita, even after marrying Lizel. And the Japanese confectionery craftsman, Kenji. What will happen to the thoughts that theyâve always hidden in their hearts⊠Please pay attention to Director Morotaâs precise directing. Even on the set, he gets actors to show their emotions in very precise ways, saying, âNot that way⊠This way.â
And Bitter Gavv BakibakiStick Form has also been unveiled. Its Gochizo is already compatible with the Bitter Gavv Blade toy. It was put on sale in February⊠and now, itâs finally appearing in-show.
âGavvâsâ episode titles are decided by the producer team. There are also episodes where you understand the titleâs meaning more after you finish watching⊠Episode 2âs âHappy Zakuzaku Chipsâ has the Gochizoâs name and âHappyâ, with the additional meaning of a kanji in Sachikaâs name. And episode 22âs âThe Truth Is Bittersweetâ. Please look forward to the next episode while also considering its title [âFar Beyond Hatredâ].
The actor who plays Valen, Kaji, gave a few words. âYusuke put in incredible energy. You definitely shouldnât miss it, so please watch it!â The Valen teammates are close friends.

The Episode in Short
Thank you for watching episode 37. Shoma and his friends have overcome one difficult battle, but this time, the arch-rival that Hanto has been chasing after for his entire life appears before his eyes!
Every character stands at their own crossroads.
The Ando Revival Project
While the Granute world candy company, Stomach Inc., is in disarray, a request to liven up a Japanese confectionery store experiencing a slowdown unexpectedly comes to the Happy Parade. Otoya Imaizumi played Hiroto, the small client who brought in dango from his parentsâ shop, âAndoâ, as a gift.
He expressed Hirotoâs character with detailed acting that shows a childlike side in plenty of expressions, while also acting reliable!
Hirotoâs mother, the owner of Ando, is played by Misa Yoshino, and the Japanese confectionery craftsman, Kenji, is played by Mutsuo Yoshioka.
Yoshioka also appeared in the Toei movie-stage âShakkotaiâ (Itâs kind of a similar role). In this episode, he plays a rugged character whoâs burdened with serious things, but even when filming outdoors on cold days, he said, âI donât need a coat!â, and gave a hot-blooded performance.
Chinen has been eating many different treats while filming up to now, but since he already loved Japanese confectionery, it seems like he could approach the tastings for the dango and dorayaki with even more excitement than usual.
If only it were this goodâŠ! Shoma also prepares to gather information in order to increase the popularity of âAndoâ. For the employees of an anything agency, itâs heartwarming to see them grow in ways other than physical strength.
Rakia, calling someone with the Vrastum Gear in one hand.
âWell, it kind of broke while I was using itâ
He canât make a complaint to the manufacturer (đ?), so he consulted with Shoma for a moment.
âItâs still cracking. Fix it quickly.â
Shoma looked at the âAndoâ logo, and saw the âAâ in a circle, which is pronounced âanimaruâ⊠and animals popped into his mind! In order to gather ideas for the new project, the group goes to the zoo.
The Morota family.
Being able to take the intended shots with animals in them is half based on luck. They didnât have good timing with the white tiger, and when they were about to give up, the tiger suddenly came towards us!
What form will each of their inspirations take⊠Please see it to the end next week.
Jiipâs Attacks!
Instead of acting as emotional support, Siita corners Jiip within his dream and leaves him to fall in this cut.
As mentioned above, this setup does not have handrails or a valley floor on the bottom, so itâs a game of imagination.
Lizel also slowly pressures him, and heâs even chased down by GlottaâŠ
Jiip, continuing to be pressed forward by strong girls, is truly pitiful. It feels like he is making a fair amount of mistakes, so itâs hard for him to really argue with them.
Glottaâs actress, Chitose, is actually very affectionate towards her younger siblings, so sheâs a little bit apologetic about this (Laugh).
You have to wonder if his stomach is uneasy⊠Hey, donât pull it out too soon!
Pretty⊠(My thoughts are all over the place)
An agile and acrobatic battle that seems to say, âDo you know the gravity of the suit actor Kazuma Sakai, who is active across the world?!â, along with Kogaâs voiceovers, convey Jiipâs spirit.
Theyâre still at it⊠Gavv couldnât be defeated even when Siita was with him, and now he has plenty of new abilities⊠I think itâs fairly tough at this rate. So next episode, he also takes one giant step?!
And the amount of information in the Valen-vs.-Agent battle is also stunning! Heâs tied up and taken away by the new specimens that Jiip created while fighting.
Like usual, theyâre pretty strong in comparison to the Riders. He decides to drop back magnificently onto the stairs,
And defeats two enemies at once with a kick with spread legsâŠ! (And the landing where he falls back afterwards also has an unrefined Valen-ness to it.) The techniques that apply character and emotion to the action are wonderful every time.
It feels like we have a full stomach from this sequence alone! But the scene that Hanto sees unfold with his own eyes after de transformingâŠ
The form of Kenji, who puts himself on the line to protect Hiroto⊠and the form of an enemy whoâs been chased after for eighteen years. Please see Hantoâs battle that began long before he became a Rider, and its outcome, to the end!

Looking at the Next Episode
The Master and Over forms have arrived. It was interesting action that you couldnât take your eyes off of! The duo of Director Sugihara and Action Director Fujita is the strongest of them all. It was a treasure trove of ideas.
During a meeting to discuss power-up forms, it came up that a gummy final form was alright, but felt unsatisfying⊠So we did a two-form power-up, similar to Kamen Rider Agitoâs Burning and Shining forms, or Kamen Rider Geiz Revive Fury and Typhoon. Then, Bandai came up with the idea of a jar that gets flipped upside down. The face that appears is like a trompe lâĆil optical illusion. The material is also particularly jelly-like. For those who like holding the Gochipod, please enjoy how it feels.
To be honest, these two forms look completely different, but they use the same undersuit, components, and shape. They contain many clever design ideas. Itâs interesting when you compare them. Please look forward to their use from here on out. Weâre also grateful to the Toei Tokusatsu Fan Club members who cooperated with us over long filming sessions for episode 36. It took on that look (of being super-crowded) after editing. The things filmed around the venue are connected in many places.
And then next week will be⊠a Japanese confectionery rush. A request to restore a Japanese confectionery shop. A premonition of a Gochizoâs birth. And someone that Hanto comes across⊠Someone he couldnât have forgotten even for a moment. It will be delivered by Nobuhiro Mouri as its writer, and Satoshi Morota as its director. After the power-up comes Hantoâs destined opponent. In addition, Vramâs broken belt and Jiipâs slow-moving, magma-like thoughts will also be of interest. âGavvâsâ story wonât slow down. Please keep watching next week!

The Episode in Short
Thank you for watching episode 36! Continuing from the last episode, itâs directed by Teruaki Sugihara! Director Sugihara was last responsible for Valenâs power-up arc in episodes 27 and 28, but this time, he was in charge of an episode where a new Gavv form appears.
Last time, Director Sugihara poured his heart and soul into filming the final battle between Hanto and Suga, but this time, he captured the protagonist Shomaâs conflict and determination.
Sugihara has watched over the cast since the pilot episode. Letâs look back at episode 36, which he put all of his energy into creating!
âU.M.A.â, Attacked
âU.M.A. (Ultimate Music Achievers)â, the talk of the town, who had their music video released exclusively on TTFC last episode. The lovely folks at the art department made plenty of fan merch (props) for them. The fans saying âOnly horses are winnersâ, âNeigh with usâ, and et cetera certainly make one curious about the full story of this band (Laugh).
Rittsun is such a big fan of them that she brings a horse mask. đŽ By the way, the orange outfit that Rittsun was wearing is the color of carrots, a horseâs staple food (Laugh).
Since this is a very important episode containing Gavvâs power-up and a showdown with Lango, the script for this Sugihara arc was also created with an aim for visual richness.
Last episode, there were the settings of an âairplane interiorâ and âairportâ, but this time, itâs a âU.M.A.â concert venue!
The concertâs audience was played by TTFC members! We asked them to bring homemade fan merch and glow sticks. Thank you to everybody who prepared their own support merchandise that show their personality! Iâm sure there were many people baffled by the part in the outline sent to the members who won the raffle that said to âplease come with carrot-themed propsâ (Laugh).
The filming session was time-consuming and started early in the morning, but we thank everyone for their support!
They were also greeted by Director Sugihara and cast members like Chinen.
A lot was written about U.M.A. in the last episodeâs âThe Episode in Shortâ section as well, but thereâs one more behind-the-scenes story.
Since not many people are able to perform with musical instruments while wearing horse masks, it was very difficult to cast the members of âU.M.A.â
The person who then came to help us was [Fumiki] Yoshikawa, the assistant producer for the show airing alongside Gavv at that time, âBakuage Sentai Boonboomgerâ. AP Yoshikawaâs childhood friend Hayato Sagawa accepted the role of the dapple-gray Shige (drummer), and then invited his neighborhood bandmates to make up the rest of âU.M.A.â!
You should definitely check out the music of Hayato Sagawaâ along with Crab Kani Club, who provided the song used in this episode!
Ruler of Snacks, Master Gavv
In episode 36, Shomaâs actor Hidekazu Chinen had plenty of scenes to show off in, but even among those, his one-on-one scene with Langoâs actor Takashi Tsukamoto is an especially important one.
Itâs a scene where Shoma shows his determination, with all of the experiences heâs had up to now as encouragement. Chinen showed a look brimming with the confidence heâs developed, one which only Director Sugihara, who has seen the cast grow since episode 1, could have filmed.
Audio commentary with Chinen, Tsukamoto, and Director Sugihara is currently available on TTFC, so please give that a listen!
The Gochipod has the words âOVERâ and âMASTERâ engraved into it. As the item that brings out the power of the strongest Gavv, the meeting on the Gochipodâs toy design reached the pinnacle of difficulty. During that, Bandai came up with the idea of two-way use that alternates between the powerful âOver Modeâ and the smart âMaster Modeâ, which is innovative for both play and design.
When the Gochipod opens, an âup-and-down imageâ design appears, making it an excellent item that can be enjoyed in two ways at once!
âKamen Rider Gavv Master Modeâ was revealed for the first time in this episode. Contrasting against the impactful âOver Modeâ, it has an elegant design thatâs reminiscent of the PoppinGummy form, bringing it full circle. It truly is a fitting name to crown the âstrongest Gavvâ with!
From Action Director Fujitaâs idea, Master Mode is a form with super-speed in order to make up for the weak point of Over Mode, which specializes in the power of finishing opponents in a single blow. Lango is crushed with this blink-of-an-eye speed in episode 36 as well.
Furthermore, it is also powerful to make the best of each modeâs strong points while alternating between âMasterâ and âOverâ during the battle! It was truly exhilarating to see the fight play out while switching between the two forms!
âGavvâ has been a Granute-human hybrid from the beginning, and the forward-bent posture which incorporates a âwild flavorâ into the action has become characteristic of it, but Director Sugihara had the idea to have him bend even further down, creating a striking pose that feels even more wild.
Furthermore, as the name âMasterâ suggests, the form has the power to rule over all snacks, and so it also has the ability to produce previously seen items like the âChocodan Gunâ and the âZakuzaku ChipSlasherâ!
The weaponsâ abilities are well-balanced between short- and long-distance range. Itâs an all-purpose style of fighting while summoning various strengths! Truly a âMasterâ!
The free-moving camerawork special to the duo of Director Sugihara and Action Director Fujita, and the action which makes maximum use of the complicated location sites, were a series of surprises.
There were also scenes that were shown with Kamen Riders filmed on a green-screen and backgrounds filmed with a 360 camera and then edited in, but there were also many shots that were large-scale even for the cinematographers, filming Gavv while suspended in midair!
I definitely hope that you watch this action as many times as you want by streaming it.
The finishing Rider Kick puts Lango to a stop. Itâs a âSokutĆ kickâ technique used in karate and the like with added rotation. It was also a fixation of Action Director Fujita to have a memorable kick that isnât midair be used.
Furthermore, the successive attack done while Lango is flying around on the many encircling bottles (which, on closer inspection, all have different appearances!). I think that this was also an explosive arrangement from Director Sugihara, who never runs out of ideas!
The strongest enemy, Lango, has been defeated, but Langoâs exit will have great consequences for the Granute world, and therefore the Stomach family.
Next episode will focus on the unforgettable topic of âJapanese confectioneryâ. Please look forward to it!!

such a stan he even remembers this one-off rando by name
People have been discussing what Shirakura said in the "Toei's Secret-Spilling Special!" that came out yesterday on TTFC but I've seen a lot of confusion based on partial translations so I recruited my usual co-conspirators michaelele and Flame to translate the full thing. The text of the interview follows. The video will probably be up on my wordpress at some point today.
Please introduce yourself.
Shirakura: My name is [Shin'ichiro] Shirakura. I'm a poor old man who TTFC has abducted and forced to talk to you all. Glad to be here.
We have a load of questions for you. Are you prepared?
Shirakura: I heard we received hundreds of questions, which I'm really grateful for, because that means Toei's secrets are as dark and alluring as the ocean depths. Keeping their secrets is usually my trade, but today I get to do the opposite. I'm a bit nervous and hope this doesn't upset anyone.
What does the Character Strategy Department do?
Shirakura: Character-based IP have been at the center of Toei's business for over 50 years at this point, so it seemed like high time to make it more official. The Character Strategy Department creates business strategies for our various character-based IP, or plans for them at least.
Looking back to 2024, what do you think of the hype surrounding Royal Sentai King-Ohger's final act?
Shirakura: I'm truly grateful to all the King-Ohger fans, because it wouldn't be possible without them. TTFC was already working with Producer [Takahito] Omori on cutting together the final three episodes into a special edition for release on TTFC. So the plan was always there, and, in fact, I considered giving that cut a straight-up theatrical release. It did get a limited theatrical showing in the end, albeit as a one-day-only deal for members. We would like to do something similar again at some point, but it's really all because of our fans.
What are your thoughts on its successor, Cranked-Up Sentai Boonboomger?
Shirakura: When I first heard the title, "Cranked-Up Sentai Boonboomger," I thought it was weird, but... it kind of rolls off the tongue nicely. Despite its strangeness, it has a certain aura. Then, upon closer inspection, I knew only Producer [Yoshito] Kuji could have come up with it.
Whenever you'd ask Kuji to describe what the show's about, he'll be like... [stone-faced] "It's a cranked-up show." He'd say it just like that, cold as ice. He's really passionate, but he keeps it under the surface, so on the surface he's this mild-mannered, gentle kind of guy. So then I heard the red ranger go, "THAT'S CRANKED UP!" and I shouted "That's where that came from!"
I don't know if "secure" is quite the right word, but I think it's a show that's made with a lot of care.
So the production schedules have seen a shift?
Shirakura: Boonboomger is still following King-Ohger's production cycle, but the series after it will have a two-month head start. The idea of that is⊠Well, earlier I joked about the Character Strategy Department, but the point isn't just to expand our business dealings with regards to character-based IP such as the Super Sentai and Kamen Rider franchises, but to actively improve the shows in every way possible. Looking at it from the business end of things, Kamen Rider Gavv is actually the first show made in this adjusted production cycle.
The first reason for this is to reduce overseas piracy. The problem with our shows being pirated⊠The people who pirate our programs are huge fans who love the shows, there's no doubt about that, but in a way, they're also fanatics. What I mean by that is... When these people form their opinions on the shows before the official release has a chance to come out, they're in a position to color the opinions of the fans who watch the official releases. So, for instance, when the official release comes out, the streaming platforms will be flooded with comments like, "If the toys were like so-and-so instead I would buy them," "If they did this then the show would be good."
The head start from pirating lets fanatics drown out all other conversation about a show, even though fanatics judge things differently. So one of our goals was to reduce that.
Another reason was just to revamp our working environment. For years, it's been a mad rush to get each episode to air, giving ourselves barely any time. Obviously, it's very demanding, and it's very easy to go over budget in that situation. But this recent shift in our production schedule should give our budget management, as well as working conditions for cast and crew, a big refresh, so to speak.
We've decided to set this new schedule with Gavv and stick to it over the following years, with all our upcoming projects planned around this. We've been running these franchises for 50 years, but this is totally new for usâEven though I feel like we should have made the change years ago.
What are your thoughts on Kamen Rider Gotchard?
Shirakura: Well, Producer [Yousuke] Minato was under me when we worked on [Avataro Sentai] Donbrothers, so this was his first time being Chief Producer. Obviously, it's got a bit of a school setting, as well as a very young cast, so I think it's a show that's got a youthful energy to it.
The title of the show, Gotchard, was something Minato really pushed for. There were a lot of objections to it. When it came to deciding the all-important title, though, he wasn't forceful about it, but he made it clear he felt really strongly about "Gotchard". [laughs] He said that, along with Decade and Ex-Aid, it can be a sub-series of shows that end in ă (-do). So he pushed the objections aside⊠In a way, I see that as a sign of how reliable he could be.
How has the shift in the production schedule affected Kamen Rider Gavv?
Shirakura: One of the reasons for Gavv's production shift is China's censorship system. That's where the piracy problem is biggest, and it takes quite a while to pass the censorship process, so we thought we'd give ourselves a three-month lead. We weren't able to pass censorship by September, but finally, as of October 13th, the show has been simulcast day-and-date in Japan and China. This means, for the first time, the official release could make it out before the pirated versions, which I'm really glad we managed to do.
But beating piracy is really just one part of it. As the producer, [Naomi] Takebe tells me, it's had a great overall effect. One major example is the cast. The rushed schedule we had before meant episodes had an extremely fast turnaround. By giving ourselves more lead time, filming Gavv before anyone else knew about it, it gave everyone several months to focus solely on Gavv. Of course, when it aired, all the comments would come, and the interviews and press tours⊠A sudden influx of noise, for lack of a better term. But, until then, that's three extra months the cast has to focus on their work, their characters. That's the best thing about it.
It also helps with the promotional materials. Take the videos we make to announce the show: We had a lot more material to work with this time, and the CGI was even finalized in time for those trailers. The same goes for the previews at the end of each episode. Even Takebe wondered why didn't do this ages ago. "Why have we been rushing ourselves like this? Why were we so stuck in our ways?" It's really a dark side of Toei no one can understand.
This is the big one. Talk to us about the winter movie.
Shirakura: This year, we're releasing the Fuuto PI movie, and in the new year, there's the Gotchard V-Cinext. As for the so-called "winter movies" we've done each year since 2009, there won't be one. Nor next year, most likely. We're reorganizing the structure, which is getting into Character Strategy again.
So, there's the summer movies, winter movies, and we used to have spring movies as well. Now we have V-Cinexts, which are usually epilogues at the end of a show's run, or movies we make for anniversaries. But there's also stuff like Fuuto PI, or Shin Kamen Rider, which are in their own categories. There's a need to put a structure to all of that. This question is about Kamen Rider, but we're applying this mindset elsewhere, too, of course.
When we talk about Rider movies, though, including V-Cinexts, the question is, what's the demographic? Who are we targeting? Who'll enjoy this? These are questions we've struggled with 'till last year. We need to be more clear about our audience and make things for different demographics to enjoy. We're just starting to do that now, and there's still a lot I can't say, but we have multiple projects in the works right now which we'll start announcing in 2025. Please look forward to those.
Can you give us any specifics?
Shirakura: To be more specific⊠Well, I can't be that specific, but we'll have something based on the series on TV, a so-called "anniversary" project based on a prior TV series, and something that isn't based on any show at all. So those three projects are all being worked on.
This is because we realized that only the people who follow the TV shows understand our movies. So we're reflecting on that. The core fans will obviously show up for our spring, summer, and winter movies, but with the number of Riders increasing, some people, even us, will forget about certain Riders, and their forms, etc⊠That's not a big problem for the super dedicated fans, but the average viewer will be completely lost. Lately, it's been feeling more like we've been alienating part of the audience.
That's why, and this is just my way of putting it⊠We should make things that old people like me can enjoy, too. I honestly think it's important that someone who's not watching the show could catch the trailer and think, "Wow! That movie looks interesting!"
The things that triggered this line of thought are probably [Kamen Rider] Black Sun and Shin Kamen Rider. We've had some experience now â and I'm not saying we'll make stuff like those again â but we're making movies that anyone can enjoy, movies that can stand on their own. We've got a few of those lined up, so I hope everyone can look forward to them.
Tell us about Super Sentai's future as we come into its 50th anniversary.
Shirakura: Next year, 2025, will be the first Super Sentai series' 50th anniversary year.
Super Sentai up 'till nowâ Let's use [Kikai Sentai] Zenkaiger and its "#45 Bang!" as an exampleâ We've celebrated anniversaries based on the number of series, but I'd like to start celebrating based on the actual years. The reason being⊠Also, [Pirate Sentai] Gokaiger was heavily pushed for being the 35th series, which begs the question, "why all the emphasis on the numbers that end in 5, like 35 and 45?" It's because we wanted to match with Kamen Rider.
I forget whose idea it was, probably Suzuki Takeyuki, I think, but we've been doing these "double anniversaries". We say it's to celebrate both Rider and Sentai, but we just don't want Rider taking all the spotlight. So that's what we've been doing, but I think it's best if we stopped coupling Rider and Sentai together so much. Rider and Sentai should each have their own space. That's why we're revamping the way we count these.
[laughs] Besides, if we're honest, we're not even sure how many Sentai there are anymore. It's all LuPat's fault, really, [referring to Thief Sentai Lupinranger VS Police Sentai Patranger] because now the amount of years, the amount of shows, and the amount of Sentai all no longer match each other!
It's not really a total reset or anything, but we're ignoring the number of series and number of teams and just celebrating the actual anniversaries from now on. Though, I guess it works out, because considering LuPat, next up is the 50th Sentai and the 50th anniversary year, and this isn't a chance we'll ever get again.
What can you tell us about the Super Sentai series airing in 2025?
Shirakura: In 2025, after Boonboomger finishes its run, it'll be followed by a new show starring a new Sentai.
A while ago, I was outside Toei when I ran into this guy Ricardo, from Brazil. I was like, "I haven't seen you in six years!", and he told me "Shirakura! I heard about the new Sentai!"
Oh? Looks like someone's here...
