Debian wheezy kvm guest + virtio networking

I have a kvm vps with #frantech for storage, however I've noticed for some time that the vm's network connectivity hangs every once in a while.

- virtio + 3.2.x kernel -> random network hangs - virto + 2.6.x kernel -> great performance - e1k + 3.2.x kenel -> shitty performance

so I guess I'm going to stick with 2.6 for now..

well Delta enlightened me on their IRC chanel: 23:47 <~Delta> virtio networking is gimpy 23:47 <~Delta> it's fixed in ~3.13+

Sziasztok,

Gondolom feltűnt, hogy több oldal is hopp majdnem egy hete nem elérhető..

Igyekszem a helyreállítással haladni, de sajnos kidöglött egy gép alólunk. Egyenlőre a dns-t helyre raktam, a statikus tartalommá konvertálás folyamatban van (részleges mentések vannak csak hála az egy hónappal ezelőtti rohamtempóban végzett költözésnek)...

szóval mentem ami még menthető :). Ha van valami egyéb, szólok..

Frissítés: november 17 -  Az eltelt idő alatt sikerült a legtöbb megmentett tartalmat statikussá átmigrálni. Még keresem a helyet, hogy hova tegyem ki.. Google linkekből szerintem már kb kiestek.

Nem szűnt meg csak átalakul :).

Van egy "kis" nem várt leállás. /kihalt egy dedikált vas/ A továbbiakon gondolkozom-dolgozom. valószínűleg octopress-re lesz migrálva a blog.

Igyekszem mihamarabb visszatérni legalább az érdemi releváns tartalmakkal. (de ez legkorábban július 14-20 között várható )

Laptop reinit -again- start..

The 500gb drive ive bought at 31th december 2013 failed a week ago. I took it back to the hw store where I get it as it had a 1 year warranty. They told me that I should take it to their service station as they are going to send it there anyway only after 3 more days. I just did that: I was told to check back after a week so I've sent them a mail yesterday and got the anwser: the hdd is really faulty (oh really? ive seen the bad sectors in smartctl -a /dev/sdX and after my debian install and windows (even in safe mode) just 'froze to death' multiple times it was no surprise to me) . Anyway I just got the replacement so happy #reinit time.. START..

Upgrade

I've just upgraded the hdd of my laptop so I had enough space to install windows on it (my primary os is Debian of course :) ).

My debian install was way too old and hacked so I did a clean install of Win7 & Wheezy on the new disk.

I had to realize that while it took about 1,5 hour to customize and tweak my debian install (adding native tools&programs,installing crossover,notepad++,flashfxp, gnome3 extensions) and copying my files (firefox&thunderbird profiles etc) the same process of creating a useable system took a few additional days on windows..

Well the first problem was drivers: My laptop is an old hp 6910p but luckily hp kept the drivers up2date so i had no problem finding the right ones for windows 7. The only advantage of Win7 is that the fingerprint reader works without any problem. I had to look around to get it working on debian.

The worst part of the win7 install was to find and disable/kill all the  services,process,autostarters,updaters,preloader/luncher,quickstarters.

I know-I know an operating system should "think" instead of a user these days but that takes a lot of resources i dont have :)

So I'm using debian if I can. but for instance i need visual studio & ms office  etc.. i'm fed up with and running them in a virtual env, as it takes resources away and then i need to set up shared folders and other tweaks. yuck.

Switching database server

Till now I've been using the original mysql server provided by oracle patched by cpanel staff. A few days ago I've switched over to mariadb (a drop-in replacement) which I've been already using on onther machines witch success so far :)

Well the switch was a complete success. The percona provided XtraDB is a way much better storage engine the the previous simple InnoDB..

Cpanel + ipv6 with php-fpm

Well lets give it another try.

Here is the plan to do this:

backup dns zones, disable zone replication

revert back to the usual config provided by cpanel

compile easyapache

Customize the config files once again..

Migráció

Sziasztok,

A migráció sikeresen lezajlott. Nginx-el át van minden proxy-zva az új ip-kre. A dns-ben már frissítve lett minden, lassan beáll az új rend.

egyenlőre a varnish még nincs beállítva, az egyszerűség kedvéért nginx szolgál ki mindent.
