Yoga Parklands of Floyds of Fork
This past summer I met up with Tia Rogers, a fan of the Explore Kentucky project, and we spent an afternoon on a yoga-powered romp through the Parklands of Floyds Fork. Tia is crazy crazy crazy strong: I had her climbing trees, balancing on a floating log, holding poses for minutes—and she was flawless. The reason these photos have just now seen the light of day is because I was worried that they would cause people to negatively judge my photographic abilities. My photographic journey started with film cameras where the photos I produced were as is… I didn’t have any retouch tools or Photoshop. At Campbellsville University, where I really and truly honed my skills photographic skills as a mass communication major. I never learned or sought knowledge in advanced retouching skills. My reason for picking up a camera isn’t to alter the landscapes or people I shoot, it’s more to pay visual homage. I don’t do composites, I don’t meticulously edit objects out of my images, I only use a flash when I have to.. My skills are in properly exposing my images, tack sharp focus, composition, telling a story, chasing interesting light, and working the scene in front of me in real time, not post time.. The thing is, in today’s society, we live in the world of the clone stamp, liquify, & the faux vignette.
So Tia’s photo sat on my Macbook, gathering digital dust, until today.
For me the shoot was about displaying the brilliance of the color of a day almost at the end. It was about conveying the fruits of a healthy and holistic lifestyle through Tia’s strength/womanly beauty. Lastly it was about encouraging people to spend more time enjoying Kentucky’s beautiful natural areas.
Thank you Tia, for allowing me to explore with you and face my fears.
Love,
Gerry
