the best fanfiction you've ever read was written by a woman in her 40s before she made dinner for her kids. it was written by a teenager after school when they should've been studying for a history test. and a barista came up with the idea while they cleaned the espresso machine and busser fact-checked it on their break and the post-doc edited between writing grant proposals and the nurse apologized for typos in the notes after a long shift and behind every drabble and one-shot and multi-chapter fic there is a person with a wonderful and interesting and chaotic life and it is such a privilege that we get to be apart of it because they decided to do this thing we all share, for fun.

Ok, I know we all love our reluctant vampire, our scatterbrained royal guard, our nerdy sheriff, our angry kitsune mother, and Gun-Hat. But can we stop for a moment to appreciate the vengeful flower prince?

Flowey has a larger role in UTY than in the original, and from time to time, we get to see a little Asriel sneak thru. Not like his sickly sweet "golly, you must be so confused" when we first meet him in OGUT, but some real, child-like personality.

And on top of that, some dialogue and talk sprites show a little sympathy for him.

In this game, Flowey gets no redemption arc. I don't mean that as a criticism, it's because his redemption arc is in OG UT, we all know how it goes, and it wouldn't make sense for him to get a redemption arc in the prequel. It's just a statement of fact, he doesn't have a redemption arc in Yellow. So it's nice that the writers put in these little bits of humor and sympathy in his character, reminding us of who he actually is: not some evil demon looking to take over the multiverse, but a bored, scared kid who's learned that everyone he ever loved wasn't who he thought they were.
