“Don’t we forgive everything of a lover? We forgive selfishness, desire, guile. As long as we are the motive for it…”
Three || Sherlock + Jim
"You’re pretty trigger-happy yourself, darling." Jim shot back with disgust in his voice, realizing his theory was falling on deaf ears. But he still didn’t believe that Sherlock actually had a scrap of proof that their world’s still existed, that anything beyond this place they currently lived in existed. Maybe they were all alone in the entire universe, a maddening thought. Maddening if he hadn’t dealt with something similar, that is. "Besides, Holmes, I didn’t say our captors were perfect, rather I said they were imperfect. Believe what you will, perhaps it’s just in your nature to think the better of things, but that does seem rather weird.”
He scrunched his nose at the final word, hardly believing that Sherlock could be thinking of the best scenarios and not considering the worse of them in as well, maybe that’s why he was friends with that strange hippie. Sherlock whimsical and good-hearted, that was laughable and nearly made Jim want to wretch at the same time.
James only shook his head, shrugging his shoulders as he turned away from the detective nonchalantly, “I don’t think we are alike at all. We both have wonderful minds, and you understand there is awfulness in people that causes them to commit crimes but you still have horrible flaws in your logic that I fail to comprehend. No wonder my motive remained a mystery to you even after my death. You must have just dismissed it as madness and nothing more.”
If he really wanted an argument to start, Sherlock could have mentioned the only two times he had shot anyone had been the same person and for good reason. The second time wasn't as necessarily good a reason as the first, but nonetheless, it happened and he didn't regret it, per se. "I am not and you know it," he shot back in annoyance, rolling his eyes. "Gun should be out of bullets anyway, so you have nothing to worry about." Of course, should more appear by some miracle, he wouldn't tell anyone let alone Jim but his point still stood.
"It's not thinking the better of things, it's thinking logically," the detective explained after a heavy sigh, clearly exasperated at still having to debate this. Why the other man was concerning himself with ludicrous theories such as this one was beyond him, but it really was a waste of time, in his own opinion. Time was better spent doing whatever dull activities the criminal had immersed himself in while he was here, anyway, rather than continuing this pointless conversation with Sherlock.
Whatever plan Jim had coming over here, it was clearly gone now and he didn't really have any further business other than continually boring Sherlock. "That is because it was. Now, if there isn't anything else worthwhile you feel you have to tell me, I would appreciate you being on your way." He waved at the door as he said it, hoping the obvious hint would be taken and he could go back to peace.
This Is How I Disappear || Adlock
She could keep on kissing her beloved detective the whole night, just marveling herself with the taste of his mouth and floating on her very own Nirvana, but the complains of the bruises on her lips made her stop, pulling away just enough to look into his eyes. Though she was trying to look serious and perhaps even a little rough, her eyes were way more kind, almost as if pleading.
"Keep that in mind." She muttered. "Think of how unworthy you see that sacrifice and what the idea alone makes you feel. Multiply it fifty times and only then you’d start to make an idea of how I’d feel if you did so because of me." Unlike her eyes, her voice did transmit the desired emotion. It showed how serious she was and how deep he had hurt her when she felt the need of slapping him.
After that, she sighed deeply and tangled her arms around his nape, hiding her face on his neck, only breathing him for a while until her voice finally echoed in the entrance. “Would you help me? I should really get rid of this dress.”
Irene's words seemed ridiculous on their own, since although he would never admit it to anyone else, it had been the second time that he wished something much stronger than cigarettes were readily available to him. Though, to be fair, it didn't occur to him at any time that it would have been a bad idea, since he hadn't cared about anyone like he did the woman. It didn't do well to dwell on those kinds of thoughts, especially since they were both there now, in the flesh rather than mere thoughts. Irene was real, and in his arms and he wouldn't take that for granted.
Sherlock couldn't help but give a quiet chuckle at her confession, though, shaking his head. "I suppose we will have to agree to disagree that our lives are not worth taking," he mused, imagining that the sentiment might have been romantic if it didn't involve such a dark topic. "And the only solution is to not fake any more deaths, got it?" He'd asked it teasingly, but could really do without any more of them, having had enough that he'd gotten tired of it.
He held Irene close as she retreated into him, content to hold her there for as long as she liked. At the request, though, he nodded, gently detaching himself from her. "Shame, you're quite the looker in that one," the detective commented but took her hand, leading her to the bedroom and closet.
Three || Sherlock + Jim
Jim narrowed his eyes, offense clear and present in his expression. Watching the other consultant with a renewed anger for the briefest second as he finally let Sherlock have his hand back. “Then, you’ve had proof our world still exists?”
The criminal snorted disdainfully as he put the gun away in his back pocket, “You know what focus are working so hard to collect us and up until recently make everything earth-like? What would be the benefits of imitating rain or snow for a perfect world? Unless they were doing it for us, Sherlock Holmes? To make it like home. But perhaps not understanding our home.”
Moriarty paused tilting his eyes upward, “A child with an ant farm does the same thing. Doesn’t mean to hurt the ants but to challenge them. Sometimes dropping a rock inside for them to move around. What if we had no place to go back to and someone else took us in?”
Roughly bringing his hand back to his own body, Sherlock not-so-subtly rolled his eyes at the question. "Yes, I've got all the proof in the world," he answered sarcastically, too far annoyed with the situation and the silly questions to bother being civil anymore. "But you haven't any proof that it doesn't exist." Which is why it seemed pointless to argue the point, if neither of them nor anyone else had proof that any of their worlds still existed. And to admit that it didn't was to admit defeat, something he wouldn't be doing in the near future.
"Have you forgotten that events worse than rain and snow have occurred? Forgetting others, addictions we have no control over...I don't recall anything like that happening in our world." The detective was irritated at even having to support the obvious, that they were taken away from their respective homes. He didn't appreciate it, nor the possibility that the criminal was right in his assumption that there was nothing left and that they'd been taken in.
Although it was a nice little theory, Sherlock didn't accept it in the least. "And, if this is truly the last of what is left, seems like all the more reason not to go trigger-happy on everyone, for lack of a better word."

Three || Sherlock + Jim
Moriarty hummed as he noticed how Sherlock looked away from him as he turned the handgun on himself. It was hard to let go of such a great image as making the other even slightly squeamish. Jim could stand to aim a gun at himself all night if his cherished enemy would advert his gaze so mildly.
So he took it a step further, reaching for Sherlock’s wrist in a quick sweeping motion. James forcefully led it up to the weapon, “If you enjoyed that then you should keep going! You don’t have any qualms do you?”
He covered Sherlock’s hand with his own holding it, almost in desperation. “Now… I was laying there in the morgue and thinking, darling. The most wonderful thing occurred to me before Molly Hooper came to rescue me. Don’t you just love her? I was thinking… what if we’re not dead? What if we’re all that’s left.”
Moriarty laughed wholeheartedly, viciously. “What if all I had to do to destroy the whole of all creation was right before me. Because everything else is already dead. My brothers, your brother, my daughter, your parents… everything and everyone gone.”
Only seeing the brief flash of movement from the criminal before he had taken hold of Sherlock's wrist, he jumped at the touch, startled. Immediately, a worst-case scenario came to mind, though there didn't seem to be any ill intent, simply the man's usual and normal theatrics that he had grown quite used to. Still, it was uncomfortable with his hand on the weapon as it remained pointed at Jim's throat, knowing that it wouldn't go off unless a particular slight of hand was lucky enough to make it do so. He kept a weary eye on it rather than try to pull away and possibly invoke more of the other's new-found energy.
"Quite the contrary," he answered in a bored monotone, glancing down to meet Jim's eye. "Couldn't very well kill a man who hasn't done anything yet." Which, considering all that Jim had done and that he had done in turn, would likely constitute doing just that - keep going - they seemed on equal ground at the moment, in his own opinion. Sherlock didn't want to kill anyone and he imagined the man didn't want to die anymore. "That is the only qualm I need." He'd said it mockingly, of course, but it was the truth.
As he listened to the frankly crackpot theory that was currently being delivered, the detective was amazed at how much Jim had actually lost it to believe such a thing, unless this was another puzzle. "That simply sounds like an excuse to kill everyone here," he commented flatly, showing neither appreciation nor fascination by the so-called revelation. "If that is what you believe your goal to be, don't muddy it with balmy reasoning." He did hope that Jim wasn't foolish enough to believe such a theory, especially not whilst in possession of a loaded gun.
This Is How I Disappear || Adlock
It wasn’t sadness what brought her so close to tears. The love of her life was about to move with her, how could she be sad this very moment? It was more some sort of the deepest relief she had felt in a long time. After all, retrospectively, what was Irene Adler’s biggest fear? To be alone. Loneliness was one of her biggest weapons, but also her main curse.
Now, with that intense joy came also a regret almost as strong. Every reason she had for not to put him in danger and tell Sherlock of her plan now seemed ridiculous and unworthy, it was as if she had hurt them both for nothing. What else could she do but beg for his forgiveness? All those feelings mixed with her almost overwhelming tiredness pushed the tears out of her eyes, making her grimace when the salty water touched her wounds for the first time.
"Oh, you should be." She smirked, but her voice was not the same as when she was teasing him. "Sherlock Holmes, shame on you. Can you see what you’ve done? Had you not been here when Norton showed up I would have never think of running to hide, let alone face him!" Her voice lowered a little then, and she had to purse her lips for a second before being able to continue talking. "Not much to fight for here, huh? Had you not been here, my love… I would have never called Jim to help me out of the pond."
After saying that, she looked into his eyes for three whole seconds, making sure he understood what she was talking about. That yet again he had saved her life. Then, her smile softened. She didn’t need to say anything to prove she agreed with the detective. Instead, she placed both her hands on his shoulders and pulled him down softly to press the most tender of kisses on his lips, the most holy promise she would ever make.
The moment the tears began to fall from the woman’s eyes, Sherlock brushed them away with his thumb as best as he could. Some escaped, however, causing him to shake his head but also smile. “Ridiculous,” he murmured more to himself than to her. He wasn’t sure why she was crying, other than perhaps she was genuinely in pain and so dropped his hand, just in case he was making it worse. Something had to be done about those injuries, as soon as they were done here.
Her confession made him stop, tighten his jaw and his hand into a fist, telling himself not to be affected by it. Exhaling deeply, Sherlock shook his head, amazed that he even had to explain this to the woman. “Listen to me, Irene. You’d better not, and I do mean ever. I’m nothing to end your life over, or I suppose in this case, not come back for.” Even saying as much was enough to dampen his mood significantly, though not too much; he did have Irene with him now, after all. It couldn’t have been too bad.
He accepted the kiss immediately, ignoring how adorable he found it that he had to be pulled down to meet her. In all honesty, he had missed this, had missed her with whatever might have been his heart and soul. Knowing affection and then having it so suddenly taken away hadn’t been very pleasant and all, but the soft kiss was a good start for it again, the detective sighing softly against her lips, content in that moment.
Three || Sherlock + Jim
Jim took the weapon, a sluggish glance at it then Sherlock as he smirked softly, “My gun is permanently leased to Gwen Cooper. I did forget to tell her where it’s been, should I feel guilty about that?”
He chuckled as if it were a joke, a wide grin curled on his face as he put it up against his own throat. Neverminding how insane it was to even jokingly put a weapon again’t himself. “Besides a gun is a gun to me. I’m not Moran. It will all kill the same.”
Closing his eyes Jim tilted his head back and slide the weapon up under his chin, a close mouthed mimicry of his previous successful suicide. Explaining calmly, “Now, Sherlock. You despair like an ugly bird from the seashore. Flopping on the sand but trying to do so where most predators can’t see you. I thought it would be an art to see you withering, like drying flowers. But you cave in so quickly it sickens me. You even lack the enlightenment that despair sometimes brings you. You can get addicted to loss and pain, Sherlock. Did it bring you ant joy to know Adler was dead?”
His eyes slivered open to watch the detective curiously. “You were glad to shoot me.”
Realising what the criminal was getting at regarding the direction of the gun, Sherlock shifted uncomfortably, averting his gaze to the floor rather than the display in front of him. It had been one thing to be sprung with the image of someone killing themselves right in front of him, forced to watch it. It was another to witness it again, even if there was no intent to kill now; just the miming of the act was enough to make him look away. Not that Jim should know this knowledge or even comment on it, except perhaps noticing a look of discomfort and a sudden focusing on the ground.
The almost pretentious description of his behaviour made the detective roll his eyes, already tired of listening to the other ramble on. More judgments that he couldn't bring himself to care about, much less pay attention to, though he did catch the very last question. It sounded as if it was purposefully meant to get a rise out of him, though it didn't, his anger at the asking of it showing only in a slight frown.
"Joy? No, I wouldn't say that," he answered finally though not sounding too pleased to do so. "Sorry to disappoint." Obviously that was not the case, but if it meant Jim would take his musings somewhere else, he would say whatever necessary.
With an amused scoff, Sherlock shrugged, not being too definite in his answer. "Somewhat, yes. It's quite the rush. I can understand the appeal though I wouldn't make it a hobby." It might have been a sly dig to Moran, though if Jim didn't catch it, he wouldn't have been surprised.
Earl Grey || Victor + Sherlock
"You make it sound like a usually end up with my face in the loo..." Victor looked pale at the thought his friend could be correct, which is why he should stop getting so upset and turning to alcohol and parties in the first place. Sometimes he needed to live it up and it wasn't harmful normally, just this once when he ended up in another world entirely.
The detective's friend sighed as he glanced at his empty tea cup, unsure of whether or not he wanted another. Wondering about what Sherlock said about the time they had together, "We're not going anywhere for a while... it's scary. I don't like to admit any of it. Because when you say it aloud it gives it power, yea? I should keep bad thoughts to myself."
If Victor was being honest, he would tell Sherlock he was scared someone was going to agree with what he said, that is why he didn't say the awful things he thought of. There was a saying: Don't believe everything you think. Trevor tried very hard not to believe every negative thing he thought about how they might never see home again and would die here. But damn if the fear wasn't persistent.
"I can't make myself think about what happens in worst case scenarios right now. I just have to think about the best of it. Right?"
Sherlock wasn't about to disagree with his friend, but also wouldn't say as much out loud. That was an issue between Victor and Victor, not him, and while he could offer some constructive life advice, he imagined it wouldn't be welcomed, friend or no. Letting the comment brush aside, he did nothing but give a shrug, indicating his neutrality on the subject. He would be a complete hypocrite if he even tried to lecture Vic on the dangers of such a lifestyle.
Giving another shrug, the detective made a non-committal sound of disagreement. "Not necessarily. I suppose it depends on your slant, though you've always seemed like an optimist, unfortunately." Compared to himself, the other man was practically a ray of sunshine, though he imagined any prolonged period of time spent here would quickly suck the shine out of anyone, including Victor.
"So, if it helps to make the best of it, go ahead. Make friends, host a party, I'm not sure. Do whatever it is you normal people do." He smiled a bit to show that he was teasing, trying to give the best advice he could in a situation like this since even after months of being here, he still wasn't truly able to 'make the best of it'.
This Is How I Disappear || Adlock
This had been possibly the most selfish thing she had ever asked — but not done, asking for anything was still a little new for her. Since the moment she decided it’d be better for the three of them if she left Sherlock’s house she saw herself missing already to live with him, but it was only now that it came as a considerable option supported by the fear that the detective had managed to make her see, and mostly, for what he just said.
Laughing softly on his shoulder, she shook her head once and hid her head there. “Don’t be silly” She whispered, allowing herself to feel protected by the heat of his arms. It’d be hard for her to say it aloud, because even now there were things she couldn’t say and that’d maybe only ever admit to herself, but a part of Irene was sure that Sherlock knew she felt exactly like him.
As long as they were together, she didn’t need anything.
Because though she could be the piece of home he was looking for, Sherlock was the only home Irene had ever known. At first she thought it was the Pocket itself but no… how could anyone think of this place as a home? She loved Jim, and Dean, and the Doctor, and Kate, but they were not her home, neither the town. Sherlock was. Her end and her beginning a thousand times.
"Does this mean we’re fine?" She just wasn’t able to keep herself from asking, though the answer was obvious. In fact, deep inside she was hoping to hear him sigh at such a silly question. But it was on her next words where her voice broke. "I’m sorry, Sherlock. I’m so sorry."
That had to have counted as a ‘yes’, though coupled with Irene’s lovely laughter and no hesitance in saying so, Sherlock found himself smiling, holding her closer to him. A change of venue was always a struggle, especially considering the new neighbours - he had been fairly unperturbed by his own neighbours in the south - but it would be worth it to be able to live with her. It was just a bit of normality in this abnormal world, and though he was loath to say so, he was grateful for it.
There wasn’t anything Irene could have said or asked that would have improved his mood or helped the situation, obviously. He was practically over the moon when she asked such a silly question - except it wasn’t, as he hadn’t been sure of the answer just minutes before. About to tell her that of course they were, the detective stopped upon hearing her choke up, pulling away just enough to look her in the eye, telling himself not to be affected by the sight of her upset. It was difficult to do so, but the thought of them now living together was enough for him to keep it together.
“Shh, stop it,” Sherlock ordered gently, reaching out to cup the woman’s cheek. “You don’t have anything to be sorry about.” He wouldn’t have thought he would actually believe that, as disappointed as he had been earlier that Irene had lied to him, but he really couldn’t bring himself to be upset with her anymore. “I’m sorry for putting you in this situation,” he continued with a sigh, unable to think that if he hadn’t been there, she wouldn’t have needed to go to such lengths to protect him or anyone else. “But, we are in this together now. Deal?”
Three || Sherlock + Jim
Jim held Sherlock’s gaze, eyes darting like tiny moths around a light as they watched the detective curiously. Not moving, silent for several minutes in complete before saying: ” I’m not nearly as good at my job as Adler. She can cause you so much pain and suffering but me… “
He laughed as he pushed Sherlock’s hand away from him, not accepting the offer as he slowly and from the appearance of it painfully began to lift himself back up. “… I just wanted you to feel something close to loss beyond repair. I was only curious about what you would do, and I got my answer.”
Moriarty put on his best front but pain was marking his eyes as he finally got to a stand again. Brushing off his clothes, softly lamenting, “I imagine curiosity will be the second death of me. Call this whatever you will… draw or not. I must have the gun back, because it isn’t mine. If it stays here, you’ll only find more problems than you’ll ever need.”
Resisting the urge to roll his eyes, Sherlock instead elected to ignore the quip, not particularly wanting to bring up the subject of the woman at that moment. She was obviously a point of interest for both men and, at the same time, would cause them to bicker, an action that didn’t seem wise when a gun was still present and easily obtained. He couldn’t help but express his annoyance at the dismissal in the form of a frown but quickly brushed it off, retracting his own hand and moving back towards the weapon.
Raising a brow, a wave of curiosity hit the detective and he relaxed, genuinely wanting to know what had enlightened Jim. “Did you? Enlighten me, then,” he offered, keeping the amusement out of his voice. It was always a delight to find out someone else’s way of thinking, especially when it regarded himself, along with the person being possibly the only other one able to truly understand him.
With a sigh, Sherlock reached for the gun, hesitating to hand it over just yet. “Should really get your own,” he mused, turning the firearm over in his hands. “It would be most effective should we ever have to defend ourselves from everyone else.” Finally, he handed it over, convinced that he didn’t necessarily want to cause any more trouble for either of them, as they really didn’t need it. “Or from each other.”
This Is How I Disappear || Adlock
And just as that, the Pocket was suddenly not as wonderful for Irene as it had been despite everything.
Sherlock was right. That place lacked of logic entirely, the fact itself of them sharing air with creatures that just eight months ago were inventions of delusional religious fanatics or Star Trek fans should have been enough to throw her down entirely the first moment she stepped in town. But she had been too distracted hiding her own demons to realize how alarming all that was. Now that they were gone, she could see their situation more clearly. And she didn’t like it, though it wasn’t entirely because of her. The fact that Sherlock was afraid, scared her a little too.
But what he said next made her heart beat a little faster and that cold fear melted with the sudden realization of what he said. A part of her didn’t like the sound of that just for a moment when the idea of letting him down crossed her mind, but was washed away by an immense happiness that made her hug him even despite the pain, it was completely unnoticeable at the moment at least. The urge of holding him closer was bigger than her injuries.
"Come live with me." She muttered before being able to hold herself.
The offer caught him by surprise though after shaking the idea around in his head for a second, the detective realised it was the best possible thing to do in this situation. Being with Irene here was like his own little slice of home, something he had been desperately searching for. Of course, he and Meg were close friends, though she was always a reminder of the situation at hand and his discomfort with it. The change also meant that she would now have more room and wouldn’t need to cook for him now, as grateful as he had been that she’d done so.
These considerations all passed through his mind in a flash as the woman hugged him, Sherlock not able to suppress a smile that crossed his features, grateful that she wasn’t able to see it. He was careful in hugging her back. “Think you can stand me as a roommate?” he asked teasingly though with a hint of genuine curiosity. He was aware of how much of a pain he could be, though if Irene thought she could handle it, he would move in that very night.
It was something that…normal couples did, normally after having spent a longer time together, but they certainly weren’t normal, he rationalised, silencing the doubts and alarms. He hadn’t even been sure that they were still just that before coming over here, though with Irene in his arms safe - but not exactly sound, not that he would want her to be - he only wished to keep an eye on her at the moment. Not protect, as he wouldn’t admit to such a thing, but something close to it.
This Is How I Disappear || Adlock
Irene only managed to frown softly at Sherlock’s words, but it was not the gesture one who was afraid would make. Precisely because she understood and saw more than legit the reasons for Sherlock’s fear, just a hint of it started to grow inside her heart.
This were the facts: Norton was no longer a threat for her, and if anything, the mention of two persons wanting to hurt her beloved detective mostly pissed her quite a lot. Concern and anger where the dominant emotions in her, but she was aware this was not the time to show any of those, even less the little fear she felt. So she moved directely to the subject where she could just not think the same way as him.
"We don’t belong here…" She repeated after a while in complete silence, pressing a little the hand that hold his, not breaking eye contact. "Well none of us does, but does it really matter?" A small smile appeared in her wounded lips, not big enough for them to hurt but yes to light a little her face.
"It’s new and lacks completely of logic, so what? We both know there are worst things than being trapped here." Raising her free hand, she brushed some curls beneath his ears with loving fingers, not sure of what to do to make him feel better and that was she feared the most. "There’s a lot of people that loves you here, and we won’t let anything happen to you. You’re safe."
Catching Irene's hand, though gently, remembering that she was still injured, Sherlock huffed out a sigh. He would have loved nothing more than to agree with her logic but couldn't bring himself to, couldn't delude himself into thinking that this situation was completely fine. Sure, the woman was there with him, which certainly made it better, but they belonged in London. Or, Irene belonged wherever it was that she had been before she arrived here.
"Yes, it matters," the detective protested softly, albeit somewhat desperately. It had been simple to keep quiet for the most part about his issues with everyone being here, not that it mattered what he had to complain about anyway. "You're aware of who I am. How much I depend on logic." It was all Sherlock had to go on, what never failed no matter what, except for this place. There was no logic whatsoever and it messed with his head, even made him doubt simple things that didn't require higher thinking.
Still, she was trying her best to comfort him, and he couldn't fault her for that. "I don't need anyone else. I've got you, don't I?" he asked, releasing her hand and instead bringing his own to her cheek, stroking it lightly with his thumb. Everyone else in the universe or in the town could be out to get him at that moment and it wouldn't matter, as long as Irene was there with him.
nakedinyourmindpalace replied to your post “so your gf just confessed she wouldn't mind sleeping with other six women and she's flirting constantly with basically anything that looks humanoid even though she has you, basically she's becoming the female harkness of your world, sounds a lot like jack and ianto in fact, anything to say?”
I do indeed, but though it might be a cheeky cliche, I would never cheat on you. ... Unless of course I found anyone who'd wear better that purple shirt of yours.
That was probably meant to be reassuring, but I'm just a bit paranoid now.
so your gf just confessed she wouldn't mind sleeping with other six women and she's flirting constantly with basically anything that looks humanoid even though she has you, basically she's becoming the female harkness of your world, sounds a lot like jack and ianto in fact, anything to say?
And? I would not mind sleeping with many people here. Just a matter of taste. It would only become a problem if she acted on said actions. I'm not sure what you're meaning to tell me here, other than 'keep an eye on your girlfriend'. It's a nice little concept but I both trust her and know that she does what she likes anyway.
What if.
Or back home. Or anywhere. I highly doubt it’s any better in other planets. I forgot entirely why I used to think it was so special.
Marriage could, in theory, be special. It simply rarely works out - relies solely on the two participants of it. I say avoid the mess entirely.
