If you have vitiligo like me you will be delighted to know that you can get your color back. I tried everything in the US and not only did it not work, one time I was injured from a treatment. I found a treatment on the internet a few years ago and I wanted to do it, but I thought it would be too expensive. Then my vitiligo started spreading rapidly so much so that it was itching all over my body and every few days I could see more white areas. I went to a specialist to be bleached and she said it could be done but it is permanent and dangerous. I would have to put on the bleaching cream nightly for eight months and be very careful not to touch anyone. That is when the decision was made to travel to Germany to meet Dr. Schallreuter about her treatment. At this point, I didn’t even know if it would work, but I wanted to take the chance before bleaching myself. It was a wonderful experience and after the blood work it was decided I would be a good candidate for the treatment. She says it is not a cure, however, when you turn almost completely white and then start to get color back it feels like a cure. I am now mostly tan and I continually get more color. I have special prescription UVB lights in my house and two creams I purchase from Dr. Schallreuter. I put the cream on and face the lights for 15 seconds per side. When I first did this, it took 37 days to see color which first appear as tiny dots then get bigger then connect, but after that it just kept on working! It is an investment so you have to weigh the decision for treatment. A friend that I met because of the treatment had a great point you can have a car or you can have colored skin again. You decide. Of course we went to the Dead Sea in Jordan with the doctor for three weeks too so our investment was a bit more. This is something that helps but is not necessary. Here are some costs you should think about: 1. round trip plane ticket from your city to Germany (probably Berlin). My cost: about $1,000USD. 2. Blood work in your country to be able to take results with you. My cost: $15 co-pay. 3. Blood work, treatment plan, first bottles of cream, etc. for 1 ½ days in Germany while at the University of Greifswald. My cost: about 600Euro. 4. Two night minimum stay in Greifswald and food while you are there: My cost: about $300. 5. Prescription UVB lights. This cost varies depending on which county you live in. My cost: $3,000USD. 6. Monthly bottle of cream. My cost: About 92Euro. You should order two or more bottle each time because to ship it to the USA it is about 80Euro each time. Will I have to do this treatment forever? I don’t know and honestly, I really don’t care. The cream is wonderful for my skin it makes it super smooth and soft. Also, I had avoided the sun for over 15 years. I would go out but cover my skin with sunscreen and clothing and because of this I had unknowingly developed Vitamin D deficiency which gave me very strange symptoms that multiple specialists couldn’t figure out. My treatment cured my Vitamin D deficiency as well. Some of the symptoms were numbness, severe tiredness, and foggy thinking. http://www.vitiligo.eu.com/ It is worth looking into. Plus, if you decide to go now you know how much you need to save. Email the doctor and get information for yourself. I believe that she sets appointment for late summer through the fall. I fell in love with Germany and Jordan and I will go back as I can afford again and again for the remainder of my life. I wish you the best and a complete peacefulness in your skin just the way it is.
Hi! I am still having success with my vitiligo treatment from the University of Greifswald, Germany by Professor Schallreuter. Â http://www.vitiligo.eu.com/Â Sorry I have not posted in awhile. My main goal at first was to just get it out there in case you did not know about it. I will get back to posting now. One thing I want you to know is it is NOT true to avoid the sun...it is very bad to totally avoid the sun like I did for around 15 years. It will make you very ill. The sun and the UV lights plus the two creams are bringing back my color and my health. My vitamin D levels had dropped low for so long it mimicked MS, fibromylagia, strokes, arthritis, hormone issues, female issues, and diabetes to name a few. Some people have success just using the sun to reverse vitiligo. If you do this you go in the sun each day starting out with 3-5 minutes on all four sides check white skin each morning if it is not pink at all add 1-3 minutes each day until it is a very light pink the next morning. Medium or dark pink is VERY bad. This will bring your color back. It will start as dots then connect then the colors will blend. Wishing you a colorful 2015!Â
I am going to start do my treatment properly every day for 60 days. Let’s watch and see how much color I get. When I first started this it took 37 days to get color and I have been so busy with work I put myself last so I have only been treating my hands and face once per day and that is NOT what the Dr. ordered. No more. I feel better when I do the treatment and I already know it works. Here we go…
can i have the names of the creams you've used for the treatment please ?
The one I am using now is from Dr. Schallreuter in Greifswald Germany. She has a few creams. I use cream 10 and cream 3. All of her patients use cream 10. It is a pseudocatalase cream. She invented it and others copy it. Her cream is the only one that is 100% safe and works. I have also used Aldara on a spot of my chest(14 years ago and it worked pretty well. It is not 100% safe and I started having kids and stopped trying it. I only had samples from a Dr. Aldara is not for vitiligo it is for and STD (genital warts) but he said a Sr. in CA was having success with it. It comes in tiny packets in a little box and I have lots of vitiligo. Plus if insurance does not pay for it it is $750 a box! I used a Psorelen drug (Generic) and I got 2nd and 3rd degree burns. Plus those if they do get you color it doesn't stay anyway. I highly recommend taking a friend or family member and having a fun trip to see Dr. S and us the cream. Email her and make an appt. I had a blast and it has changed my life forever. You will need a UVB lightbox at your house or live way south like Miami. Let me know if you want to know anything else. Good luck!
I used to use Dermablend for my face and neck and when I only had a few spots on my arms, fingers and feet. It works really well for women. I am not sure how a man would feel about it. To me it is thick, but it stays on all day and maybe longer if you use setting powder and take your time. I used a soft makeup sponge to apply it them powder puff to put on lots of setting powder. (Powder looks white at first but dont worry) Wait 10 minutes then with a huge but very soft make up bruch you brush off powder. Then if you are female you can apply bronzer and the rest of your makeup. Your skin will look perfect and comes in lots of colors. The best way to buy it is to go to department store with clean skin and rub samples on until you find perfect match. Some are too pink or yellow for me. The body makeup is 100% waterproof and works great too. I think only for small areas, but it is possible to cover you entire body like the guy Rico that is covered in tatoos. There is a Dermablend youtube video about covering his tatoos. I dont use this anymore because my treatment requires that I do not use titanium dioxide on my skin, but for years I did and loved it.Â
My husband has a friend in another state that I havent seen in a few years. This friend has vitiligo now on his hands, arms and face. He stays out of the sun like the US doctors say and it keeps growing. Just like me for over 15 years. My husband told him about my experience with the treatment, how the sun brought up my vit D level so now I feel better as well, and how sometimes if you get enough sun for some people you might get some color especially if the skin gets a little pink. Guess what? The friend tried it and not very long after it actually started working. He isn't even using the cream yet and he is getting dots. I couldn't tell you if this would have worked for me b/c I was too scared to try it before Dr. Schallreuter's treatment. The US doctors had me scared of the sun and I had worked hard to keep my naturally darker areas as light as I could thinking the vitiligo wouldn't show as much. I am so happy for him. I dont know if it will be stable but he lives very south so maybe he can get sun all year.Â
