I truly can’t find words to express the emotions after Taylor finishes the Man with all those little girls around her and they are hugging and then the opening chords of Love Story are beginning and it’s just such a reminder of the powerful impact Taylor has had for so many girls. Now as a 21 year old, she continues to inspire waves of new generations of powerful, articulate, strong females who will not back down or be intimidated. Taylor turning 30 and continuing to FIGHT for her art means there are countless of girls who, like me, will be able to grow up with this fearless role model. Taylor’s fight for her music isn’t just for her, but for the legions of girls who come after so they can have their voice as well. And that is beautiful. @taylorswift

Taylor said there’s a lot of things that came into play when writing this. First, she talked about how America plays up this idea of the “high school American Dream” and they revere these big pompous acts of celebration, like homecoming, prom, football games, etc. So in middle/high school, she was obsessed with the idea of this fantasy and being in the popular clique and being accepted. She talked about how she was kind of bullied in middle school because she didn’t fit in. But then she moved to Nashville and she met Abigail and suddenly she realized that all you need is one person to hang out with on the bleachers during football games and you don’t need other high school things. THEN she talked about the political landscape and how she sees high school (and her subsequent disillusionment with it) as a really good metaphor for the political landscape. She talked about how she used to be obsessed with fourth of July, but that she has an inflatable waterslide that she hasn’t blown up for like three years. She explained that the political landscape is kind of like what high school is like: this uneasy, sometimes terrible place where you feel like you don’t belong, but you need just one person (and she implied that Joe is that person now) to help you get through times like this!
