Steam clouded the image in a small mirror that harbored a shaggy mop of onyx tresses framing high cheekbones, mismatched eyes and a lopsided grin. For someone who had a nonchalant attitude about most everything to do with his looks, the boy reflected was spending an awful lot of time and care on his appearance. The fringe of black bangs wouldn’t lay quite right, no matter how thin fingers fussed at them and over-sized ears appeared to be particularly on display today no matter his wishes otherwise.
Sighing in defeat, Chanshik stepped back to get as best a look he could at the whole picture he presented. Fancy threads were not a luxury that the youth splurged on, so it was typical wear that he sported, namely a black baseball tee and midnight blue jeans, certainly nothing to denote he was heading out. Though, this particular pair of pants was definitely a little tight, having been a gift from a friend who’d said they made his cute butt look better. They were also the only ones clean at the moment.
A quick check of the numbers emblazoned across his phone’s screen told the young man that it was a quarter to seven and just about time for the appointed meeting with his adorable new acquaintance. Callused palms patted down the lean frame, double checking for keys, wallet and anything possibly out of place. With a last glance about the tiny, but tidy apartment, the student swept out the door, locking and flipping the deadbolt behind him. By the tall fellow’s own admission, he was most likely to be early and Chanshik had this devilish urge to keep up the innocent, albeit naive and way too disarmingly charming, mistaken notion that the clerk actually lived in the toy store below him alive in the other’s mind.
Jogging down the stairs to bounce off the last step, he slid hands into jeans pockets and glanced about hoping he wasn’t too late to keep up the illusion while simultaneously wishing it didn’t make him seem overeager.
Fashion was not an interest of Sungyeol's, and most of the time, he couldn't be bothered to check whether his clothes matched or if his hair laid down flat. So there was a lot to be said about the fact that the utterly lacking of style student checked over his appearance, for a moment or two, in his bathroom mirror. Never having developed his own sense after leaving his parent's home, Sungyeol's closet mostly consisted of things reminiscent of the clothes his mother bought for him in his youth. Typical nerd attire, such as khaki slacks and various colored long-sleeved button up shirts. Even during the summer, when bright sunlight would attack at covered up skin, the shy boy kept the majority of his frame from sight.
After deciding that his outfit fit together, other than his mismatched socks, because all their partners decided to evaporate into thin air apparently, he left, after making sure the legs of his pants covered up his ankles. Despite having his driver's license, Sungyeol was rather afraid to drive alone, due to minor issues with anxiety, yet having someone chauffeur him around, whilst hanging out with a possible friend, felt too strange. It took an hour of convincing a worried parent, over the phone, that he'd be alright on his own. But honestly, he wasn't too sure, as his hands situated themselves at the ten o'clock and two o'clock position on the steering wheel of a luxurious car, whose price would make most faint.
Never had the bespectacled gamer had an outing with someone, "just because". Sure, he had acquaintances, but most came into contact with him for the obvious studying perks. If Chanshik were to find out who he was, would he try to use him in the same way too? This was the feeling that nagged at Sungyeol's insides, as he made the drive to his favorite location. Of course it was easy, he could make the trip with his eyes closed, though that would be breaking every rule in regards to safety. But, as he waved and grinned brightly, at the other male in front of the building he adored so, and made sure to turn off whatever video game soundtrack that was being used for background noise, there was no denying the shot nerves and dry throat currently plaguing him.
