Sen handed Jordan a test tube, complete with a tiny umbrella and straw. They'd been working on refining an experimental tonic and they were pretty sure it was working. It was based on a different tonic that had the unintended consequences of turning one's hair Hot Pink when ingested. "Here, drink this." They waved their hands with gusto. "It should now reflect your mood instead of just turning pink!!! Honestly I'm still not quite sure why it was pink the first time."

Dorian had been quite adamant in his usual way that Jannik stop making so many notes, but the address was in a neighbourhood Jannik thought he hadn't visited before. So the directions were written simply enough for Jannik to follow, and no so well explained that people would know where they directed from, or too. The only issue: someone had stopped Jannik for a chat, and now with his concentration thrown, he wasn't sure which left turn was the correct one.
"I uh..." he tried not to look at the man out of fear of losing his bearings again, "it said turn left...but I don't know if I did that already."
The guy was very pointedly avoiding eye contact. Zariad wasn't sure if it was because the stranger was super weird or because his own resting face was not welcoming. "Well you've taken about 20 lefts, in order to circle by me."
Giselle's barely finished slipping on her favorite pair of stilettos, taking just a moment to admire her first outfit of the weekend in the mirror, when a gentle knock reaches her ears. A soft sigh is Giselle's first reaction. Does she feel a mild pang of guilt that she's concocting a spur-of-the-moment excuse for her plans tonight as to why her roommate couldn't possibly accompany her (doesn't everyone organize tax paperwork for their business in an emerald cocktail dress?) Well... perhaps, but Giselle seems to have no problem ignoring it as her heels clack across the floors, already spinning her web of stories. "I forgot to tell you, unfortunately I won't be around tonight to watch a--" Her sentence trails off immediately at the sight of her roommate.
It's still second nature to lie to herself that she's unattached to Elya, and it happens deep within her subconscious again as Giselle momentarily forgets her desire to be sipping on champagne and dancing. "What's wrong?" Her saccharine sweet tone lowers as she immediately glances down the hallway to ensure Elya's immediate physical safety. A small breath of relief follows as she mentions a shark. Giselle steps closer, one hand hovering just over Elya's cheek, as if asking permission to touch her. "A shark? Well, it's a good thing I'm particularly skilled at defeating anything from the ocean," she tells her with a very small smile. "How can I help get rid of him? ... What if his teeth were made of candy corn?"
In her normal day to day life, Elya didn't mind the fact that she saw things that other people could not. It was just part of the whole slightly package for her. Sometimes the hallucinations even felt helpful, as if giving her insight into other people's moods. Every once in a while though, she'd see something terrifying. She couldn't think of a way to explain just how menacing and unsettling the thing she was seeing was.
Elya leaned into the hand her roommate extended. Her shoulders dropped slightly as the physical contact grounded her. The brunette isn't quite sure how her roommate intends to defeat a shark that she can't see, but Giselle sounds so sure of herself that Elya has to believe her. And maybe put more seafood on the weekly dinner menu? Would that be like defeating something from the ocean? "I don't know, I usually just wait out the bad things. I've never been able to get rid of them myself."

It's Marlana's own fault, really. She'd been in the middle of trolling one of the Sinclairs on Murmur with a burner account when she finally bothered to notice her surroundings. There's a growing number of people Marlana avoids, but the cherry on top of that list? Taking a smoke break right in front of her. Fuck. ... She hadn't meant to hiss that out loud. Thoughtlessly, she had ducked behind the Squeakers building corner, but clearly not fast enough. It's instinct that has Lana rolling her eyes as she slinks back into view like an annoyed cat. "Shut up. I wasn't hiding, Kholi -- I tripped." She crosses her arms and leans one shoulder against the wall of Squeaker's as if she's perfectly un-avoidant -- well, after glancing around once to ensure they're alone. "Some of us had to skip breakfast and work an almost double because their idiot coworker missed their shift, only for the radio to glitch out and play the same fucking song for two hours without turning off -- well, it did after I finallly -- my point is: I am not dealing with you when I'm twelve steps past irritable right now, so can we just pretend I said something so harsh and insensitive that you'll think about it for a week and then go our separate ways?"
The cigarette rests loosely in his mouth as he watches Lana walk reluctantly back into the alley. He raises a singular brow at her while she offers a stupid explanation. "Yes well, I would agree that you are often 'tripping'." Quietly, he huffs out a small laugh at his own joke. Lana is acting crazy about 99% of the time in his opinion. Zariad's next exhale fills the empty space between them with smoke. "Rather bold of you to assert that you could say something to me that I would have to think about for an entire week, don't you think?"

Sen smiled gratefully at Lana after their shots were poured, turning to face Matty. "Alright buddy, bottoms up. And I mean the shot, not you." They stuck their tongue out at him before tipping back their own. It burned its way down their throat and they winced. "They need to invent alcohol that tastes good and gets you drunk really fast." Sen hadn't necessarily intended to spend a night drinking with Matty, but he'd shown up while they were bothering Lana at work and here they were.
where: sen's lab, the office space who: @arcanae (unity)
Sen set down a folder full of census data for Hiraeth with a groan before letting their head thunk down on top of it. "This is infuriating. Why can't we find any kind of pattern? There has to be something that everyone who becomes slightly has in common right?" They peer up, still resting their head on the table at their newest research partner. It shouldn't have been a surprise considering how long Sen had worked on figuring this out with little progress. The only bright spot was that the drive to keep trying no matter how many failures they experienced was one of their best traits. "Did you manage to get them to give you copies of your brain scans and other medical stuff?"

Zariad dragged his hands down his face slowly, letting them drag along his eyelids and cheeks. He exhaled in a long sigh before opening his eyes again and looking at his coworker. "For the love of the thin, thin thread connecting me to my own mental sanity I am begging you. Never say that again."

Elya dragged Matty along behind her, giggling as the sound of their feet slapped against the stone walkway. "Almost there!" The sun was high in the sky, a warm breeze moving through the manicured trees slowly. By all accounts a perfect summer day, and she'd decided they had to make the most of it. Finally her footsteps slowed and she let go of her friend's hand to flop onto the grass and lean back. "It's the perfect day for cloud watching, don't you think?" She patted the grass beside her as an invitation. "Help me find the cool shaped ones!"
