is there a reason certain villagers copy certain mobs or is it just random (or for fun on your part lmao) ?

You see this is a dangerous question bc I’m this close to building a whole villager culture thing (complete with universal stuff vs specific worlds’ stuff) and I have not spare time for it fkdlajfldjlaa. So the rest of this answers are just things I have in mind without consideration for the canon I have going on

They can only mimic mobs they’ve seen. Wither mimics almost universally hate players. These facts are related

Some prefer a rare mob or one not found in their current biome

Herders often mimic their herd animal, as do hunters their prey

Kids can’t shapeshift, bc picking out your shapeshifting kid in a bunch of shapeshifting kids is a nightmare I don’t wanna cause

Sometimes it’s for convenience. Snowy biomes dwellers are either brightly colored or white, depending on if you need to be easily spotted or not

Traders are often nether mobs for bragging rights. It’s also just plain unsettling and they’re all for that vibe

If they have frequent contact with players they might pick up on our symbolism for animals, otherwise they have their own system, which I haven’t thought up
