Woe, fucked up childhood upon Giovanni

Giovanni's the type of person who, in his childhood, was given a cubone by his mom, who fully intend for him to get fed up with such a fussy pokemon and get turned off pokemon training altogether.

And he came home one day saying it ran off and his mom (canonical pokemon hater) reassures him that it's not his fault and pokemon leaves because it's what they do. He in turn would shrug it off saying he doesn't like it anyways so it's fine.

Cut to a bridge over the water and a dog leash tied to the railing, the other end submerged.

(One of the pokemon he has in the game is a Kangaskhan, which could mean anything)

(The Cubone line is Ground-type, which could also mean anything)

Darkrai would see the sad humor in it but Mewtwo would be sooo annoyed. The list of people it can relate to is 2 items long (Mew and Giovanni) and this Complete Rando It Never Met keeps pinging its That's Literally Me senses in all the wrong ways. How dare your thought process be understandable to me yet your actions be opposite from mine ect

Gotta be honest, your comics are the thing that made me realize darkrai's scarf thing is, in fact, a scarf thing and not what i thought it was, which was previously a giant weird jaw/underbite

Which is funny because I draw it wrong like, 100% of the time (I sketched with the reference open the very first time I drew it and just relied on my memory since) (don't do this)

This is written with the knowledge of all the actions game freak wrote Giovanni with over the last 30 years, so I can't exactly blame them for not taking the individual steps when it could have happened, but man. Giovanni as a character would be so much more coherent and less pathetic if he was young in gen 1

The cockiness and the easy defeat and the dismissing the player because they're a child and he's a grown-up doesn't make sense on a seasoned mob boss, but it would make more sense on an early 20s yakuza heir first foray into the family business. He's allowed to do business on behalf of his family, but he doesn't have to worry about consequences because he's not in charge of anything major yet. If it turns out he's bad at crimes he could just be a pokemon trainer.

But then Silver happened and he had to take a real hard look at what he's doing and if his life is one he wants to pass on. Maybe take a break from Team Rocket to think it through. This man knows how to lie and charm, if he wants Silver to join the family business the kid has zero option; but instead he said the exact things necessary to turn his son away from crimes forever. He himself chose to fully commit to organized crime, and this is where we get the ambitious supervillainry that spawns Team Rainbow Rocket, because when he truly dedicate himself to it, he's horrifyingly good at being a mob boss.

This has two benefits 1) canonizes his mom Madame Boss who appeared Once in an audio drama, because we need more scary older women who would kill me I mean us 2) let him parallel the original players: as you grow from a child to a young adult, he grows from a young adult to a middle aged man, and on top of that a dark example on what total dedication to "be the very best" looks like

I'm still marinating on the details in my head, and I have to set up a Lot of details in smaller comics beforehand, but I can tell you about the guardrails I bumped into while tweaking the original idea at least!

The Giovanni and Mewtwo partnership is almost sweetly loyal and respectful on both ends. Giovanni doesn't force Mewtwo to do anything; rather it's that being with him allows it to be the worst version of itself

Narratively, Mewtwo will not be rescued, although there might be attempts. It's not a woobie or the victim here, it got itself into this situation, how and when it breaks out of it is its own choice

Much like how getting shittily therapized is likely to make you more effective at manipulation, Mewtwo will use the life skills its friends gave it for evil

Ultimately it's a choice between easy, thought-terminating apathy (being Giovanni's right hand mon) (it knows he doesn't see it as a person) (but why should it care?) and putting in The Work

There will be permanent consequences for this stunt

Perfect IVs because I have to make it the default for Legendaries or I'll go mad putting Details into it

Hapazard natural EVs like Darkrai because Sometimes People Do Want To Fight God and battling is fun, but especially high SpAtk and Speed because Darkrai keeps letting it win when they battle

Hi yes I would like to hear why the Kantonian government sucks bc I like to see how people characterize pokemon regions

I think (and I might change my mind on this in the future) Kanto would react to the sheer level of corruption Team Rocket achieved and it being known as "the one where trainer sprites had whips, a peeping tom old man, kids wandering into casino (even though Hoenn also had this), ect" by being intensely aggressive towards anyone poking at its problems. Which it totally doesn't have anymore.

I just think it's fun to make the Big Nostalgia Region the one trying to forget its past

But basically, she's being affected because the champion position in Sommei is basically head of the government branch that handles Pokemon-Human relations, and rehabbing Mewtwo falls under her jurisdiction

The Kantonian government doesn't address her specifically, they address her government, firmly asking them to share any and all research and data they have on Mewtwo so they can decide how to meddle/kill Mewtwo

And her superiors came to her more or less saying "We're on the same side here but you're 24 and the last thing we need is Kanto thinking we're pushovers OR Kanto thinking we're hiding stuff from them and sending spies OR bad phrasing turning this into a category 5 International Relations incident, so you're gonna sit down and explain to us (not Pokemon people) everything you have, their ramifications, and we'll decide what to redact. Do this weekly."

And the worst thing is she can't even protest because inviting Mewtwo here was her proposal in the first place, knowing that this is a likely risk!! She made this bed!!!
