A song I made, inspired by Turn A Gundam. It’s been a long time in the making but it’s finally here and I’m very proud of it.
It’s coming back around again
Leaves are turning yellow, red, and brown again
I’m still learning all the rhythms of our life here
Rain streaks the windows as east winds rise
Storms are coming, storms that we both recognise
For this is what we got when we arrived here
The thunder of the war-ships in the sky
The lightning flash of cannons in the quiet peaceful night
So blindingly bright, above our home
I’ve seen this kind of violence before
The howling winds of war that come uprooting all the trees
That for many centuries have grown
But at least I won’t have to weather it alone.
The first snow falls on the wheat fields
And my eyes fall on the cold steel
Of the swords we turned into ploughshares
And for the people of this green earth that I fought so hard
Not for glory, not for conquest, not for battle scars
But to carry out the dreams of our forebears
The rumblings in the war rooms have returned
From those so keen to burn down all the progress that we made
The foundations that were laid, not long ago
To piloting an ancient war machine
For you and I have cleaned too many linens soaked in blood
For people dying in the mud, not to know
How much is lost when you let that hatred grow.
The moon shines down on the mountainside
The night breeze blowing through the pines
And my heart is filled with wonder
Of all we gain when we start to understand
The people who’ve been living on this fertile land
How could we ever tear this place asunder?
A butterfly could set it all ablaze
Are we doomed to repeat the darkest days of history
Can we escape our gravity and not fall?
As spring melts into summer’s verdant green
I see your figure gleaming from atop the distant hill
You have always found the will to stand tall
And I know now that we’re not alone
Our destiny’s not set in stone
The earth and moon can be a home for all.
