Whipstaff Manor is like. My favorite part of Casper, that set is GONGEOUS. It really has a lot of character... hmmmm
I've been thinking about the trio's parents and I've seen a large consensus that their dad was not good, but haven't seen loads on their mama!
Florence Whipstaff is my take on the original owner of the manor (her father built it and was like my wonderful daughter. It is yours #thefamilywasfilledwithloveonce) and when she died she was the first to haunt it, but not as a ghost. She couldn't bare to part with her children and wanted to watch over them, especially since their father was still living in the house, so she became a sort of poultergiest and doesn't have a physical from, instead she is Whipstaff Manor (Monster House style)
I think her spirit is what tied everyone else to the manor after the Mcfaddens died, she's loving but also crazy possessive (ha) and won't let anyone go.
In life I imagine she was this very eccentric, intense woman who had an affinity for the macabre. She was this crazy, sort of scary lady but above everything she else she adored her house and family.
Originally I drew her with more sharp edges then I remembered the manor has like NO corners lol, it's all sweeping curves and spiraaalsss (and in light it's like, way more orange than red lol whoops)
Was really inspired by @mpsansy 's artwork/backstory for who this character could've been and also @manofmayayay 's OC Marie and how her spirit became a part of Whipstaff! You guys are so creative anytime I see your ideas I'm like rotating them around in my brain so much <33
Only if you have the time and you like the idea! Could you do a scene introducing Kibosh, maybe as the trio's cousin? I've always liked that idea

OKAY I HAVE TO ADMIT SOMETHING...
I have never seen A Spirited Beginning/ haunted christmas/scare school. My extent of Casper media knowledge is the 1995 movie (#big obsession), the animated series that followed it and then the 50's cartoons. Spirited Beginning isn't one of the films I watched as a kid, THAT BEING SAID the whole thing is just like. On youtube so. My evening plans. They are planning.
On a side note though I do know of Kibosh and Snivel (idk if there are any other significant characters from this film lol) and I like Kibosh's design (no comment on Snivel), so I'll probably draw him at some point!
ALSO I know that A Spirited Beginning and Casper meets Wendy were so bad they bombed Casper's chances of a proper big screen sequel, but like tiny Hilary Duff is so adorable in the second one so I think it's excusable. A Spirited Beginning however... WHOSE to say

RAAGGH this is so exciting!! Thank you both so much for being curious about her. To start off, Marie has bluish eyes similar to Casper’s. Y’know, from the 95 movie.
Unfortunately she’s still kind of a work in progress :(( especially personality-wise, she’s a little bland in that department. But here’s what I have so far in terms of backstory:
Marie McFadden (maiden name was Marie Whipstaff) was happily married to J.T until she died giving birth to Casper. I want to stick to the original movie’s story, so that’s why Casper doesn’t mention her besides the dress. Because he never knew her.

Fun fact: The Lazarus was originally made for Marie. J.T began working on it after her death. There was a really long period where he stopped building it so he could focus on Casper. He felt that loving his son would help him move on and not dwell on the past, and it worked for a while, he was feeling more sane……. until Casper died too. Sooo you know the rest
I think Marie would go into a really, really long and heavy resting period. A type of coma where you can hear bits and pieces of voices. Of conversations inside the manor

Her spirit could be part of the house I guess?? I don’t know what exactly the steps are that awaken her. But it’s definitely triggered by Kat and Casper digging for more memories.

When she returns, she’s really disoriented. But when she makes contact with Casper, she immediately knows that he’s her son. The bits and pieces of conversations she heard in her rest slowly come together and she begins to realize Casper’s situation. And to say she is infuriated is an understatement. The Ghostly Trio is lucky that she’s a weak fighter. Her sharp tongue is at least enough to keep them away.
Aaand that’s all I have ouuuuugh 😓 I was thinking about mentioning her conflict with Stretch but I realized that was more about him and his personal failures (and extreme envy of J.T.) than Marie. (there’s a few hints of that conflict in my marie hashtag if you’re curious 😛)

Hi hi hi!! First of all thank you so much, that means a lot to me I'm glad you like it <33 and absolutely YES I have thoughts...
SO starting with backstory stuff (This is a lot of text but I will try to condense) in my mind, J.T inherited Whipstaff where he got married and lived with his wife, all good happy stuff for the first couple of years. Fatso, Stinkie and Stretch are all busy working but swing by for birthdays and holidays etc, all is good with the McFaddens.
Stretch is around the most, as he and J.T are business partners but ALSO because he's also got some lingering feelings for J.T's wife from when they knew each other in childhood, so he makes excuses to visit when he can (tut tut).
J.T was never a family man (taking very much after his own father who was not winning any dad of the year awards), and married more out of convenience than anything BUT when he noticed something going on between his wife and Stretch he decided to have Casper as a way of being like, hey man that's my wife know where you stand, and just has a baby about it (I DON'T KNOW IF I'M EXPLAINING THIS WELL LOL but know that Casper wasn't born out of love, but of J.T trying to one up his brother)
Stretch and J.T's relationship, which had always been delicate, really started to deteriorate.
Stretch watched Casper grow up at a distance, and then mrs wife died and that's where everything really started to fall apart.
J.T becomes more taken by his work and leaves Whipstaff for increasingly long periods of time, leaving Casper in the care of staff (and when he's about, Stretch.)
Stretch gives J.T an out of the business, noticing how much he's been neglecting his son but J.T is like NAW I don't want to do that and doubles down, going greedy mode.
Stretch found himself stepping in at Whipstaff more and more, and began to neglect his own portion of the buisness. (Could do a separate thing for the McFadden business, it’s all shady stuff,) Initially he was reluctant to be around Casper and really hated him, feeling mixtures of anger and sadness whenever he looked at him. But eventually he came around, his values shifted and he found something that was more important to him than his career. (#family wow so inspiring) but like yeah he was basically Casper's dad because J.T was negligent.
At first Stretch found Casper difficult to deal with, as he was clingy, energetic, and had traces of separation anxiety from J.T's absence, made worse by the fact that Stretch was terrible with children (Stinkie and Fatso helped him out) It wasn't easy, but they eventually fond a good balance.
AS A GHOST I like the version of Casper that's more like, dry. I don't wanna say sassy because that sounds a bit much, but he's spirited (har-har) for sure. He's a little bit jaded, but still just a kid who wants friends. He's forgotten most stuff about his life but some details persist, like his obsession with trains or him constantly seeking approval from his uncles.
