Hi, I have a non-art question... is Japanese hard to learn? Also I heard I should start by learning sentence structure then move onto vocabulary, is that true?

Yes and no. There are some things about it that are super duper logical and predictable, which make certain grammar rules really easy to learn.

On the other hand, as a native English speaker there are a lot of things that would be considered odd to us, or very hard to translate naturally.

Having said that, I’d say you should actually prioritize acquiring as much vocabulary and learning as much kanji as you can early on. Grammar you can learn as you go, because it relies mostly on hiragana. However, I struggle reading novels or newspapers sometimes because I run across kanji/words i just simply don’t know.

How do I know how much I should charge for commissions? I'm not an amateur artist but I've never thought about getting paid for drawing until now. :thinking:

I’d say think about how much time a piece takes you, and what you think a fair price would be based on an hourly amount! Don’t go charging less than minimum wage as a BARE MINIMUM for your work (minimum wage where I live is around $15 CAD, so charge accordingly)!

Heyo! quick question, was there anything in particular you looked at/watched to improve your shading skills? obviously practice comes a lot into play with improving shading but just tryin' to see what to do to improve myself!

Look at the tutorial series “10 Minutes to Better Painting” by Marco Bucci on Youtube. It’s a fantastic series. It explains somewhat difficult to understand colour theory stuff in a really fun, succinct, and easy to understand way.
