Hello my fandom blog I almost never use! Every now and then I get super stuck thinking about Bugsnax and how much I hate the treatment of Snorpy Fizzlebean in the fandom, specifically after the bigsnax update... Not sure if it's common now as I have NOT checked on the fandom in forever but I saw it so much after the update.

If I hear "The Grumpinati is real! Snorpy was right!" in relation to the Snakolytes again I fear I will lose it. The game literally TELLS you this is not the case. "Ugggh, we are NOT the Grumpinati! That's made-up movie nonsense." Why is that so hard to grasp? Yes their actions are blamed on the Grumpinati but it's very obvious the conspiracies are NOT REAL.

In general I feel like the Fizzlebean siblings are some of the most misunderstood, misinterpreted and mistreated characters in bugsnax and it makes me really sad. This is probably just because they are my favourites and my brain has been obsessed for years now. Oh well.

I haven't been on Tumblr in ages but my post about Floofty hasn't stopped getting attention so thanks again for the support on that post it makes me so happy to see!!

I haven't thought about Bugsnax in a little while but suddenly my little tism brain decided I NEEDED to think about it and in fact NEEDED to write many more deep dives and character analysis posts... All at 11 at night. While I was trying to sleep.

This is me right now, holding back the urge to get out my laptop and write about Bugsnax for the next 3 hours.

i think something i love about bugsnax is nobody is evil. yes, cromdo is scummy, and beffica has ruined other peoples lives and her own. but they’re not evil, they’re written to be that way because of how their past has treated them and it’s their only way to cope or attempt to cause a change. nobody has entirely horrible intentions for others or themself, they’re doing what life has taken them to do. hell, even the snakolytes have good intentions? but it’s been a minute since i’ve been through the triplicate space so

but still, every character has something redeeming about them. it may be difficult to see until their side quests or even until the end of the game, but every major character has it. hell, i don’t like cromdo, but i admit he does have redeeming qualities that we just don’t see very frequently because he’s so fucked up by the time we see him. every character, fandom popular and unpopular, has flaws and faults and bad sides, but they all have a redeeming quality, even if they are the bad of the bad.

and don’t even dare come with the “wiggle is a manipulator” schtick i’ll destroy you with my bare hands (i could do a whole spiel about how wigglefunny is fine because the flaw between them was the bugsnax which was a destructive factor to EVERYONE but that’s a schtick for another time)

but, seriously. there’s no big corrupt villain character or horrible unredeemable person. the only evil in the game is the snax, and everyone else are just. people in a bad situation.

it makes the game a lot more comforting and homely to have entirely characters who are people with flaws and good parts and it makes them all very human. they don’t feel like weird cartoon fronts, they feel like people trying to get on with their life, and i like that.

wigglefunny isn’t toxic masterpost lets go

note: this is not at all me saying you have to ship wigglefunny. it’s just me saying to stop calling it toxic when it isn’t. you can see them as romantic or platonic or whatever all you want

the two reasons people call wigglefunny bad: age gap, and wiggle being manipulative, so i’m gonna unpack these separately.

the backing of the age gap problem comes from a reddit AMA where the developers said this

as it would turn out, these are not correct, for… several reasons. First of all, a line in the game suggests that Filbo and Lizbert were friends when they were kids, which would be… kinda odd if she’s ten years older than him. Secondly, Shelda being in her mid sixties doesn’t line up with her saying she’s “pushing seventy,” which would line up more with her being in her late sixties. Third of all, it was confirmed that this list isn’t actually canon at all. It was a range given to the voice actors to help them get the voices, and nothing more.

And even if it was… they’re both adults. Even if they did have a harsh age gap, they’re still adults, and I’m tired of people babying Gramble. Yes, he’s soft, and he cries and he struggles, but he’s a grown man who can make decisions for himself. But given this list isn’t correct to begin with, the argument is irrelevant overall.

Second reason is Wiggle being, supposedly, a manipulator. She’s not, and here’s why.

She never actually ate his snax, or it’s at least not explicitly stated. The only snakification we see her with before we help her is Cheepoof mohawk, and Gramble after the fight only had beach snax. If she was snakified by kweebles or razzbies, then it could be fought that she ate his snax, but she didn’t. Cheepoofs don’t show up on the beach, they’re from the desert. Wiggle got that herself. The other thing that could imply she took them is Gramble saying “whenever i fall asleep around you, my snax just up and vanish” but that can’t be pinned on Wiggle. It’s an entire point of Gramble’s quests that his snax had a spell of running away and getting away from him, so chances are, Wiggle wasn’t the one taking them. Him falling asleep was just him falling asleep and the snax getting away, whether or not Wiggle was there.

I’m not saying she doesn’t try to eat his snax- no, very clearly in Beffica’s side quests, she has made an attempt to. But she hasn’t succeeded because she was stopped by the journalist and laid off of it after that.

Not to mention, the snax are the whole problem, for both of them as individuals and as a couple. Wiggle’s issue is that she relies on snax for her creativity, akin to how celebrities in reality might turn to drug usage, and Gramble’s is that he’s desperately trying to get things that can’t love to love him. Wiggle is addicted to drugs, and Gramble is a drug hoarder. awful analogy but you know what i mean.

And that’s also the conclusion they reach after their quests. Gramble feels horrid because snax truly can’t love him back, even if they can’t hate him either, so he thinks to see the person who CAN express love back to him. Wiggle, on the other hand, has a bit more trouble at that. She spends her entire side quests looking for her magnum opus, and when she comes back, Gramble tells her that he’ll love and admire her music either way. I don’t like how dismissive she is of him after that, but, she was incredibly disappointed in herself for failing. Both of their side quests end in them knowing they can’t depend on bugsnax for their personal joy but they also realize that there will be people there who can make them feel better. Gramble says it straight up to Wiggle, then Gramble himself also says that spending time with Wiggle will make him feel better.

Their reflections during the ending also emphasize on this, both during their good and bad ending variants. During the good ending, Gramble realizes that he was trying too hard to make snax love him, and was wasting away all his feelings worrying about them. Every time Wiggle asked him out to an outing, he said no out of worry for his snax, the things that could never love him. Meanwhile, Wiggle also becomes aware that she was being rude and dismissive- a song came to her when she realized she didn’t need bugsnax to feed her muse, she just needed some support. Whether or not her true intentions for those dates were just to sneak away, she still realizes in the ending that they were horrible for her. While their relationship was strained during the main events, they both gradually realized that they could have something because the only thing stopping them was the snax.

In the bad endings, they both mourn each other too. And why would Wiggle mourn him if she was trying to manipulate him, wouldn’t the point of his death be the time to stop acting if she was acting like she loved him? But she speaks reverently of him, saying she’ll try her best to be as loving and as kind as he was, and it feels genuine like every other bad end reflection. Gramble realizes again that he was wasting his love on snax, and the sentence of “it was nice while it lasted” ties in some kind of regret that he didn’t spend more time with her because he was fussing over his snax. The two things he’d loved on Snaktooth, snax and Wiggle, were both gone, with the realization that only one of them could love him back.

One last point that can be interpreted differently, but, Wiggle says it herself in her interview that she’s not trying to manipulate Gramble, even if it would be easy. This could mean two things, being either if she was manipulating Gramble she’s not doing it on purpose, or the worse option, that she’s lying to the journalist- but that isn’t like her. And she’s still not manipulating him.

So the conclusion is that, like every other relationship in the game, they as a couple had flaws that were influenced by Bugsnax that were later healed once snax were not a problem. And I can’t speak about why their relationship became so heavily rumored about in the fandom as being toxic, as i’m a white person and it’s commonly concluded to be rooted in Wiggle being black-coded, so I’ll leave the roots of it to you guys.

Floofty from bugsnax is just... so fucking cool I love them. I like the subversion of the mad scientist trope maybe im just insane and projecting but I get u floofty.. scaring off people by giving in to being a total fucked up weirdo like just totally cray cray because that's what folks think u are so why try being anything different. Maybe even weird is good, actually.

Everything they do is to improve grumpus society, it takes a lot to love the world like that me thinks. I dunno they couldve just made this character only do things to help themselves but no... they poor acid on themselves like what did they gain from that. floofty could just do experiments on gramble when he sleeps walks and from what I remember they do not they just watch him. Or they could trick the player or something but they dont. Of course they have flaws like they are really fucking mean to snorpy for instance but what I'm getting at is that they mayhap they love grumpus kind and the world... even a Lil bit. Even If they get written off as just a fucked up deranged weirdo.

Floofty isn't evil, y'all are just mean.

I'm not sure why so many people demonise Floofty. Yes, they tend to be unethical and take extreme risks. Yes, they make dark jokes* and can be rather rude or blunt. I don't understand; this doesn't make them an EVIL or BAD person.

*(The cannibal thing is a joke. They only tried to eat part of their own leg, they still have their missing leg in their hut, and it wasn't much that they ate. Meaning; that not only would it be auto cannibalism, that it would also not be as significant as they made it seem throughout their interview.)

Their whole arc throughout the game was coming to the realisation that: YES, they need to take ethics more seriously and that not everything has a scientific purpose. They're still learning. To be more understanding and accepting of other people (Shelda specifically, as their arcs reflect one another.). Everyone had to learn something; I don't see anyone treating anyone else nearly as bad.

They also don't hate their brother? I know they are judgemental of him. However, they also ADMIT IN-GAME that they respect him and think highly of his opinion. I believe they act so high and mighty due to having to convince others of their reasoning so often. As they've said:

"I shouldn't need to put so much effort into explaining myself. But… It DOES take effort ... I cannot make myself understood… so I lose patience… and I give up on understanding. And perhaps... That is cowardice on my part."

All they want to do is further science and help others. They cannot understand why people ignore the benefits, despite the reasoning being clear to us as an audience.

As an autistic person, their behaviour screams autistic to me, it's just a headcanon but I have my reasoning. They don't understand social constructs, they struggle with making and maintaining relationships, they are very literal, they struggle to empathise with others and ignore things or to see the importance of anything that isn't their special interest (Science). They are well-meaning but don't understand how it's wrong. It explains their behaviour. They are still learning and growing.

Not to mention, they likely thought it was okay because of the government's encouragement? Playing through the isle of Bigsnax DLC/update you find out what started Snorpy's delusions with the Grumpinati from Floofty. It also explains why Floofty doesn't understand why it's not okay. They believe that anything should exist if it's beneficial, regardless of the consequences. They don't see how it would affect them, as pointed out by Shelda and Chandlo, which is why they shouldn't get to make that choice. They don't seem to understand that.

You're allowed to dislike them. Just stop treating them like a villain and misgendering them. The game makes their pronouns clear; even if you're confused, I'm sure most people have been told by now. I've seen people misgender them because they don't like them, which is just blatant transphobia.

I haven't seen it so much here on Tumblr; I've seen it elsewhere for the most part. It's incredibly frustrating to me. I can relate to Floofty, I'm sure other autistics can too. They're a really well-written character, in my opinion. I wish people weren't so horrible towards trans characters.

There’s yet again another Redbubble problem in the Bugsnax fandom. Bots are still running amuck.

There’s been multiple Redbubble bot accounts that have been been stealing a whole bunch of Bugsnax Fanartists’ works, but I personally want to state that again, there’s one that not only does it have the gore fanarts (those ones you see of Floofty) but also NSFW ones there too. So once again if you’re a minor in the fandom that got their art stolen, it’s better to not go in the account itself.

hibaart15, onlyfanarts (This one has the floofty gore art), samawiii, and lordie (THIS IS THE ONE WITH THE NSFW) are the account names. (Edit: Found one by the name of MartinKampf too)

Not only that, but they’re been getting a lot of OC art stuff from other artists too. This has extended from stealing fanart of the canon characters to even personal OC stuff and even commissions. I heard a lot of velka-art‘s stuff is on there.

File a DMCA, and attach YH’s merchandise policy onto it when you do (They forbid selling on mass-merch producing sites such as Redbubble). I’ve not heard of anything of mine getting stolen, but frankly it doesn’t make me any less uncomfortable seeing as now my friend’s OC stuff is getting botted now. In fact it’s made me even more freaked out.

If you haven’t been doing this already, please attach a signature to your artwork that cannot be cropped out as well.

But I just want to ask one important question in the wake of all of this…

What is it with the bots?????

My art isn’t in here either, despite both of us having art with more reach, views and engagement than some of the stolen art works on these accounts.

This means the bot is localized to Twitter, as with other “auto t-shirt” bots

I will let you(general you, not OP) know that a signature will not stop your art from being stolen, only make your art more identifiable in the case that it does, and make DMCAs easier to write (i.e. “You can tell this is my art because my signature is there”)

What does stop these bots is a background. Any color, any detail.

These bots are clearly looking for “transparent PNG” type images, then using redbubble’s tools to upload them. Which sucks, because Twitter’s format treats Transparent PNGs slightly better than not transparent pngs.

Use a fill bucket on your bg to lessen the chances of art theft.

Reblogging this as the BG point is something I forgot to bring up in my OG post so TY for bringing it up! Signatures only help identify the artist (if it’s identifiable ofc), but yeah, simple backgrounds or even a gradient for them can lessen the chances.
