and they obviously still fight and get on each other's last nerve, but it's better and their relationship is better because they understand each other (although benny still wonders how anyone can be so in love with her when she superglued her fucking shoelaces)

i think what would really do it would be her shoes. she struggles with tying her shoes, always has, so she usually lets the loose bows fall apart and the laces flop around. she falls a lot or trips around because of it, and that's when people start fretting over her and tying them for her, carrying her, treating her like a little princess.

and then she fucking snaps. she's not fragile, she's not five, she's no one's princess but her father's.

...so benny catches her that night supergluing her shoelaces tied and yeah that's dedication. he respects that. he's glad she's doing something to help herself, even if it's the most Serena solution he's ever seen

Meanwhile thomas just watches his son slowly suffer with all of this, with no idea what to do.

none of them expected serena's abilities to be quite like this, so they're all still trying to figure out how to handle them. it's hard for benny sometimes, but after he gets his good set of friends, it gets a lot easier.

and it helps when serena Snaps and wants to do stuff on her own and be allowed to make mistakes. that's when the two of them really start getting along better

I can’t imagine the insecurity he’s about to deal with too… just “wait! You live at Serena’s house??” “Yeah…?” “Can I come over?” Or “Hey can I spend the night tonight?” “Yeah! Sure! Let me call Thomas real quick!” “Will Serena be there?” “Oh.. uhm.. Thomas just told me it’s family night. Sorry..”

and when he ends up with a group of friends who really are his friends, he is constantly waiting for them to just fall in love with serena. and alex is one of them, just benny's friend who actually likes being around just benny and has stayed over at his house several times (after benny made sure serena wouldn't be home). so when alex joins the serena fanclub, benny assumes he's losing a friend. until alex and their other friends still want to hang out with just benny

yeah, sometimes they'll fling themselves around to help serena or fawn over her, but they're benny's friends first. and he can live with that
