{this month from June 23rd to July 1st i will be going out to Oregon for a family reunion thing! i imagine i’m probably going to be busy? i’ll have my phone and i’ll probably have my laptop too but i’ll still probably be pretty busy. i don’t actually know what to expect.}

{i’ll probably be around more on discord than anything! so if we’re mutuals and you want to stay in contact while i’m out and about, you’re welcome to ask, though i’m pretty chickenshit when it comes to actually talking to people privately}

Mm. More often than not, horrible, but I’ve had different training from most bodyguards (or training at all, as the case would be), and a more restrictive contract. Good if you have a decent employer. Not usually the case. Most people seeking bodyguards have an obvious reason to need the protection and deserve it.

My current employer, however, is a decent one.

I like your friend already!  When they wake up I wanna say hi!  And on that note I like you, too.  Even if you seem more tactful than you feel.  I might be wrong but it feels like you’re too kind to call someone a bitch when they need it most, like the brotherhood!  Or the Enclave.

Your earth sounds terrible by the way.  How’s the Enclave doing, then?  Do they get on well with the brotherhood at all or does one being better than the other mean they don’t like each other?

I’ll let zem know when they wake up. And... thank you. To be fair, I mostly just do not want to be shot.

Oh, it is. And the Enclave isn’t doing so well. We have my employer to thank for that. They were already on the verge of a civil war amongst themselves between the President and his Colonel, so I’ve heard, and now both are dead. Their main headquarters was destroyed, as well.

But no. Surprisingly not! They’re quite bitter enemies when it comes to ideology. The Brotherhood of Steel at least recognized that pre-war society wasn’t as good as it seemed for those who weren’t the powerful or the wealthy, and that it was their hubris that caused the destruction of the world. The Enclave thinks nothing was wrong at all with it.

Even if the Brotherhood is more aware, I still wouldn’t trust them as far as I can throw them. The Brotherhood is somewhat fragmented out here, as well, with the main chapter and the outcasts that have formed their own chapter that was based on the original ideals, rather than the ones meant to help the rest of the wasteland.

I have stayed away from the outcasts for my own survival. The current Brotherhood is at least willing to play nice so long as I don’t act too threatening. The Outcasts would take pleasure in killing me or worse. Considering they’re already bitter about the East Chapter being too much of a goody-two-shoes, they’d opt for worse.

So this brotherhood’s a buncha hardasses and hoarders.  I mean, I’ve heard of worse?  And in a post-apocalyptic society they sound… I mean, pretty shitty, but they sound like the lesser of at least five other evils.  Especially with things like, “super mutants” existing.

Feel free to ask. I consider myself fairly knowledgeable. And zeir name is Val. Ze’re a person who was raised in a vault-- a pre-war establishment meant to survive the nuclear apocalypse. The vaults were actually generally effective in that regard, but most vaults were also meant to be experiments.run by the now defunct government. Their Vault was Vault 101 -- no one was meant to ever enter Vault 101 after the bombs fell and the original inhabitants were sealed inside, and no one was ever meant to leave.

They broke that rule a few times but hid the evidence until recently.

But ze’re very kind and intelligent. A bit... moody, but I’ll give them a pass, all things considered. Ze’re quite skilled with computers and machinery, but they also learned how to be a medical doctor under the supervision of their father. And a decent shot. Ze generally mean well.

I might be a little biased, since ze’re my employer, but ze treat me like a person, and that’s good enough for me.

And essentially. They aren’t the worst, but as a ghoul, they aren’t exactly happy about my existence.

Not... all... super mutants are awful. There are a few who are quite good, actually. Not many, but a recent ally of ours is one who calls himself Fawkes. He’s rather well spoken, and was imprisoned for hundreds of years by his brethren for being so unusually intelligent and berated and hit for it. I... can relate to him.

But most want to kill and eat humans, so, I suppose I can understand the wariness.

Besides, the Brotherhood of Steel is better than the Enclave. Direct descendants of the government that want all mutants, including impure humans, dead. Though perhaps that was just the President. Still, I don’t trust anyone who claims that life before the war was great and wonderful, and that they can Make America Great Again.
